came into play when the airlime tickets to mco were ridiculous

when are you travelling and from where? I am coming from Toronto, Canada. Currently, for my September 2019 cruise my flight is close to 700$. It will go down but yes, MCO is a more expensive airport. Some choose to fly into Melbourne which is basically the same distance from port as MCO and then just Uber from that airport to Cocoa Beach area?

  2. I am flying into MCO a day early and staying at a hotel on Merritt Island. Some prefer to stay near the airport (most hotels include port shuttle) or near the Port (more expensive hotels) or in Cocoa Beach (which is a 45 min drive and about 25$-30$ per person for shuttle). I chose Merritt Island because it is in the middle and near a Walmart where I can grab all my last minute items include my wine. Not many shuttles will drop off to Merritt Island, so after hours of research, I have decided to Lyft (free ride for new users), and my hotel offers a $10 shuttle to port (less than 15 minute drive). To answer your question, it really depends on which hotel you chose and if they offer airport pickup/port drop off. Goportcanaveral has a huge list of sleep, cruise and fly hotels which include transfers.

    Good morning

We have sailed Carnival before, but this is our first Royal. So far I am extremely frustrated with the website and how expensive all the pre purchases are. So for all of the experienced sailors please help answer the following questions:

    1) Does Royal do prepaid Photo packages and if so when do they typically appear for purchase

    2) Can we prebuy any type of water other than the $40 Evian bottles?

    3) When will stuff like the escape room show up for us to book?

    4) What is your favorite tip specific to the Harmony or to Royal Caribbean?

    Thank you for y'alls help

Royal Loyal. The cruise planner is pretty easy to navigate, mind you I have only experience with RCL. Your water question got answered. The photopackages, I am unsure. I dont think I have ever seen prepay for photos? Most of the events will be available to book around 90 days out. Book your shows as soon as they open, planning them around port days or depending on when you chose MDR dinner. We normally book the 8pm dinner, therefore we are the 10pm shows and it works well for our family. Sometimes you are in port until 8pm. I would have to cut a port visit short because of dinner reservations. Besides, theres always somewhere to eat. Sorrentos pizza is AMAZING. RCL coffee is disgusting. I usually bring my own. I have attached the image.  Do not book aqua show the first night, as the seas are more choppy and it tends to get cancelled often (and the other options will be full). Enjoy a kummelweck from central Park. The best sandwich hands down. We did Oasis last year and loved it. This year, I am booked for my first solo on Harmony. You will love royal. They are known for the best entertainment! Also, use the kids club. My son LOVED it and did not want to leave. They even have an option where they take the kiddos to the Windjammer while you get a romantic meal alone.

Royal Caribbean's Quantum class (Quantum, Ovation, Anthem) ships offer solo cabins (code 2W for interior studio).  I believe they even have some solo BALCONY cabins (looks like code 2F), but you need to book EARLY to get those.  I'm not seeing any on the Oasis class ships.

I've stayed in a studio interior cabin on Anthem, it was fine for a single cruiser.  I spent much of my time with the rest of the group I was with but even if I wasn't with others there was MORE than enough to occupy time outside the cabin.

I am booked solo cabin OV for the Harmony. I believe Oasis classes only have 15 solo cabins.

Olive Garden!  And, here I thought it was The Keg that my friends from Up North longed for 😉

Interesting choice to be on Merritt Island rather than the usual Port Canaveral or Cocoa Beach.  I think it is someplace we forget for cruisers.  It does have all the chain restaurants in the neighborhood.  And, a Publix for you to get all you goodies for the cruise.

We actually have The Keg! (at least in Ontario). I was basing my choice of hotels off of cost but proximity to food and alcohol. I am hoping the drive to the port is not that long. They said it was only about 15/20 minute drive and the shuttle is only 10$. I got the room for around 80$. It is not the best hotel but as long as there is a bed I am good. Travelling as a solo, trying to keep costs down as much as I can. The hotels in Cocoa Beach were not in my budget and nowhere within walking distance to get alcohol so I went with the cheaper option. Hoping it works out well! I am counting down the days until unlimited breadsticks!

  6. Hello fellow solos!

I am considering an excursion in Cozumel (BarHop) but worried as a solo about how sociable it will be. Any solos ever taken this party bus and was welcomed with the other travellers. I dont want to be that sad girl drinking alone at the bar lol

  7. Deciding on my excursion for my solo trip in September. Im not a HUGE drinker (especially since this will be a solo trip). If you have done both, which would you recommend for a solo? Im leaning towards to the BarHop simply because it feels more social than trying to make friends in a pool haha

I just used them this week when we were in Roatan. I had emailed him about a month ago and set everything up. We met the driver right where they told us to and we had about a 2 minute walk to the car. We visited Manawakie Park and it was awesome to hold the sloths and monkeys. We also stopped at the chocolate store and the rum distillery. They we decided to do ziplining and the driver recommended a place he though the kids would like. We had a great day and I was so glad we decided to use Rony’s tours.

Great! Thanks so much. Now I need to decide to use Rony or book directly with the excursion place (David Johnsons)

I don't know of any hotel that would give you a combination of airport to hotel and hotel to port transportation.

If you want to stay near the airport (MCO I assume, not Melbourne), there are a whole bunch of low/mid range chains out north of the airport.  I stayed at the Hyatt Place Orlando Airport as a solo.  To me, that was a budget hotel (but I used Hyatt points for my stay).  There are a good number of chain restaurants within a couple of blocks where you can walk for a meal.  I felt safe in that area at night, walking.  The Hyatt Place offers s hotel shuttle from MCO.   Do a Google Maps search for that Hyatt Place and you'll also find all the other hotels in the neighborhood and can search for what those offer before making your choice.  There was a Sleep Inn and a few others in another section near the airport near a Waffle House on McCoy Rd - I ate my departure breakfast at WF (I MUST eat at any WF!), but I would never consider staying in that neighborhood - too much commercial traffic noise and didn't feel particularly conducive to walking around at night as a solo.

I can't comment on shuttles from Orlando to the port as I have driven to Cocoa Beach myself with a rental car.

    Thank you!

I went with EconoLodge in Port Canaveral area because it was cheap, cheap shuttle to Port and most importantly, as a Canadian, it is across the street from Olive Garden. Hah!

  10. Hello!

I decided to bite the bullet and book my first solo cruise on the Harmony OTS September, 2019. I am overwhelmed with the hotel options, as unfortunately, this port is far away from the airport. Looking for recommendations of hotels (just a bed, nothing fancy, trying to keep costs down) that offers airport pickup and port shuttle or airport pickup with recommendations for shuttle services to port?

    Thanks!

  11. There has been no problem using USD denominated gift cards at the Starbucks venues on Oasis class ships.

So weird that official twitter would say no. To save there assess? Lol guess I will take my chances and hope I can use my usd starbucks card when I return to canada lol
