Back from my cruise. Here are my observations from the Acquarius tour...
1. The meeting spot wasn't very specific, it stated the general area but there were so many people trying to find their tour meeting locations we had no idea who was with who. We asked around and one person would point over there then another over there we finally asked someone to call the tour guide. He was standing OVER THERE! He was later than the confirmation said which put a damper on things since we were waiting for so long in the heat
2. The group was ushered into a Public Bus which I found odd, you'd think they'd have their own bus/driver
3. When we arrived we were escorted to the boat where there were others already waiting, these people were from nearby hotels.
4. The snorkeling location left a lot to be desired, not many reefs with pretty fish
5. Starfish point was VERY disappointing....the water there was a light brown and so were the starfish.
6. Stingray City - lots of boats already there when we showed up. One of our guides, don't remember his name, was a little too egotistic for me, he kept saying his "girls" know his voice...blah blah blah - I finally questioned where his "girls" were because none were coming near us. This part of the tour was okay.
I can now say I've been there, done that. And probably wouldn't do it again. But hey for $50 plus tip you get free photos and a nice day trip.
Sorry to hear about your experience with Aquarius. Agree, Starfish point is like a 15 minute stop at most but they're starfish, they really don't do much. LOL
We've had fun at Stingray City at all crowd levels. I rather enjoy seeing other people's reactions to stingrays as well.
Try Smith's Beach for snorkeling, next time.

Agree with other posters here. This is FAR FAR FAR from the norm in Grand Cayman. I would suspect something else. The locals here are some of the nicest people we've come across and we've been coming here for 6+ years, two weeks at a time, been all over the island.
I once chatted up a random guy fishing and he offered to give me one of his catch!

We'll be in George Town, Grand Cayman in December 26, it's our first time there. With two kids 4 and 6, besides the turtle farm, is there anywhere else we can go or anything fun we can do?
Thank you!
Our kids 5 & 8 had a blast here: https://www.google.com/search?q=camana+bay+fountain
They played in the fountains for a good hour or so, then we walked over to the man made island beach where they played with other local kids. During the day, you'll see a lot of nannies taking the children of rich parents to Camana Bay to hang out and get lunch.
There's also Seven Mile Beach. If your kids can already swim, just bring some goggles, there's sea life just 5-10 meters from the beach. Try in front of Royal Palms, great underwater sites around that area.

Thanks for the pictures!! I feel like the prices are kind of high here... Anyone else? Is the food and drink out of this world?
Blame in on the Federal Reserve bankers for diluting the US dollar every time they print billions to bail out the banks.

Seven Mile Beach!

Do 7 Mile Beach, then do Camana Bay.
-
I would call it a day and get back on the ship before the buffet closes. :D
No way, take the bus to 7 Mile Beach. It's literally a short ride from the port. You can even see your ship from the beach.
-
It's a beach. As long as they're fine with just beach and no other activities, and less space to run around, it's fine...depending on your fellow cruisers. Nighttime is when the locals go there to party. Daytime, it's almost entirely cruise ship visitors, so YMMV depending on who else shows up.
There's plenty of space to run around in front of Royal Palms. But, the water is quite calm and not too deep. Plus, you might get lucky and see the occasional stingray swimming near the shore.
Royal Palms becomes more of a party scene at night and even then, it's an older crowd. Not your frat boys / sorority girl types.

You could look at spending the day at Royal Palms resort. You can rent cabanas or just pay a few dollars to use their facilities and private section of the beach. Check out their website.

I second the Royal Palms.
Plus, it's on 7MB, which is a gorgeous beach!

Royal Palms is a FUN PLACE for lunch, drinks and music! They have chairs, umbrellas, and cabanas for rent and a live DJ playing music all day and into the night.
-
We get free international with Tmobile ONE and it worked great, albeit only 128kbps.
-
You can tour Camana Bay, but not many shops will be open but it's a gorgeous development. You can also take a morning stroll along 7 Mile Beach. It takes about 50 minutes to walk from the Royal Palms to the Seafire.
-
We've been there on 19,000 guests days, it's not as crowded as you'd think. 7 Mile Beach is 6 miles long and not everyone is on the beach at the same time.
-
The Royal Palms is right on 7 Mile Beach which is the same beach where the cruise ships tender.
-
Calico Jacks is right next to Public Beach, which has free picnic shelters if you get there early enough to score one. Or, get an umbrella and loungers at either location if your group is small. However, you want a guaranteed cabana, especially for a larger group, spend the extra and reserve one at Royal Palms.
Royal Palms 110% Unfortunately, irresponsible tourists and locals somehow always manage to litter up the public sections of 7 Mile Beach, so we stay clear of those areas.
Plus, near the Royal Palms, you can see mansions like the one being built by a Middle East Oil Prince for his sister.

Couldn't agree more. Grand Cayman is our annual family destination for the past 6 years for this very reason!
-
It really depends on how brave your 3 year old is. The sand bar isn't too deep but they need a life jacket. The stingrays have been tamed by years of being hand fed and treated well by humans.
-
We walked from Royal Palms to the Seafire in about 50 min one way.
One of the most gorgeous beaches in the world!
-
Great...but where is the best snorkeling on GC?
Smith's Beach - lots of schools of fish
7 Mile Beach - smaller fish, but we saw stingrays twice, a group of 3 lobsters, and 1 huge 3 foot lobster where the water was about 20ft deep.

Seven Mile Beach

Search for images. We just came back from there, family of 12 with kids <10. Everyone had an AMAZING TIME!!

If you don't have Netflix, it is also available for free on YouTube. I watched it last year and verified that it's still available.
Is this the copy you found?
It's not as clear as Netflix, but still watchable.

Episode 6. World's Biggest Cruise Ship
I have a new appreciation for lobster night.
Royal Palms Update?
in Cayman Islands
Posted
Depends on when you go. We didn't go during lunch/dinner rush hours, wasn't crowded at all.
It's an island (so almost everything has to be shipped or flown in) and it's Cayman Island not some Third World island (billionaires' playground), everything is going to cost more than in the mainland US. Prices were in line with the other restaurants on the island.
For subdued, I prefer the beach area in front of Seafire Kimpton. It's much more upscale and refined crowd.
