  1. I took the photo of the beach at 8 am. The photo of the path was taken approximately at 11 am. I scouted the route early in the morning to see how it would be as far as safety for the kids. The road over the bridge was the main area of concern because there are areas without sidewalks. It was manageable.

It is approximately a 25 minute walk from the ship's docking area.

We went with the kids at about 11 am. We had three in strollers.

To save time walking in the sun, we took the free train at dockyard from the ship's docking area to the watchtower mall, then walked the rest of the route. Once you get onto Cochrane Rd. there is a dirt road on the right hand side with a mailbox at the top of the road (it looks like a long driveway). It is located on the opposite side of the apartments, on the right, right after a clearing with a large tree and a picnic table. This location is at the beginning of the apartments on the right. We took this path instead of staying on the road. This back path helped us to avoid walking on the road with the little ones and it was much nicer to walk on because it took us through a more shaded area. As you walk this route at first it is open, but it becomes more shaded & wooded further down the path as it brings you directly to the beach.

    Nicebbern,

Thank you so much for this info. and pictures! We have a mobility scooter. Are there steps to go down at the beach when you reach the end of the path?

It would be so nice to be able to take the scooter there.

    thanks,

    Judy

  2. Splinter gave you the URL for Uromed, which is the one I remember being very helpful. We used them for about 2 years until the insurance company stopped using them as a vendor. (We don't like our new company as much). So I'd definately recommend talking to Uromed.

BTW, nobody *wants* to wear a leg bag, but when it becomes inconvenient enough to find a bathroom quickly enough (ie, one or two "accidents") it becomes less an issue of *want*. :)

Sooo true! Thanks for the info.

  3. Thanks Splinter,

I guess he won't be able to use it, but it would only be used in emergency situations when we won't know where to find a bathroom-not for everyday use.

He doesn't want to use a leg bag. I'll just have to talk to him some more about it.

You are always alot of help.

  4. For your father, have you considered him using an external condom catheter during the day and/or the night? Men have the advantage of being able to use these to contain their urine, and the right brand can be easy to fit and apply and be very effective. I am a rehab nurse, and we use them with our patients all the time.

    Splinter,

Could you please recommend the "right brand" of an external catheter since you have professional experience with this problem? This would be a good idea for my husband when we are on shore as it is sometimes very difficult to find a bathroom. He also has problems with stairs so finding an accessible bathroom is not easy.

    Thanks alot.

  5. I sent mine in today. One of the reasons for more disabled cabins that I stated was that the cruiseline does not allow disabled passengers to park their mobility devices in the hall, so more disabled cabins are needed to store scooters, wheelchairs, etc. How can they say that there are too many cabins?

I also included other reasons. It only took five minutes. Send your email before Sept. 5th. It's the last day to do so!

    Let's flood them with emails!!!!

Thanks Splinter and Queenie for the heads up.

    Judy

  6. Hi everyone,

Found this webisite that lists handicapped cabin numbers for all ships. I know it's a cruise agency, but the listing of category and cabin numbers is great to know. It's the best site I've found so far.

    http://www.7xxx.asp

Just click on cruise line name> name of ship(top of page right side)> cabins(scroll to the bottom of the page)

You can then look at the deck plans and determine where the cabin is located. All this on one site!

I am not pushing this agency. I have never looked at the site before today. I found it by searching for handicapped cabin numbers. I just wanted to tell everyone about it.:)

If anyone has other sites that they use, please post them as this is an important piece of knowledge to have before choosing a cruise.

  7. Thanks Cruisy and Jana, and Bepsf-

Will look for T-shirt at the pool bar,Cruisy.:D

Don't know where they might sell them outside the ship, Jana. Is there a shop before you board the ship outside at the dock?:D

Love pea soup and coffee, Bepsf! (hard to remember how to spell your name:eek:, or pronounce it!)

  8. Can't wait to get a Dam Ships t-shirt at the bar.

    Which bar??????

    A chocolate croissant at breakfast.

    A great pizza.

A detailed walking tour of the artwork!!!

    I love HAL already!

Someone should list them all in one post, but it would take a long time.

    Please tell me lots more.:)
