  1. I cannot use the patch. It makes me halucinate. So definitely talk to your doctor about it!

I use Sea Bands for the entire cruise' date=' and bring Bonine along in case the seas really get rough. I take the Bonine the second I feel my equilibrium shift -- I get dizzy before the nausea starts. If I catch it when I feel... odd... I stay ahead of the nausea. This is different for everybody!

I need some kind of view out of a window. It can be obstructed. It can be a porthole. I just need to be able to see the horizon. Mid ship is optimal, as low down as possible.[/quote']

Did they have the patch at Woodstock? LOL

  2. But you come back with a healthier body when you do the US Navy cruise, and you don't spend any time wondering what to do next. The officers will keep you busy, plus you do not pay for the cruise, they pay you to cruise with them.

What is wrong with that? :)

    Was that in WWII?

  4. Buy the way with your shore exursion perk I believe you can only use it $50 per cabin, per port day. So I don't think you can use the whole of the value of excursion offer on any single excursion or cabana.

The OP should definately trade the Shore Exc perk for the Dining Plan. You'd get way more value from that considering your bill at an a la carte resturant could be $50 to $100 for two for a single meal.

The CAS rep gave me a $100 arcade and 50 photo pkg with my booking with the UBP. The arcade and photo pkg are pretty much useless to me and other reps said they can not swap them for anything else. I wonder if this can be done once onboard?

  5. I'm pretty sure it's anything under $12. Over $12 you have to pay the difference (here-say, I have no evidence one way or the other). 10 or 20% discount on bottles of wine. As for actual booze flavors, that varies some depending on a number of factors. Last I looked it was a good selection of most whiskey, tequila, bourbon, and the other basics. My wife wasn't real impressed with the wine list, and I'm a beer snob and I wasn't impressed with the beer selection. (Beer was the standard selection of imports and US domestic).

The only thing that stood out to me was some high end scotch at between $20-$30 per glass and that there are a few bourbons I'll try that were under the $12 cut off.

    Hope that helps.

With NCL it's any drink under $15 and for those above that they put it on your bill. I just wish they had the menus for alcohol and food more accessible and current. Rob

  6. My 6 day cruise on the NCL Epic last year got me an inside room for $460 CDN before taxes. I am sure dining and shore excursions do not cost that much more.

But look up the example I gave for a cruise this year so you know it is based on present prices. The inside cabin is $432 CDN cheaper than going solo on the same cruise. I can do a lot with $432.

The 4 night specialty dining pkg was $99 and the two NCL excursions together were $99. So everything else was about $1000.

  7. And if they did that, your cost would rise accordingly, so your theory makes no sense.

Making companies pay all they should instead of us subsidizing what they should pay like the oil companies talking our tax dollars to pay for their research and pocketing the profits instead of paying us a dividend. Makes no sense for taxpayers or consumers to pay for what companies should be.

  8. I'm looking for a nice but not crazy expensive hotel for the night before a cruise. Do any offer transportation? I've tried searching this forum but haven't found this specific question.

Which port? Port Canaveral has a company called Goportcanaveral.com which arranges a night stay at nearby hotels and has a parking area if you drive there like I am for the length of the cruise with shuttles included. If flying in they might have what they call Snooze-Cruise pkgs there may be similar pkgs for other ports.

  9. My husband and I went on a cruise last year and I got very sea-sick. I get motion sick frequently, so I prepared and brought Bonine and Dramamine. Both did not work for me during the "days at sea", I was vomiting frequently. The port days, I was mostly fine.

Despite the sickness, we really did enjoy the cruise! So we are going on another in April! ;)

This time around I would like to be able to enjoy the cruise more and be sea-sick free! I've seen a lot of reviews on the patch and Reliefband. Has anyone tried both?

(I'll definitely try whatever method I decide on beforehand and see how my body reacts prior to the cruise!)

    Thanks for your input!

I have tried the dramamine pills and though I didn't get seasick I was feeling very tired all while taking them. When in the US Navy we used the patches that we placed behind the ear which worked on the inner ear for the stabilization or equalization of what the liquid in the inner ear causes us to feel dizzy. I felt so much better with the patch and none of the tired feeling either. I have never tried the wrist device but others have and said it worked for them. The least expensive is the patch. Ask a doctor or pharmacist about it.

  10. Just checking what is available this month I came across NCL's Norwegian Breakaway sailing from New York on January 15 for a 14 day cruise.

But the price for a Solo Room is $1723 CDN.

On the other-hand the inside room which has more space is only $1291 CDN and an ocean-view room $1689 CDN!

Of-course that is without port fees and taxes.

Personally, since I enjoy cruises without being part of a group this looks good to me. Others will have different needs.

In a few weeks I am going on the NCL Epic in a Solo Studio Room. Though I got it through the Casino at sea rep. I am getting a 4 night specialty dinning pkg and 2 shore excursions for a 7 day cruise with taxes, fees, and tips included for about $1200.00 USD. This also has access to a Studio lounge expressly for the Solo cruisers with coffee, snacks, and drinks which I will make full use of with the free UDP included in my pkg which covers all drinks up to $15 each! Any other room would require double occupancy or double charge for the fare! Rob

  11. Wow the tipping thing is a def bonus! It is hard to determine on the wording if that was how I read it to be... And I don't ever like to stiff my server!! Thanks!:)

Companies love to stiff their workers and make us feel like we are throwing the workers a bone for their hard work when it's what the companies should be paying for this hard work and not make them kiss our rings to get the half of the pay that they deserve.

  12. Agreed... the only announcement was the embarkation instructions for the mustard drill.

I actually wish the other ship information was injected into the cabin..... I need to open the hallway door to hear the info and announcements clearly.

For those staying in their cabins for glacial viewing..... I think you can hear the details if you turn on the TV station. Can someone confirm? It's been 4 yrs since I did glacier bay with HAL.

Is the mustard that hard that they need a drill? LOL or are you talking about a MUSTER?

I see that some latitudes cruise specials give double points per night.

  15. Methinks the cruise lines are going the way of the airlines: as long as we choose our cruises based on lowest price rather than best value the race for the bottom will continue.

    http://www.carnivalcorp.com/phoenix.zhtml?c=140690&p=irol-newsArticle&ID=2230918

If we agree on a price it is something neither the Cruiseline nor consumer can argue about, but if the consumer pays for value and doesn't get it after paying for it guess who gets screwed? Not the cruiseline!

  16. When you are touring on your own after the cruise before you can check-in.

Specifically, I am thinking about seeing the space needle after my Alaska cruise, but my hotel will be near the airport (20-ish miles away).

I'm not sure what to do with my luggage...

Rent a vehicle from Enterprise and they will pick you up and you can keep your luggage in the vehicle till you get to the hotel. Cheaper than storage.

  17. Wow what an employer. Nice guy for sure.

My niece and her hubby are going on a "company cruise" in Feb. Its a sales promotion and the company bought out the entire Splendor I think. Then they had so many qualify that they had to book half of another ship. The kicker is that the company owner is Morman and there will be NO alcohol served on board. I wonder what they had to pay Carnival for that priveledge? I feel bad for the waiters and bartenders who certainly won't make many tips that week selling Cokes. I'll be anxious to hear how this cruise goes.

Bravo to any employer who can do this for their employees.

    Does he hire only Mormons?
