  1. We've always flown SWA to port but that doesn't look like a possibility to EWR. Thought I'd check out air2sea. What do I need to know that I might not think to ask? Seems I've read that I can book early and not pay until final payment date??? That might be a good option just incase something happens. Can I fly in a few days early? Diamond..if that makes a difference. Will we have airline and flight time options or do they just book whatever they want?  Any guidance is appreciated.

  2. Would really like to keep price under $300 / night, but also understand that may not be reasonable. Friends also have Holiday Inn points also. Maybe an option? But convenience tops most everything. SoL, central park, wall street ( most basic touristy stuff) is what we'd like to do.

  3. Please, please..I need your help. We're a couple of old country bumpkins that have lived in small, rural towns our whole lives. We've done 20+ cruises but they've all been to some part of the Caribbean and have left from either Galveston or Florida. We have a Canada- New England cruise booked from Cape Liberty on RCI Adventure and I'm overwhelmed and feel like a newby.

I've read a bunch on these boards but since I know nothing about the area I don't have a clue as to where folks are talking about. We'd really like to fly in 2-3 days early to do some sightseeing. We'd like (we think) to stay close to the port with airport/port shuttle or maybe use uber.

Another thing...I'd like to visit the statue of liberty. Are there tours that do hotel pickups? Remember, rural living here...Never even lived in a town with taxi service so the talk of trains and subways is a little scary.

Please, need very detailed help 101. How far in advance do we need to make hotel reservations? Thanks

  4. I'm sorry this happened. It must have been very frustrating and disappointing. But, I have a question. You said that CA only offered 2 seats for 4 people. Was CA not going to get them to the ship? Did they book through CA or book separately and were just on the same flight? Why would CA leave the other 2 stranded? If you 2 were the only ones booked through CA and chose to not leave the other 2 behind that might be why your refund was what it was.

The first three Voyager Class ships (Voyager, Explorer, Adventure) have balconies that are part of the superstructure of the ship. They are mainly steel on the sides and about half the front facing the sea with the top being glass. See sample photos.

Navigator and Mariner, the last two in the series have balconies built outside the superstructure and are all glass facing the sea.

Thank you..just what I wanted to know. I prefer the solid glass, but, oh well.

  6. We now have 4 cruises booked from now till next year. I'm sooo excited. I just wanted to share with someone that would understand :). Most of our friends think we're crazy. This is what we wanted to do in retirement and now getting to do it. We'll fill the gaps with camping trips. I love retirement!!

  7. I just read an article (from 2015) that said they were denied payment when their airplane experienced mechanical problems and they missed their ship. Another person in the article said they called Nationwide and the rep stated that they did NOT pay for misssing the ship due to mechanical issues. Anyone have any newer information? Seems like that would be a reason to have travel insurance.

We tend to use Royal Caribbean in the Caribbean, Alaska, etc.  Traveling overseas we use a third party for better medical and evacuation as well as covering flights, hotels, etc.

We are mid-60's.  Royal Caribbean tends to be cheaper and also includes 75% cancel for any reason. But you really need to compare coverages and see which most effectively applies to your situation.

We have the same line of thinking. Usually use 3rd party for the evac coverage. But since this cruise is in the states and Canada thought the $25,000 limit for RC may be enough????? Our hotel is refundable and airfare can be insured through the airline. I like the idea that RC insurance is refundable if we have to cancel (before final payment date), and the cancel for any reason. From the price list posted here it looks like we could get better insurance for the same or less money (which is usual). Just need to investigate air evacs some more. Used to never think about that....getting old is the pits!!!! 🙂

  9. Where on RCI's site can I find the insurance pricing? I can find the Trip Protection page, but can't find anything about costs. We generally cruise the Caribbean and get private insurance mainly for the medical evacuation coverage because we don't think $25,000 is enough. We're planning a cruise to New England/Canada and wondering if the royal Caribbean coverage would be enough?
