  1. I'm a solo traveller as well and I was so happy when NCL introduced their Studio cabins just for SoloTravellers with no surcharge.
I did that so far 4 times and it was great. There is a StudioLoungs/Living room to gather with other Solotravellers. There is hosted gathering each evening around 6pm when Dinners etc are organized. I met so many People that I still have contact with.
Try it out. NCL is not a bad cruise line, though I can't compare to Princess as I never cruised with them before
  2. There's some pop psych for you! LOL. I assume by "their relationship" the article is referring to a romantic relationship... Let's see, I guess that means people who aren't in a relationship and still complain are not satisfied with not having a relationship? I find it humorous that the source of happiness or discontent is the quality of a relationship. Thank goodness that's not true unless we allow it to be!

It' not my opinion, just said I was reading about it :)

  3. Hi all

Myself and my wife travel to Rome,as part of our Mediterranean adventure, aboard Emerald Princess in early September!!

What I'd like to know is:- how twisty and winding are the roads going by coach from Civitavecchia port and the Vatican!!

My wife has severe phobia about coaches in particular, but refuses to contemplate the train, especially as more than one ship will be present on that day and the carriages are likely to be crowded!!!

We've never been around the Vatican, and its always been on our bucket list, so I'd appreciate some information about the coach journey

    Steve n Wendy

    It's mostly Highway.

I would not recommend to go by Train, as they tend to go on strike unanounced or stop in the middle of nowhere and you get closer to departure time of you ship and don't know if you might not make it.

Book a trip with the ship excursions.

I'm usually a "on my own" in port, but in Civitavecchia I would not do it

  4. I agree. It's VACATION

    Just enjoy.

However you alwasy have those Kind of People that Needs to complain about everything.

The best Thing is: there was not enought/bad Food.

    On a cruise ship?????

I read an article once that said People that complain are not satisfied within their relationship and transfer that unhappines to something else to get "release"

  5. I do that too.

Mostely they have Food that I don't get at home or don't prepare.

Eg. for breakfast I always have "Egg benedict" when on a cruise.

I never have them at home and I hardly see them on any menu's here in Germany at the breakfast places.

Also, I'm on vacation and I want to try all the things they offer. I can Count calories again back home :D

  6. You did fine.

In that situation we would just say it was very nice meeting you and sorry we are not able to stay with you longer.

    Keith

Agree. they should have placed you on a smaller tabel to begin with as you were "only" 2 people

  7. I once found a beautiful diamond ring on deck and I took it to Guest Relations. I was concerned that they refused to give me a receipt or even take my cabin number. They said it would be put in lost property and basically it was nothing to do with me. The next day we were back on deck in the same place when I saw someone looking carefully around the deck and I realised he was looking for the ring. I asked him what he was looking for and he described the ring in detail. I told him that I had found it and had taken it to GR. He and his wife were able to retrieve her ring and were delighted. I often wonder if they would ever had got it back if I had not bumped into them on deck. They said they had been to GR a couple of times and been told that it had not been handed in.

It sometimes takes a bit till the found item is on the Lost&Found list.

The People at the Front Desk take it from you and give to the Person "behind the Scene" that is in Charge of all Lost&found. Depending on their working hours it might take a bit to have it listed

  8. Hello!

I am new to cruising, and have booked a Aft Penthouse Suite (non-haven) on the Jewel for Nov. 2016.

I am now obsessively pouring over threads to prepare myself as well as I can for what to expect, and how to not look like an obvious rookie cruiser when it's time for our trip =)

In light of that, can anyone advise if we will be subjected to any above average noise or vibrations in our cabin, particularly when the ship is docking. I have read this is an issue in Aft cabins other ships and just want to know what I should expect.

**As a side note, anyone who has cruised this itinerary on the Jewel in November, can you comment on the weather and sea conditions? Or suggest me to a thread that has that info. NO luck in finding what I'm looking for.

    Thanks again!!!

    Ashley

I had a AFT cabin once. I didn't mind the noise of the ship or the vibrations.

What bothered me was the noise of the "water". It was really loud. But I guess it depends of the People. A lot love the AFT cabins.

    The view is great !!!!

  9. I have absolutely no problem with Hamburg at all. I very much enjoyed it when we sailed from there on the Escape.

My issue is that Southampton holds absolutely no appeal to me as a port of call. I was expecting to be able to sail from there (transport cost being a train and a cheap hotel) and then have a day in Hamburg as a port of call.

What I now have to do is fly to Hamburg, probably stay for two nights so adding extra transport costs as well as hotels to go on the cruise which effectively ends with three sea days, as one of those is the day in Southampton.

It's made the cruise less attractive to us and added about £500 to the cost. Alternatively, we could just not bother getting back on the ship in Southampton, making it a 8night cruise for the price of 10.

We were originally going to also do the 7night Western Europe trip, which we already knew we couldn't do from Southampton as the dates don't work out, so it now means we have to go from Hamburg twice. To be honest, that other cruise isn't attractive enough to justify a second trip to Hamburg, so we will certainly be finding something else to do on that week.

I'd love to do the one to the North Cape, but it isn't an option due to school holidays. That's why I was so pleased with these new itineraries, as we can finally go to Norway on NCL during holidays. If they had said from the beginning that it would be from Hamburg then that would have been great, but in typical NCL fashion, they offered something and then took it away. At least this time they did it before we had booked.

you book the Cruises out of Southampton. Then you would have a day in Hamburg to enjoy

  10. ... but you Need to be Aware of you surroundings.

    I was by myself (female).

Leave your passport and credit Cards at the Hotel. Only take cash with you.

    Thats what I did.

I bought myself a spanish newspaper so I pretended to a local. (eventhoug I don't really speak spanish :D )

I only had my digi cam with me. left the big camera at the Hotel as well.

when on the Ramblas you have to go that market. (if Walking the Ramblas down it's on the right Hand side)

  11. I just came off a wonderful cruise on the Getaway on Feb 7. First I want to make clear I am a frequent NCL cruiser and NCL has been our preferred cruiseline over the years.

The freestyle suits us very much as it allows both the formal types and casuals to mingle rather well. I am 100% the casual type. However I was rather surprised and disappointed to see that shorts were allowed in ALL MDRs including the Tropicana which is the "formal" dining room for the Getaway. As we all know NCL allows shorts to all other complimentary dining rooms except for the one "Formal" one. And I do wear shorts occasionally (like on embarkation day) for dinner and I gladly go to the other dining room that allows shorts anytime.

I brought this up to the Assistant Hotel Director (Rohinto-great guy by the way) and I was told that it was on a trial basis for Getaway only. I told him I'd rather see that they keep at least the one dining room shorts free.

And sure enough there were people with shorts and flip flops all week in the Tropicana. I for one hope that NCL does NOT implement this fleetwise.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks

I'm with you. At leaset one of MDR's should have some "restrictions" in regards to clothes

If I want to Dine "lazy" I go to the Garden Cafe.
