  1. Adblock Plus is invaluable, and free.

Adblock Plus is good, but uBlock Origin is better especially with site that use Adblock blockers. I didn't even realized cruise critic form had Ads until I looked at it on someone else computer. uBlock Origin uses community based list so when FB or Media sites uses some new Adblock detector it can usually get around it within hours.

  2. I think this is going to cause a mess at the ports with a huge influx of FTTF tags that aren't valid.

I suspect this will be a minor thing I bet most the few who get it will not even be aware of it. I'd bet good money it will be fixed by the end of the day(it wasn't as of 5 mins ago). The biggest problem will be the rash of people printing a cruise in the next week or so. Those of us with a cruise a month or more out, I suspect only a handful will be lucky to get it.

Yes I saved mine, and I will try to use it. We have the next to earliest check in time(11:30) already, so other than the using the priority security line, there isn't much advantage. It almost certainly will not get you in to your rooms any faster.

  3. Our Cruise isn't until late January, but I did our check early and printed our boarding passes a month ago. I read today they they are using the passes across the fleet so I went to reprint them. As others have suggested, both our boarding passes and luggage tags now show FTTF. Needless to say I saved the documents. I've been trying to snag FTTF ever since we booked but it has never opened up.

  4. I going to predict something totally different. I'm going to say there will be a new port in the next few years. Here in Texas there has been a lot of talk from local/state officials and even some agreement at federal level about funding to build a terminal to attract cruise lines to Corpus Christi.

Within the last 15 years cruise traffic in Galveston has grown tremendously with 2018 & 2019 already scheduled even bigger. Galveston already has two Terminals and there is talk about building a third. You could say Galveston is bursting from the seams. I could see Corpus Christi becoming home to one of the Fantasy class ships sometime after 2020.

  5. It will probably be a while before Carnival Cruise Line has them. An article on the 7'th says that Princess Cruises has delayed the roll-out to "refine and enhance the functionality". I took this to mean "It ain't working right!"

Personally, I do have security concerns about the Medallion since they claim to be "NFC complaint". If they work like the new Hilton NFC hotel keys, they are worthless as far as security. They simply have an NFC tag in them that any phone with an NFC Wallet can clone.

  6. We used them a lot on every cruise as as long as you not in one of the lower cabins they worked for the most part. However, that changed on our last cruise in May. While I had expected to use the radios, we the ended up using the hub app and it worked much better than I expected. In fact, I would go as far as saying nobody used FRS radios on the ship.

Someone mentioned about the legality of using them in port. Keep in mind just because you in international waters doesn't mean your legal. Sure you can get away with it, but legally you are required to follow rules of the country of register while in international waters. For most of Carnival's ships this is Panama. The exceptions are The Carnival Legend and Spirit are registered in Malta while the Triumph, Sunshine, Interspersion, Imagination, Fascination , and Sensation are registered in the Bahamas.

  7. I think the reason the killed it is rather obvious . Multiple price tracking sites used automation robots to pull pricing info. They day the tool quit working is when I noticed some of sites started having less up to date data for carnival's pricing. Apparently even adding Captcha couldn't stop the robots.

  8. I was discussing this in a PM with some friends a few weeks ago. Vista has a Reflection & Horizon MDR. Horizon has a Reflection & Meridian MDR. By that logic, Vista 3 *should* be called Meridian. And Reflection *should* be the first of the LNG-powered ships. And, it's quite possible that whatever is the name of the aft MDR on Vista 3 could be the name of the second LNG-powered ship (I'm assuming the mid-ship MDR on Vista 3 will be called Reflection, the same as on Vista & Horizon). I guess time will tell!

Wow, honestly I has no idea that was the name of the MDR's on ether of the ships. I was just going off of trademark search. I think that make it even more likely for vista 3. That said the LNG will be a totally different class so it same will not be similar to vista class. There is another vista class ship being built for one of the other carnival brands that still could be transfer to become vista 4, but that probably will not happen.

Each ship name follow a theme relative to that class For example

Fantasy Class - are all names enjoyable emotional states

Destiny/Triumph - are name of positive endings(destiny became Sunshine so it doesn't count)

Spirit - are positive names given to things that are outstanding or unusual

Conquest - are positive things associated with successful conflict or war

Dream - are names of things that can't be seen in the real world

Vista - are name landscapes usually described as being nice or beautiful

Splinter is the one exception since it was Concordia class ship oregioanly ment for Costa Cruise lines

  9. I have a little trick that seem to work well. First, when they take the picture that is displayed anytime they swipe the sail & sign I usually make a very funny face. Then when someone new swipes my card on the ship for first the firm time will typically break out laughing when they see it. The goal here is to be remembered. I then find a bar, maybe two that is most convenient for me and get almost all my refills there. Every time I ask for a soda ill drink right there quickly and ask for a refill almost immediately after about the 4'th or 5'th visit I've have found that they will give me the can(but not always) especially if they are really busy.I will say they still pour it the first half of it in the glass though. It also help to be friendly to the workers, use their name when you talk to them and get to know them. Remember the crew are doing jobs that are very monotonous so just talking to them and being friendly can really brighten their day.

  10. I've been thinking about this and it will still be a long time before I can take advantage of this, but the one time you could benefit from being a single cruiser it during one of the milestone cruises.

Since get you 25, 50 or 75% and so on back in on-ship credit on "the price of your booking" during a milestone that the one time I'd pay for the Captains suite as a single person and then stuff the rest of the family(wife and kids) in dirt cheap interior. Then my wife would just move cabins suite once on board. I've read the rules and I haven't seen anything that would prevent this.

  11. I highly doubt it would even be noticed if you didn't change it. On my wife's second cruise she was given a blue card and we couldn't figure out why they couldn't find her previous cruise. Turns out on the first cruise her birthday was off by one day so it never matched up. It took a while but they were able to fix it at guess services desk.

  12. Belize hands down is the best! I always book directly with Sea Sports Belize when I am down there and I wouldn't dive with anyone else in Belize. The only exception would be a live aboard trip(but that wouldn't involve a cruise so I don't think that counts).

This past May I was on the Carnival Ecstasy and in Nassau I booked with Stewart's Cove. I've wanted to dive with them for a while, they are the operator who partners with The Discovery Channel for shark week. In Freeport I booked a Carnival Excursion they partnered with outfit called UNEXSO. Over the two days we saw about 20-30 sharks between the two ports. I highly recommend both. My only compliant was it was storming the day we were in Nassau so the light level was terrible for recording video(as you can see bellow) .

Apparently I was the only diver on the Ecstasy for this trip.

I've also dove Cozumel and while it was good and a fun after diving Belize the day before was a tough act to follow. Perhaps has we dove it first, I would have a different opinion.

Here are two videos from the trip in May

    - This is the dive at Shark Junction in Freeport

    - This is the Sea Trader and Ray of Hope at In Nassau

I'm going to be on the Carnival Freedom in January and I'm finely going to dive Cayman. This will be my third time on that itinerary, but the first time I've actually dove there. I'm scheduled to dive the USS Kittiwake and I'm really looking forward to it.

  13. I'm not saying this isn't true, it just seems fishy to me. When I first saw this was shocked not to see this reported anywhere else especially seeing the inspection was 3 days ago(according to the article). This is news that would travel like fire in the media with headlines like "are you really safe" or "we need more regulation on cruise ships" and it would be the lowest the Triumph has ever gotten.

Will have to wait in see what the official report says. The Triumph last inspection was on 6/29 with a score of 93.

The lowest score it was 88 and that was in 2009 so the article is correct about that.

Edited for bad link: You can lookup every score Carnival Triumph has received from the CDC going back to 1999 - https://wwwn.cdc.gov/inspectionquerytool/InspectionSearch.aspx

  14. If this is going to be deemed the Solaris class, the next three names are:

    Carnival Solaris

    Carnival Aurora

    Carnival Cosmos

Hmm, looks like I am not the only one who had data mined the various trademark applications. I think you are very close. I believe at lease two of these will be used on the new CNG class ships, but instead of Cosmos(I thought that as well a few years ago) I now have have it as Galaxy on my list.

As for Vista III, based on what I've seen I think it will most likely be the Carnival Reflection but Carnival Mirage is also a less likely possibility.

Here is a hint they will have the trademark application in long(in most cases years) before the announcement is made often in a pending state. Its just the owner of the trademark will not be changed reflect Carnival until the public announcement and that makes it hard to find especially if its pending, but it can be done!

All that said, Carnival can still call it whatever they what. While its fun to made what I think is an educated guess, it is still totally meaningless.

Lets not forget this post were I did correctly predict Horizon before it was publicly known. Although the rest of the list has changed since then.

  15. If its a really big game.... They've been known to show on outside (MUTS) screen.

Last year they showed the NCAA semi-final basketball games on the big screen...Was alot of fun

When we were on the Magic, they had several of the Sunday NFL afternoon games on the big screen. I actually enjoyed watching the Cowboys game on it

Same on the Conquest in 09 they had the New Orleans Saints game on when they went 12-0. I only remember that key detail because there was a lady who as drunk as drunk could be, waiting for an elevator after game was over singing over and over "12 and 0" in place of "Let it snow". It was embarrassing . Even thought there was a crowd waiting she ended up on an elevator by herself.

I will say both were on embarkation day(in Galveston) so it might be different at sea or in port.

I'm going to be on the Freedom during the AFC and NFC championship games this year. It will be a day we are at sea. So I'll be curious if they show them.

  16. I can see how someone might think this only looking at the schedule on the hub app. Our last cruise was the first time I've had a chance to use the hub app. One of the things I noticed is our schedule only showed one of the show. I'm guessing it depends on what dinning option you booked. I curious to hear what someone with anytime dinning people see, I'm guessing both.

  17. One of things I would would be a huge win for both passengers and Carnival would be complementary social media access. You can't get better advertising than your have most loyal customers posting about all the fun they are having. I know the limiting factor with this would be all the additional bandwidth.

They other idea I suggested would be complementary access to the hub chat application. I can't think of a technical reason why you would be limited from doing this on this as all the resources that drive this are on board the ship.

  18. Depends on the cruise. I think the first day is a great day to hit the hot tubs or on ships have the Italian restaurant I'll take advantage of the free lunch before everyone else finds out about later in the week. If I have FFT I'll go to the cabin and change before I hit the hot tub, otherwise. I'll have on a bathing suit when I get on board and just carry on plastic sack with a quick change afterwords and by then the room is usually ready. Everything else is checked with my luggage.
