Two interesting quotes there
None of your descriptions were around just two years ago. However, the pace of change from formal to informal, is so fast that the natural conclusion is completely casual. Which is something I believe worth commenting on
If you had read my other posts on this thread, you would have seen that clothing is not a main concern of mine, just an observation - so, while you feel the need to recommend I abandon my Diamond status and move to Windstar, I could also make alternative vacation recommendations to you, but I would not be so rude
We understand your point, you made it loud and clear. You wish people would dress up. The cruise line has made it a suggestion, not a requirement and given people the right to choose how they spend their cruise. Another suggestion, you might enjoy your cruise more if you stopped worrying about how other people spend their vacation and just focus on yours.

You missed smoking on the balcony.;p
They need to make sure they go eat at the midnight buffet while they are at it.

I love these once a month threads.

I just gotta figure out how to get a settlement of them installing a Flowrider in my backyard.
Maybe we should contact that guy and make it a class action.
You get a flowrider and you get a flowrider.
-
Wow, a 7 month old, 100+ post thread on the Flowrider and this is my first post on it. At this rate I'm going to have my Flowrider junkie card revoked.
The Flowrider I go to in Albuquerque has about 20 feet between the rail and the back wall. There's no way anyone is ever hitting that. The back wall injuries I have seen have been little kids doing Boogie Board and not jumping in over the rail, and the water slamming them into the back wall.
The only way to prevent that is to just do away with Boogie Board...;p
I recently got my big toenail completely back from a failed Shuvit on Oasis last October. I wonder how much I can get from RCL for that 8 months of pain and suffering ?
I broke a bone in my foot riding on the Liberty last September while practicing shuv-it's. That's gotta be worth millions.

Really??? Give me a break
Agree. The complete inaccuracy of that statement is astounding. I've never seen in any of my cruises anything but the staff being completely safety conscious. I spend half my cruise at the flowrider.

How about reading the waiver and its terms before blindly clicking on the "accept" button? How many years does one have to live before getting a sense of activities that could possibly have a risk of injury associated with them?
I rode my bike to the beach yesterday. There was not one notice anywhere that I might get killed on the bike. There was not one sign at the beach that that I could get injured by surf, bit by sea creatures, burnt by the sun, or drown in the ocean. Somehow I knew all of those risks, I think it is called common sense, and continued with the activities.
Very well said. Common sense unfortunately isn't all that common. Royal Caribbean gives plenty of notice about the dangers on the flowrider, even to the point they barely let us do anything on it anymore because they are wanting to mitigate any remote chance of injury. Sadly because of people like a few from this thread. A lot of us, have to have a very watered down experience. If you can't use yours eyes and your brain and make an informed decision for yourself, then I have zero sympathy.

Only if you are booking a NRD. Even with a full deposit booked as a refundable deposit people will still move them around.
But the higher amount of money due should reduce the amount of cabins booked this way.

Given the choice I would do Harmony every time but that said, we sailed Liberty 3 times and she's a great ship.
-
I believe Liberty was just upgraded to the faster O3b service.
Do you know when? When we were on in April it was still pretty bad?

I typically wear dress jeans, dress shoes and a nice button down shirt. As bob said dress code is not enforced, wear what he feels comfortable in.

Jewel of the Seas was the worst cruise I ever took. Food was subpar, service was substandard.
Would I go on the Jewel of the Seas again, definitely. Why? Because each cruise is unique. I've been on enough cruises to know that.
This was my first Royal Caribbean cruise and it failed miserably. If my view was narrower, I would never have gone back to Royal Caribbean. But I have, I'm leaving on the Grandeur in 2 days. I have another one on the Navigator next year. Even though Royal Caribbean has the dishonor as "worst cruise experience ever", Royal Caribbean also (as of 2014) holds the honor of "best cruise experience ever" (Grandeur).
These reviews are usually about things that will change. Food, depends on supply. Sometimes, they get subpar food. Service. Crews change out frequently. Ship. Ships get upgraded. Passenger base. They change every cruise. Entertainment, they change fairly frequently. So if you take a static bad review, look for the things that may/could change, and you'll realize that those negative reviews are based on factors that may not come to light for you. Also, people who write negative reviews, usually embellish to make it seem way worse than it really is. Even the dreaded poop cruise on Carnival, was over-hyped and many passengers stated that.
To expound on this, even a day on a bad cruise is infinitely better than a day at work.

No liquor. Two 750 ml bottles of wine per stateroom. Corkage fees apply for wine consumed in public venue.
They got rid of that awhile ago.
-
I just periscoped it. I think it worked pretty well.
That's how big the vision class ships look from an Oasis class :evilsmile:

Unless you are a heavy drinker, which is doesn't look like you guys are, you will not get your money out of the drink package. At best you will break even. Now if you want to just have peace of mind that your bill won't be higher than the price of the package, I have heard some people book for that reason. Personally I just pay as I go.

^ that would be a long wait - no dry dock for quite some time. Turn around day is more likely.
Not dry dock, I meant when it docked back in Galveston for normal Sunday between cruises.
-
Anyone liberty right now, who knows if they fixed the flowrider? One of the pumps broke last week and they were supposed to install a new one during dock.
-
I love how people are never happy. Oh wait you said Royal Caribbean not cruise critic :)
-
Just a suggestion but don't ask whether you are allowed to wear shorts for dinner.
-
This is all really helpful, thank you. My DH is breathing a sigh of relief (& so am I since I decided we should give another cruise line a go!) [emoji2]

Tell him to breathe easy. I wear dressy jeans with a button down shirt almost every night for dinner, even formal nights.Something similar to this and I have never had an issue.
But jeans with a polo would be completely acceptable and you guys wouldn't feel out of place at all.

When we boarded the Harmony in Fort Lauderdale in November, boarding was a breeze. Once they started boarding, we were on the ship in about 20 minutes. And we are not diamond or anything. Still one cruise to get out of gold still. Sucks to hear that it took forever on allure. We will be on her next April.

Having sailed both Carnival and Royal multiple times, here are my thoughts:
Positives for Carnival:
Food is better on Carnival
Specialty restaurants are better on Carnival
Comedy clubs are way better on Carnival
Spa area is way way way better on the dream class ships
Positives for Royal:
Layout of ships are better on Royal
Carnival doesn't have anything remotely like the Royal promenade
Oasis class ships are almost twice the size of the Dream class ships and actually feel less crowded even though they have more people
Royal has way better production shows than Carnival and it's not even close
And the biggest reason we sail Royal is that they have the flowrider

We're just off Oasis last week and saw it all in both the specialty restaurants and MDR. I was a little paranoid about this before going as well, but DH and my dad both fit in fine in jeans and polos in both the specialty restaurants and the MDR. We did not go to the MDR on formal nights, however. As for shoes, DH wore plain black Vans and my dad wore Sperries. I wore Toms one night and it was fine. I doubt anyone even noticed, I sure wasn't looking at people's feet.
In the MDR, we saw men and women in tank tops, graphic T's, jean shorts. A woman in short jean shorts and spaghetti strap tank top. At Chops, we saw a table of people in suits and dresses next to a family in jeans/khaki shorts and polos/t-shirts. If I hadn't been aware of the clothing debate from these boards, I would have never noticed it.
Because the clothing debate on the boards in completely asinine. Glad you guys had a great cruise. We leave for ours in 4 days.

We use a card for the travel points and because I try to spend as little of my vacation as possible standing in line at customer service.
