  1. My kids loved their cruise on the Ruby Princess at that age. We had a lot of sea days and they became good friends with the kids onboard in the teen/tween club. They also loved the regular ship activities - my daughter went to every ballroom dance class during the cruise and she loved it so much that she now takes a ballroom dance class each week at home. My son loved all the trivia challenges and the random fun events (i.e., he was chosen to be a judge for the egg drop contest). We didn't spend much time at the pool because we were in Alaska. We're going on the Sun Princess this summer and they can't wait.
  2. Yes, just head to guest services when you board and explain the situation. It took 5 minutes to get it set up. We had the same set up on a cruise in the summer of 2022 and it worked really well. It was really convenient once it was set up - I could pop into their room anytime (and we also gave them access to our room so they could find us). We're planning to do it again this coming summer.
  3. For Icy Straight Point, we went out with Glacier Wind and saw SO MANY whales. It was great. For Juneau, we were supposed to take a helicopter glacier experience and it was cancelled at the last minute. Our backup as Mendenhall Glacier and a tour of a mine. I loved the Glacier. I wasn't a huge fan of the mine, but my kids and my Dad (engineer) enjoyed it. For Ketchikan, we took a Princess tour that involved riding UTVs to a large waterfall and then went to George Inlet Lodge for lunch via boat (with someone pointing out animals and providing history). This was great for a multi-generational group. We also had time to walk around town before the excursion.
  4. We went to Prince Rupert last year. It was a surprise highlight. The port is fantastic. We did the canning tour mentioned earlier and it was fantastic (both my parents and my kids thought it was one of the best things we did on the cruise). There was also a nice museum and a small, but beautiful garden, in town close to the port that we visited. The shops right by the port were also really nice. I got a beautiful necklace and bracelet at the local artist shop there. Oh, and we also went to Tim Hortons and got some good coffee. We were the only ship in port that day and the town was thrilled to have us.
  5. We went on an Alaskan cruise this last July with our 9 (almost 10), 12 and 14 year old. They all had a great time. The kid's club was fantastic for our youngest. Lots of activities, attention and kids. Our two oldest didn't really enjoy the club this cruise, but they found plenty to do. My 12 year old and her father attended every single ballroom dance session and fell in love - so much so that she is now taking ballroom lessons at home. We also attended almost every line dancing class, game show and trivia. The staff was amazing. There isn't a lot of diversity in the kid's food options, but my youngest was content with the offerings and my two older kids explored lots of new food options. They also loved being able to order room service via the television (plus all the fun non-alcoholic drinks - we had Princess Plus). Note that the cabins are smaller on Princess than on Disney so we ended up booking an inside room across from our balcony room and my two older kids slept in there. My husband and I had access to their room. In the end, we preferred this setup as it would have been super crowded if all 5 of us were in one room.
  6. We went on a cruise last month with our extended family (three 70 year olds, three 40 year olds and a 9, 12 and 14 year old). In Juneau (after our helicopter excursion was cancelled on the morning we docked), we booked a last minute excursion on the dock to Mendenhall Glacier (via the blue bus) and Gold Panning. It ended up being a great day. In Ketchikan, we walked around Creek Street and then went out on an UTV excursion (booked through Princess). This was fabulous and enjoyed by all ages. It got all of us out into the rainforest. We ended up stopping at a lake and skipping rocks for a long period of time. I would highly recommend.
  7. We got back from an Alaska cruise last month with our 3 kids (a bit older - 9, 12 and 14). For Juneau, I think you would be fine taking a bus to the Mendenhall Glacier and walking/hiking to Nugget Falls. It's paved so you could use a stroller for the hike and there are facilities available if you need to take care of the little guy before or after the hike. We saw lots of strollers and babies.
