  1. You do not have to wait until on board to reserve the major shows. I am not sure how close to your sailing they will allow but I was able to schedule shows several weeks ago for Allure leaving Dec 4.
  2. From what I understand it is $7.95 service fee. You can order however much you want at one time for the one fee.
  3. Could you tell me which blogs these are? I love to read cruise blogs and cant seem to find many.
  4. Have you been on the Allure since it arrived in Galveston?
  5. If anyone is currently on Allure can you please tell me if they have made the wipe out cafe a El loco fresh? That is what I am seeing on my Royal Caribbean app for the current sailing. (states wipe out cafe featuring el loco fresh)
  6. Also, as Texas has strange liquor laws, does anyone know if you can get the margaritas in Sabor during lunch on embarkation day? We have the UDP and that was the original plan but not sure its possible.
  7. I am also wondering if you can use your udp for Jonny Rockets upcharge on certain breakfast items.
  8. I have booked the comedy and Mama Mia (we love abba). Have not booked the other shows as they don't appeal to us. I am hoping I picked good times related to other music available on the ship. See you onboard.
  9. If anyone is planning on doing a live review on Allure out of Galveston I would really appreciate seeing the daily entertainment info including music. I will be sailing out of Galveston on Dec 4 and this info would be extremely helpful in planning my reservations for dinners and entertainment as I have the UDP and cannot book until I get onboard. Any info would be great.
  10. You can always ask guest services if they can have someone access the hdmi port. We have not done so on Viking but did on Regent. Interestingly Regent has the tvs mounted in a way that they lift off from a bar and the hdmi is on the back. It would have been easy to do on our own if we had known before hand. They were Samsung so we brought our Samsung remote from home and a tiny dvd player- Worked great
  11. Glad to hear about the bbq, that sounds nice. As far as the salmon, everyone that has responded has mentioned that you can get salmon but I was wondering if they ever served alaskan wild salmon- there is a big difference. Also, can anyone who has been on this cruise remember what types of dishes they offered on the regional menu in the dining room?
  12. We have booked an Alaskan Orion cruise for 2023 to celebrate our 20th Anniversary. This will be our first Viking cruise, but we have sailed Regent, Crystal, Seabourn, Celebrity, Royal Caribbean, Princess, and Carnival. One of the main draws for this ship was the great reviews about service and food. Now I have been reading some concerning info on the boards about the food such as no crab or alaskan salmon on the destination menus, only halibut as well as no king crab or good shrimp anymore at the world cafe, and no more whole grilled lobster in the dining room. These are some of the things we were really looking forward to. If anyone has been on the Orion recently I would love to hear your input on the menus in the restaurant as well as current selection at the world market. Also if anyone has the menus it would be great if they could post. I have seen a couple of posts about a seafood buffet for lunch one day on some itineraries, has this happened on Orion and if so which day?
  13. Why do you care??? If it doesn't affect you why are you chiming in. I have done a med cruise on Celebrity where my DH and I got off one day early in Naples instead of the Rome stop because we wanted to stay in the Amalfi coastal area and it was much closer to do that. When we retire I think we will be doing it more often. So, it does matter to some of us that are enjoying cruises as well as land travel. I certainly hope that they continue the practice at some point.
  14. I am very glad to hear about all the positive experiences. I can now book without fear. Thank you all very much.
  15. Thank you for all the replies, keep them coming. I want to clarify that I am asking for comments on Regent not on Alaska. I have been on Regent and loved it but I am concerned due to recent reviews. I have been to Alaska many times and love it, there is so much to see and do for me (I love wildlife and nature).
  16. I have travelled on Regent in April of 2022 on Splendor. We thought that it was really great and out of Seabourn, Crystal, and Regent, we thought Regent was the best luxury experience. We are considering taking a Alaska cruise with Regent in 2023 but I am very concerned after reading recent reviews on CC. I would appreciate any constructive comments good or bad regarding the current Regent product from cruisers that have sailed in the last couple of months. We are mostly concerned with service and food quality. Thanks
  17. If someone on these boards can tell you what brand of tv it is then you can buy a cheap remote control and small travel dvd player along with a hdmi cable (thats what I do). We also watch dvds on lazy sea days and I refuse to pay for the on demand movies.
  18. If you want to feel safe then I suggest booking excursions with the cruise line. I wouldn't worry about either of these ports. I think that most ports are fairly safe but I have traveled to many places around the world and many of these would feel unsafe to some people. But on that note, I have never had anything happen to me or anything stolen from me. You just need to be aware of your surroundings, etc.
  19. If you read my question, you will see that I have looked at the app and that is the problem. The app is showing the same menu for lunch and dinner on my cruise. Thanks for attempting to help me but I would like some insight who has been on the ship recently or has the menus from their cruise.
  20. We have the UDP for an upcoming trip on Allure. I know we can go to the specialty dining venues for lunch (Sabor, Chops, Giovannis, Izumi I think). The Royal app shows the same menu for lunch and dinner and I know this is not the case unless things have drastically changed. Does anyone have the lunch menus for these restaurants? Also on a different note, I don't see Samba on the app for dinner, does anyone know why?
  21. I was just wondering if Regent does anything special on Easter to celebrate. Any info appreciated.
  22. I have read in several places that the tv entertainment system only runs movies, etc on a loop and not on demand. Hard to believe. Is this still true? We sailed Crystal last cruise and found on our 14 day cruise that we really ran out of anything interesting to watch as many of the on demand movies and shows were not our cup of tea. We are on a transatlantic on Regent in a PS so will be spending quite a lot of time in our room relaxing and would like to bring a dvd player. Has anyone else been able to have a dvd player hooked up in their room. Any suggestions would be useful.
