1. When we were in Barcelona last month the Epic was docked at Terminal B. Yes you can walk from the Columbus statue to the terminal, we saw a few people doing it, but I agree with one of the other posters, the walk over the bridge may be an issue. It's quite an uphill climb and I wouldn't want to do it dragging luggage.

  2. The last form we used asked if you wanted it sent to the stateroom or as an e-mail. You could pick either.

There wasn't a choice when we were on the Regal Princess last month but did receive them via email the following day after submitting the form.

  3. My DW and I stayed at the NH Barcelona Centro pre-cruise at the beginning of October. It's on a quiet little street in the Gothic Quarter less than 5 minutes from Las Rambla and just a few minutes more to the Placa Catalunya. Staff was friendly, spoke English and the room we had was clean and comfortable.

  4. There is a tour being offered at Costa Maya which involves a segway. I have never ridden one. I know how to ride a bike & roller skate. I'm not extremely active, but have no handicaps. How easy are these things to ride?

We've driven Segways a number of times, just not the one in Costa Maya. They're very easy to control, just a matter of leaning in the the direction you want to go. The company running the excursion should go over how to control it and have you demonstrate that you can before going on with the tour. Have fun.

  5. Has anybody encountered problems using an ATM card with a magnetic strip rather than and embedded chip? I found some ATMs in Vancouver that wouldn't accept my card due to lack of a chip. There was no "reader" for the magnetic strip.

Didn't encounter any problems using ATMs in Montreal, Spain, Italy, Turkey and Greece with my magnetic strip debit card.

  6. I am putting the phone # of the tour company and hotels that I will be staying in while in Italy and they have a +39 in all of them at the beginning. Does the plus mean I have to put a 1 first and then the rest of the number or just dial the 39 and the number. Thanks for any help. Linda

Assuming you'll be calling from a US number then you would put 011 at the beginning. For example, 011 39 then the rest of the number.

  7. I prepaid for internet on forthcoming Ruby (08 Sep) a couple of days ago. Received email receipt but it is not yet appearing on my "travel summary" docs under special services which is where I would have expected it to be detailed.... Should I give it a couple more days or not worry about it and just show the receipt on board to activate ?

    Thanks for any advice

I prepaid for internet back in May for our cruise in Oct. It doesn't show in my cruise personalizer either but I have a copy of the special services order summary email I'll take with me just in case. I don't think it's anything to worry about.

  8. Normally' date=' you should be able to click on the screen name of any poster and then bring up a list of their past posts. Currently, you can't. If they have an avatar, you can click on that. The search function (up on the menu) is a bit more complicated to use.[/quote']

Yes, I know, but since that function isn't working I used the search box at the top. FWIW, I didn't find the top search box any more complicated to use than any other.

  9. We will embark on the Star 2/7/15-we will be coming early & will rent a car at the Airport (Oakland) for several days & want to return it close to Port. Drop 2 of the group off with luggage then return the car. We took a cruise in 06 from SF & returned Car on Fisherman's Wharf-500 Beach. With the new Cruise terminal-is there a better location to return the car-Avis has one on Fisherman's Wharf-Beach st or another location is 5 Embacadero Center? From what I read on the Post about the new Cruise terminal - it is by At&T Park. So which is closer-we would cab it as opposed to walking, anyway unless one would be next door. Guess I coudl have google Mapped the new cruise terminal-not sure of the address. Thanks!

Pier 27, the new cruise terminal isn't anywhere near AT&T Park. If you're planning to take a cab anyway after dropping off the rental, might as well drop the rental off at 5 Embarcadero Center, which is actually the Hyatt Regency hotel. Which means there should be plenty of cabs waiting there for you. If you decide to walk instead it's just about a mile to pier 27 from the Hyatt Regency. I don't know if Avis has a shuttle from either location you mention that would take you to the cruise terminal. I've never seen one from 5 Embarcadero Center during the times I've walked by there to visit my DW, who works at 4 Embarcadero Center.

  10. I think your understanding is not correct. Most, if not all, of the Spice Bazaar (also known as the Egyptian Market) is closed on Sundays as is the Grand (Covered Bazaar). That being said, much of the Spice Bazaar is simply independent stalls located outdoors (although they do have overhang protection in many stalls). So it is possible that some stalls would decide to open on Sundays, but they would be few and far between.

We spent some time yesterday advising DD on her upcoming 10 day trip to Turkey. We emphasized that one needs to plan based on various day of the week closing. In Istanbul, you need to plan on doing (or visiting) shops on any day but Sunday (although some places do close on Saturday afternoons). But there is a lot open on Sunday (such as Topkapi). Here is a link (a bit outdated) of Sunday openings and closings:

    http://www.istanbultrails.com/2008/06/overview-of-closing-days-and-opening-hours-in-istanbul/

Not sure if there are any changes to this list.

Apparently, the schedule may have changed since you were last there. The above post from 24butterfly seems to suggest the Mısır Çarşısı (Egyptian Bazaar) is open on Sundays. Also, I found the website for the Egyptian Bazaar Tradesmen Social Assistance and Protection Association and that site says the Egyptian Bazaar is open daily from 08:00 to 19:30. Closed on October 29th and the full duration of religious holidays.

  11. Thanks for the info guys. I could not for the life of me find anywhere in Cruise Personaliser that refers to bath robes, but I can wait and just ask the steward.

When you're in your Cruise Personalizer, click the "Guest Check-In" box near the top of the page. Scroll about half way down that page and you'll see the section titled "Onboard Preferences", there you will see "Robe In Your Cabin".

  12.
Are you sure about this? I'm "almost" certain I have received replies from two of my kids as well as from my wife when I have sent text messages from my computer. The only down side I am aware of is that the reply went to my email account rather than to my phone.

Granted, this is a downside, but I'm 99.9% certain that I did receive the reply.
I agree with this too. I use this method once in awhile to fire off a quick text message to one of my sons. When they text back I receive it as an email.

  13. Hi! Any suggestions for San Francisco transportation from Fisherman's Warf area hotel to cruise terminal? We are a group of 6 adults & will also have at least 6 pieces of luggage. We are not wanting public transportation because of the luggage. Is there a shuttle service for hire in the area or will we need several Taxis? Thanks!!!

Which hotel? The Fisherman's Wharf area is pretty close to Pier 35 depending on which end of Fisherman's Wharf you're staying. As the previous poster mentioned, contact your hotel and see what arrangements they recommend.
