  1. The drink vouchers are not automatically given out but only on cruises where are there are an unusually large number of Elite's. We have never been given vouchers.,

We've only had drink vouchers one time, on the Infinity May 2017 San Diego to Vancouver. They were to be used in the Sky Lounge.

  2. Cruising on Allure in May coming in from Phila, but airfare is insane right now. Has anyone flown into Miami and rented a car or take a shuttle service to Port Everglades, if so how much did you pay?

    Thanks [emoji4]

When we flew into Fort Lauderdale in Dec. we used Uber to get to terminal 18 and it was $12.81. I also checked Uber's price if we had flown into Miami and it was very reasonable. I just checked it again, and from MIA to Port Everglades Terminal 18 is $33.94 for Uberx.

  3. I remember something going back about 5 to 10 years ago, where an agency (or several agencies) were questioning the legitimacy of a number of Puerto Rican birth certificates, on the theory that they were either fraudulent or forged. New requirements were put into place -- to obtain Drivers Licenses and Passports for example -- where if you submit a certificate from Puerto Rico, you had to submit other verifying documents until a tamper proof version of the BC could be obtained.

I wish I had followed up on that subject, I don't know whether those docs are still suspect. The idea of getting a passport -- time consuming as it is in this specific case -- might be your best bet. You don't want to get to the port on cruise day and be denied boarding because of a problematic piece of ID.

    Thanks Michael,

I'm asking for a friend that wants to take his first cruise using a PR birth certificate. I think there was a requirement to get new birth certificates if the current one was issued before July 1, 2010. He received a new birth replacement birth certificate in 2015.

I suggested getting a passport, but he refuses to take my advice.

  4. Was that a Minnesota thing? In my K-12 days, approx 1964-1977 teachers could only smoke in the Teachers lounges and students could only smoke in the bathrooms with a look out.

1957-1968 here.....yes, and that's why they removed the doors on all of the stalls in our school restrooms. ;) They put a small fenced in area outside for the smokers to light up at our Tampa high school.

  5. My block was delivered to my cabin. I never had to ask about it.

And I have to say that being "questioned" by TSA is a bit mild. I was pulled out for special screening in Barcelona, which included a complete pat-down and a dissection of my carry-on luggage. Then at JFK I watched the sudden frown on the face of the lady manning the scanner, followed by the summoning of another attendant, They pulled my bag off the belt, took it over to be opened and his hand dove right under the dirty clothes padding that block and pulled it out. Then he looked at me in confusion (clearly this person does not cruise).

I got the TSA carry-on inspection last month in Ft. Lauderdale. They questioned my Harmony block and and gave me a pat-down.

  6. Did she have the surf & stream or just surf? The just surf package is very slow

I'm guessing just surf. She used her Diamond perk for the free 24 hours.

We used our 4 free 24 hour internet perks on the Harmony last month, and WhatsApp worked great for calls and texts with the basic package. I was even able to watch TV shows on my smartphone.

  7. Early bird is an option but with 8 people the cost adds up pretty quickly. I could probably buy an internet package for the entire week for less. :D

I don't mind being in group B, but would definitely want to avoid group C.

I just did this on our B2B Harmony cruise. I had the laptop set up in the room, left my wife at the Wonderland Bar, went to the room at 7:33 and checked in for our 7:35 pm Southwest flight, got row A, went back to the Wonderland Bar at 7:38 and continued drinking.:D

All this for a 38 minute flight to Tampa.;)

  8. She said that because of the shape of the basin there was not a lot of natural water movement and that at times the water was less than healthy and that most of the locals avoided swimming there because of that...like I said, not sure if it's true, but being a girl raised on back waters/swamps/bays it makes sense. There are areas here that I don't swim because of that exact reason. Just sayin';)

I agree. Toured the whole island and Morning Star Beach is still my favorite.

  9. Need help! Want to surprise my wife for our anniversary. I have been on 4 RCI cruises and 5 Carnival but I have always been intrigued by NCL. Can anyone that has been on al three give me a run down on the difference. I know the obvious NCL has no dress code for dinning and they have more dinning options. My wife and I like the adult only areas and we are foodies so these are very important to us. Also I have heard that NCL main dining room food is not very good if you are going to take an NCL cruise you need to take there specialty dinning package. Any information would be great, thanks.

With NCL choose 2 packages you can get drinks and 3 speciality dining.

Also NCL has what is called Vibe area and H2O which is adults only.

There are more similarities than differences between the lines.

Been on 85 cruises, 4 on NCL, 40 on RCI, and 41 on other cruise lines. We just went on the Epic last month with the UBP and 4 Specialty dining included. Bad news....that cruise spoiled us! My wife got her Grey Goose Cosmos and Mojitos, and I had a huge selection of beers and wine to choose from. Cagney's was my favorite....the Filet Mignon was excellent. In my opinion, the MDR and Buffet food is better on NCL compared to RCI.

We were also impressed with the entertainment on the Epic, the production shows, bands, comedy club, etc. Always something to do.

We're sailing back to back (14 nights) on the Harmony of the Seas this Saturday....I'm really going to miss the NCL free UBP offer, but at least we'll get a few drinks in the D+ Lounge each evening.;)

My wife just booked us on the 4/16/17 Jade out of Tampa, UBP with gratuities, and shipboard gratuities included. I think I'm getting hooked on NCL.:D

Good luck with your decision and have a great anniversary cruise!

  10. She is not the only one who doesn't "get it". Tried to get ours when we hit 140 and was told you get it on next cruise. Next cruise came and was told should have got on last cruise. Called C&A about it, " sorry too late". :(

We never receive our blocks during the cruise, always have to call C&A and have them mailed to us.

  11. Does anyone know if the band Kronos is still playing on Brilliance of the seas ?

We sail on the 13th ,hopefully they'll be there for our cruise.

Bob will you be on Brilliance anytime soon ?

Just got off the Brilliance yesterday.....we were on the Brilliance 12/10, 12/14, 1/21, and 1/25, and Kronos was still there. Great band!

On another note, be careful when walking in the Windjammer...the floors can be very slippery. Yesterday morning a woman fell on the starboard side rear area when I was going to get coffee at the outside drink station. A minute later when I walked back in, a man was laying on the floor in the same location waiting for medical treatment.

  12. The other side of that coin is that the nightly cocktail parties, which are obviously very popular among RCI loyalists, drive repeat business. As with any loyalty program, the goal is to get the customers back through the door again and again.

For me, the nightly drinks are a great way to keep me coming back. Every time I think about booking another cruise line, the little voice in my head (one among many) whispers to remember Royal's generous loyalty perks.

I don't think anyone believes the drinks to be free. But at the wholesale bulk pricing the cruise line pays, the cost must obviously be worth enticing guests to come back onboard.

    Well said.

Hey Grady, I'm the guy that took pictures of the Jewel when you were going through Tracy Arm Fjord on your Alaska cruise this past summer when we were on the Infinity. Your Alaska photos turned out great!

Maybe I'll see you at the CL bar.

Gotta finish packing and mow the lawn. Safe travels everyone.

  13. We are turning Diamond Plus in six weeks. What will our choices be? Asking because we go on a ten night cruise just ten days after returning. I already know to call the C&A desk as soon as we get home and get them to manually change our status. They said we can choose our gift then too, but need to know what I am choosing from! LOL!
