๐๐ผ @Ocean Boy (and anyone else who is interested in lighthouses.) I found this article in todayโs ProJo and I thought you would be interested in it. I hope I am posting this link correctly. ๐ค๐ผ https://providencejournal-ri.newsmemory.com?selDate=20230724&goTo=A01&artid=2 Just in case the link doesnโt work, Iโll paste some excerpts from the article. I don't think I will be breaking any copyright rules, if I put the excerpts in quotes?? I'll put them in italics, too. We visit Beavertail quite often (at least 10 times a year), yet I never knew that the lighthouse was the third oldest in not just the USA - but North America!! Here are a few quotes from the article: โFeds OK RIโs bid to take over North Americaโs third-oldest lighthouseโ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ โFrom the top of the Beavertail Lighthouse in Jamestown, on a clear day the vistas expand to Marthaโs Vineyard and Block Island.โ โIn 1972, the beacon was automated, ending the tradition of light keepers. In 1991, the Fresnel lens was replaced with a rotating beacon, and the old one is on display in the museum.โ โThe lighthouse and museum are open every day, 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., from June 19 through Sept. 4. In the fall, they are open on weekends from Sept. 9 through Oct. 8, as well as Columbus Day, Oct. 9.โ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I think you would really enjoy the museum and all the artifacts that they have on display, especially that Fresnel Lens. We havenโt revisited the museum since around 2019, but I assume it hasnโt changed much. I know you will most definitely want to climb the tower. So, here are the dates and times that you can enjoy the Beavertail Lighthouse: โThe lighthouse tower is open to climb, from 1:30 to 4 p.m., on the following dates: July 29 Aug. 7 (National Lighthouse Day) Aug. 12 Aug. 26 Sept. 4 (Labor Day) Sept. 23 Oct. 9 (Columbus Day) "Reach reporter Wheeler Cowperthwaite at wcowperthwaite@providencejournal. com or follow him on Twitter @WheelerReporter.โ In order to avoid any copyright issues with their photos, here is one of my own photos of the lighthouse taken in May from the more distant road that you must travel on now. Below is a closer view. Unfortunately, you can no longer drive on this road that encircles the lighthouse like we did for this photo back in 2017, but you can walk to the lighthouse from the parking lots. Like the Cliff Walk in Newport, the rock ledges around Beavertail have also been deteriorating. ๐ข

Hi, Mark! @SteelCityCruiser10 It looks like you have already been given some great suggestions for your stop in Juneau from Andrew @A&L_Ont, @reallyitsmema, and @taznremmy. So, I just wanted to add that I agree with their suggestions, too! When we stopped at Juneau many years ago, we did as Reallyitsmema suggested and took the Blue Bus (I think there were white ones, too) to Mendenhall Glacier and Nugget Falls. It was really interesting there and there were many informational signposts along the paths. When we returned, we stopped for lunch at Tracyโs King Crab Shack as Andrew and Reallyitsmema suggested. Thatโs really is a 'must do' for this port! And as Taznremmy suggested, we also stopped at the Red Dog Saloon and had a couple of drinks before heading back to the ship. I agree that Red Dog has a really fun vibe including a piano player for the old-time singalongs. There are also interesting Goldminers' artifacts hanging on the walls. I saw the gondolas and I would have enjoyed a ride, but hubby doesnโt enjoy heights. So, we skipped the gondola ride, but I enjoyed seeing the eagles who were perched in and flying around the huge evergreens in that area. It really wasnโt a โpicture perfectโ day when we were there, since it was very cloudy and drizzly, but here are a few not so 'sharp' photos anyway. Mendenhall Glacier and Nugget Falls The photo below was hanging up on the shack. Dani @dani negreanu has also posted a few pictures of the yummy and gigantic crabs from her trip to Tracy's. Maybe she will join in and show you her photos. Whatever you decide to do Mark . . . I hope you have a great time! Sue

Hi John @Ozark_Kid, Yes, I can play it !!! ๐ค (using MacBook Pro) OMG!! Kenzie is such a cutie pie!! Thank you sooo much for sharing her with us!! Those eyes and that smile and sweet baby talk. I LOVE it!! ๐ฅฐ For @dani negreanu I think she's saying "I ('m) gettin' dat (that) dirt out." And when her mom asks, "Are you helping Mommy?" She answers, "Yeah." Then, very honestly, "No, I ('m) gettin' dat (that) dirt out." "Wow... Wow" I don't understand her last sentence though. She may be repeating what her mom said to her??
