  1. I hate the nickel and dime feeling one can get from cruising. I love Princess so, I am not looking to switch cruise lines.

We traditionally get the drink package because we pay up front and don't have to worry about it. When they did the BOGO for $1 the bars that did it were packed, crowded and it was difficult to order what you wanted. The bar tenders were always exhausted after it too, it got crazy in there. We avoided the crowds even when it was at our favorite bars.

The package was perfect at the previous price. Now, I'm not so sure. It's only $10 more, but it felt like a good deal before. Now, the higher likelihood of me reaching the price point daily on my own is more complicated. The water, sparkling water, coffee plus a few drinks sounds like it is easy enough to do, but then, if I'm paying one drink at a time, maybe I'd drink less?

How many sea days also makes a difference. Port intensive cruise, it's not worth it for us to get the package. Lots of sea days, more worthwhile to get. It also depends on what you drink. Beer only, package doesn't seem to be a good idea for us.

Our next few cruises that have the drink package included I won't worry about. Those that don't have it, I'm on the fence.

I see that I can order a bottle of wine or liquor from service. Have you done this?

  2. Loving your review!! We just booked this week this same itinerary on the Royal Princess for June 2019. We are also late 40's traveling with our son and daughter just a little older than yours.

How far in advance did you book most of your tours, hotels, etc.. I feel like I'm behind already. Right now all we have is the cruise. Hoping to do 3 or 4 days prior DIY and a few days after in Vancouver.

Never been to Alaska but having cruised many times (in more tropical areas ;):D).

We are cruising June 2019 and feel like I have much research to do. We need a support group. We are spending 2 days in Fairbanks before Princess Land tour. Then DIY Vancouver and Seattle.

Let me know if you discover anything.

  3. As the above post says, it is mainly to avoid a large bill to be paid after the end of the cruise.

But you should know that the cruise lines have learned that people who do prepay, knowing that there would not be a large charge at the end of the cruise, tend to spend more on board than those who know they will have a big bill to pay after the cruise ends.

Do you see a trend, in that the cruise line treats those customers differently that prepay? Just curious, if anyone noticed a difference?

    Thanks, Bobbi

  4. Got two premium balconies - C509, C515 (apparently next to each other).

Wanted to say a big thank you to this community to people who posted to my questions and those who made good posts I used to help pick itinerary and boat. The boat seems to have good viewing, I get to Hubbard Glacier and Glacier Bay and I think I will try and do the 26 glacier tour in Whittier the afternoon before boarding, Hopefully my 12 and 16 year old boys will enjoy too.

I will try and give back to the community after I have done the trip by way of thanks.

I am in C504 for my cruise. :)

  5. I've posted the Princess Patters and dinner menus from our southbound Voyage of the Glaciers on 7/11/18 to my personal website: http://www.stonejongleux.com/. They're at the top of the page (father below you'll find them for our other cruises since 2016).

Thank you for your efforts. Much appreciated. How do people dress for formal nights? We are only bringing a carry one suitcase due to extensive locations we are hitting during our three weeks. What would you suggest?

    Thanks, Bobbi

  6. We were on the Dream the week before you, also had FTTF, and it was a failure for us also. Our room wasn't ready when we boarded, I went to guest services, lugging my heavy backpack and explained to them the only reason I had purchased FTTF was for the early access to our room. They refunded the cost right there. It seems they may be selling too many FTTF, the stewards can't keep up.

Chris Williams, the CD, was amazing. His one man show is the best show I have seen on a Carnival ship.

We are taking golf clubs and my PVP told me to take them straight to my cabin. I have not been able to purchase FTTF. I have been trying several times a day for months. Anyway, our PVP told us we need to take our clubs straight to the cabin and put them in the closet then go to the Lido. So I am amazed that you can't put your luggage down.

Thanks for the review and info everyone.
