  1. We did Getaway June 2016, Epic this past January, and Escape in April. We have a CAS certificate to use, prefer to stay away from Western Caribbean. The spouse is very much interested in Dawn out of SJU for Southern Caribbean. Any thoughts on sailing one of the smaller ships after the larger?

Having sailed both Getaway and Epic, could you answer a question:

We sailed last Dec on Getaway and loved the Waterfront. We are considering Epic now. I know there is no waterfront, but are there outdoor areas where you can relax, have a drink and watch the water go by? How did you like the two ships in relation to one another.

  2. Sounds like you already made your choice, but on the subject of beverage plans, there is a difference between non drinker and not a big drinker. For a seven night cruise you will pay 61.95 for the soda package with tip. The tip on the free beverage plan will be 99 for a 38 dollar difference. If you will have even four alcoholic drinks during the week you would be better taking the UBP.

  3. You can't prepay your excursions if you want to take advantage of the excursion credit promotion. We used it and the way it works is you reserve the excursion but have it billed to your onboard account, then after you take it, the credit appears on your statement. If you try to book online, you are required to prepay, that's why you need to book thru the excursion 800 number.

  4. Hello,

I am confused about the sleeping arrangements in the balcony rooms on the Getaway. All photos show one large bed and a sofa. We have 2 adults and one child. Does the sofa open up for our child? The family we are travelling with have 2 kids. Will both kids sleep on the sofa or is there a drop down bed somewhere?

Yes, the sofa makes l bed and in the rooms rated for four a second bed drops from the ceiling.

  5. Sure! It should be not be a problem. If the server is confused though, just ask for baileys. Then order a coffee. Or order 2 bailey's then a coffee, based on how you like it. Enjoy.

This, the other night I ordered a shot of Baileys and a coffee and the server tried to talk me in to an Irish Coffee. I said no, just regular coffee and Baileys on the side. She brought it and I mixed them myself.

  6. OK... I understand that my cabin will have a mini-fridge. How is this stocked? I have UBP, so how do I get it stocked with... well.... Ultimate Beverages???

Here is what we did. Asked the steward to clean it out. Then everytime I passed a bar on the way back to the cabin I would ask for a couple of beers unopened. Put them in the mini fridge and voila. Never had a problem getting the beers unopened.

  7. Can anybody list what the taxes are on the drinks while in the different ports on a Western?

    Thank you!:)

we just did Western Caribbean on Getaway and the only place taxes were charged was in Miami on sailaway. It amounted to about .80 per drink and was charged until about 5 pm at which point we were out to sea.

Oops, I see you may be talking about Western Med, in which case my answer is of no help.

  8. Karl, what snorkeling trip did you take in Roatan?

We actually just snorkeled right off the beach at West Bay. We did Tabyana beach through the ship, but if you want to book independently you can taxi to Bananarama or a couple of others and walk right out. The reef is just yards off the beach. If you want to go by boat check the Roatan message board for suggestions.

  9. Hey, we sail Saturday. How was the weather while at sea? We've never been on a December cruise. I LOVE the waterfront and enjoy dining outside. Is that possible on December evenings? Thanks for your thoughts!

The weather was great except our last sea day returning where it rained most of the day. The evenings on the waterfront could be a bit breezy but it was still warm. Days were hot but not unbearably so. We loved it.
