  1. as noted on this thread and many other places, you can not now remove for any reason. You submit the paperwork and they determine yes or no. Many people have been turned town.

I hate to prolong this argument as I haven't even sailed yet and can't envision removing the service charges, but in the interest of accurate info, here is the language from the ticket contract( with the relevant part bolded), which is the relevant governing document:

    c) Service Charges: Certain members of Carrier’s crew are compensated by a combination of salaryand incentive programs that are funded in part bythe service charge paid by each Guest. The charge ,which is automatically added to your onboard account and subject to adjustment at your discretion, is intended to reward service provided in all departments and job categories and is distributed to employees

according to Carrier's evaluation of job performance.

A portion of the service charge collected by Carrier

is also used for fleet-wide crew welfare programs.

  2. Nancy Reagan was First Lady in 1973? Uh, I don't think so.

That's when almost all states raised their drinking age back to 21.

    .

And you are mistaken that it was 18 in most of the south...

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/U.S._history_of_alcohol_minimum_purchase_age_by_state

Am I? Per your own link to wikipedia, in 1975, two years after you earlier said it was raised, Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Georgia, Florida and Tennessee were 18, NC and SC were 18 for beer and wine, 21 for liquor. Alabama was not. Seems pretty much like most of the south to me.

  3. There is no national drinking age law.

There IS a law that tells the 50 states that they won't get federal highway money if their drinking age isn't 21.

    So......extortion.

Exactly, that's how congress got around that pesky Supreme Court and that silly document those founders thought was so important ;-)

  4. <snip>. It has nothing to do with reservations.

It's no harder to freestyle it 3 times with the SDP than it is to freestyle it 3 times without the SDP.

I hear you, but as a first time NCL cruiser, I have gotten the impression from the board here that eating at the specialty restaurants is difficult without reservations, so if I was getting the SDP that would concern me. It may not be true that you can't get in them without a reservation, but a couple of months on here have left me with that impression. We aren't doing the SDP just because as a first timer, I think we will have plenty to choose from anyway and I don't want to have to decide 2 months in advance what time I want to have dinner on vacation.

  5. Could you explain a bit more how this information affects your decision to buy a dining package or not?

Not the OP, but it makes sense to me. They probably feel that if they get the SDP, then to make use of it they need reservations in advance, but are worried that if they must miss a reservation there is a monetary penalty, so they might just want to freestyle it. Not really that hard to understand, IMO.

  6. I wasn't aware that children could order food from the adult menu. That's good to know because I have been seriously concerned about what my 11 year old was going to eat all week without us spending every meal at the buffet.

Hopefully someone else will correct me if I am wrong, but I believe they will be charged as adults if they order from the adult menu.

  7. <snipped> Because (for the millionth time) daily moves on Wall St are not indicative of the larger picture.

Even less relevant are midday comments on movement, as now, just a few minutes later, it's up .47%

If anyone is interested in the momentary price of the stock, all they need to do is type NCLH in the search bar and press enter for a quote. (Doubt that will stop the updates though)

  8. We make a stop here on our Thanksgiving cruise this year and was wondering how far it is from the port that they are currently using? Will there be locals to book with or is it far enough from everything else that you have to book excursions with NCL? Im assuming there will be a beach there?

It is about 70-80 miles from Belize City. The nearest town on the mainland is Placencia. I have read that some of the tour operators from the North plan to operate in Placencia, but until it opens I think nobody can say for sure. There will be a beach on Harvest Caye.

  9. It seems you just need them to complete online check in, so by a week or so before sailing. FYI, wife and I renewed ours just recently, mine was barely expired, wife's expired in 2000 or so. Both took about 9-10 days so you should be fine.

  10. no, there's no way to tell online when booking with a TA.

but if you're past final payment date and your booking still shows online and has not been canceled out, then you're good!

Thanks, that makes sense! Not quite there, as the TA final payment date was 7 days earlier, but everything seems to be correct so I'll just chill.

  11. No, there is not a place on MyNCL to see if your Travel Agent paid in full. However you should not have paid your travel agent directly, its generally charged by NCL. The charge on your card should read "NCL Reservations".

It does! I would just feel better seeing something that showed paid in full. Not a big deal, it just seems like that would be something that could be checked.

  12. Under Vacation Summary, scroll down and click the + to expand the Payment box. Any payment info is there, but I'm not sure what that looks like when using a TA, if it even shows at all.

I don't show a box for that... mine has prepay service charges, guests, ship, stateroom, air (etc), and what to know before you go. Maybe different because it is through a TA?

    Thanks for the answer.

  13. Is there a way to see if your trip is fully paid in My NCL? When I look, my trip shows as "booked". We made final payment on Monday with our TA, charge shows as processed on our credit card, but being first timers I didn't know if there was a paid status that should show. I can't seem to see anywhere on there the payment status of the trip.

  14. The gist of it is, you will eventually be charged the correct amount, but more of your money may be tied up temporarily waiting for the final charges to post. For this reason, you are much better off securing your account with a credit card rather than a debit card, if you may need access to those funds quickly.
