  1. Thanks Wendy for sharing your hobbies.  I should be so happy to have the opportunity to be writing all day!  Not to be.  The sheer feeling of relaxation thwarts all my need to sit down and write.  Also, DH decided we need a "pandemic puppy" to keep us happy by being caring and nurturing a baby.  What he didn't bargain for is that the lovable rascal would also keep us exhausted!  Now that I will not be going to the gym (although recently opened, I decided against any unnecessary exposure), our puppy makes me run around the neighborhood and keeps me exercised...unfortunately, DH does not join us in these adventures... DH and I both work out around 40 minutes in the treadmill after dinner, after which we fantasize our butler brings us a Glenlivet or better as a reward.  We actually do have a "scotch repas" after exercise, and watch Netflix series or movies.  Right now we are watching, in Spanish, Money Heist, which you can watch in English and is quite entertaining.

Option to old reruns of the Love Boat: Netflix Spanish mystery series High Seas (Alta Mar).

Saw all available seasons/episodes in Spanish (my first language), but have to concede it is soap-operatic.  However, it is still interesting and entertaining.  The last season deals with a virus on board...rather relevant.

Your comments are so nice!☺  One thing on the west coast is that we have less rules such as not wearing white after Labor Day.  We wear white whenever we feel like it.  There is still a little flower child in me.  We had some fun love-ins.

Berkeley must have been wondrous when you went to UC Berkeley.  As they said on "All in the Family", those were the days!

Those were the days, indeed!  I remember sitting in the stairs of Sproul Hall, together with dozens (not hundreds) of people, listening to Joan Baez strumming her guitar and singing.  Also, Billie Jean King's locker was close to mine and we said hello.  Well, these are my claim to fame!

  4. I am originally from Puerto Rico but have lived in the East Coast for more than 25 years.   Years and years ago I had the opportunity to do my graduate studies at UC Berkeley.  What a wonderful find, the West Coast was!!  Unfortunately my career and, that of my DH, veered us East, but I remain enamored of the warmth of its people, its laid back attitude, and its stricking thirst for progress.  We can now only speculate how, as flower children, we would have developed.  I know, however, that lessons learned made me a much better professional, mother, and grandmother.  Cheers for the West Coast!!

  5. Me neither, Lois.  I just buy some annual baskets and water them.  If they wilt and die...so be it.    I much prefer doing dancercise (now at home), reading, and doing Sudoku.  I've become quite good at it in the past several months!

I thought it had been proven that Guillaume Barre Syndrome was not caused by the flu shot?  There's some kind of association I believe, but not that, but I can't remember what it is.

My father had GB in the 60's.  An truly awful disease.

I suffered the Guillain Barré Syndrome when I was in my twenties and little was known about the disease.  I was temporarily paralyzed and it was indeed horrible.  Since then, my primary care doctors have advised against vaccinations that have not been proven to cause a GB reaction.  The regular flu shot has not yet passed the test.

  7. Beautiful city, Montreal!  We are originally from Puerto Rico but have lived in the States for most of our married life.  First in Milwaukee, then in this CNY area.  We have been cruising since 2009, mostly with Silversea and Seabourn, but this year we tried Regent for the first time and loved it too.  Hopefully we will sail again some time in the future, and maybe may be able to meet with you on a voyage!

We lived in B'Ville (and Dublin, Ireland) for 12 or so years before building a home here in Savannah. Head up every summer to play golf at my old Club with friends and it's always a must to hit the Dinosaur a couple times.

We lived in Ithaca, NY, for 25 years while engaged to Cornell, but moved to Camillus to be near our daughter and family around 5 years ago.  I absolutely love the Finger Lakes and the Syracuse area.  Actually Camillus is around 15 minutes from B'Ville.  Oh, the Dinosaur!!  Best ribs and chili!!

We live in a rural area between Syracuse and Rochester, NY.  Phase 2 will be starting June 1 for some of the counties up here.  Masks are required everywhere.   We are busy with planting our garden, so getting out and about isn't that crucial for us, at least at this point.

We live just west of Syracuse (hi neighbor!) but Gov. Cuomo has placed our Phase 2 on hold.  I think this was right, although we will have to start opening in the near future.  DH and I are hunkering down for the long haul and...like most people in this area...we got a dog!!  He is the cutest Morkie (half Maltese and half Yorkie) and was quite expensive, but the dog shelters have ran out!!!  I only hope those adopting or buying pets will commit themselves to them after all lockdowns are lifted.  He is our first pet and we are so very excited!!!!

  10. Hi JP, I read in the Cooler that a big anniversary is coming up.  Congrats to you and Chris!

BTW, my last cruise before the storm was on Regent and I've been following some threads.  It seems the Cooler has been inspirational to some Regent regulars and they may start one.  You people are pioneers!

  11. Great thread!

In normal life I write short, 10 minute plays, which are read/acted in our Play Group sessions.  Well, you would think that with so much time in my hands now I could be like the "road runner" of plays... wrong!  The silence, the stillness, all lulls my mind.  No writing when thinking bliss takes over.  I then decided to overextend my physical exercises and that resulted in a bruised hip.  All in all, I am sort of enjoying the lockdown...

BTW- people that had Barr-Epstein Syndrome, after mononucleosis, cannot take the flu vaccine. It’s not only allergy to eggs.

I will also add those that have had the Guillain Barré Syndrome, a virus that lodges into your spinal cord and debilitates and/or incapacitates your nervous system.   I suffered this while young and was able to overcome it, but I cannot have the regular flu vaccine, as it may trigger it back.  Most probably, I will not be able to have the anti-Covid vaccine.  Great that my last cruise was on Regent-Explorer!

  13. I am not coming out of quarantine until "Colón baje el dedo".

Sorry, I just had to say that.  It refers to a Puerto Rican saying NEVER.  There is a big statue of Christopher Columbus at the entrance of Old San Juan, with his arm raised and his index finger pointing... His finger, of course, will always point and never come down.  All generations since have used this phrase to signify NEVER.

  14. We took our first Regent cruise this past February to the Caribbean.  We are on our late 60's and early 70's and are fit and trendy.  We want to share that we found the age demographic skewed towards the infirm and over our age group.  The passengers were delightful, however.  But this was a short cruise to the Caribbean which many posters tend to describe as having a younger demographic.
