I did! you pick up a ticket in the office right outside the gangway. $25 round trip. Water taxi Comes often. It’s primitive, showers didn’t work and you bring your own toilet paper. Beach was great. Snorkeling from beach was decent at the far end. Lots of locals. I will likely do this again next year. I’d be more than happy to show you where to get the tickets but it’s super easy. You can see the motu from the ship.

Snooker lounge on grand do they still allow smoking? Does anybody know where outside smoking is on the ground?

One deck above the aft lido pool, one of my favorite Princess smoking areas, nice couches. Last time I was on her it was starboard. Time before was port side.

    Agree.

Smokers such as yourself using the casino as a smoking lounge is nothing new. Princess has always allowed it.  Even when the casino is closed to gambling. The smokers are not a fault here. It is an authorized smoking area.

Glad Princess is removing Churchills. But turning them into arcades!! 👎

You posted while I was talking, so the Grand is or has removed it?

What I'm seeing is Princess is converting the dedicated enclosed smoking lounges into arcades.  So if smokers want to smoke inside going forward, we'll be in the casino, probably not gambling or playing so slow as to be not gambling.  It'll become our smoking lounge.

A step backwards if you ask me.

Yup.  I don’t remember the ship (seems like it was the Emerald). Used to have tables by the bar where you could smoke cigarettes (before they instituted smoking only while gambling) and cigars were only allowed in Churchills  (until the post Covid re-start).  Non smokers don’t realize that we had our own battle between cigar and cigarette smokers, when it came to Churchills.  Personally I couldn’t stand cigars, but if I chose to go to Churchills in inclement weather, I was in their turf.  I was so shocked when I met my husband at the aft smoking area (he was smoking a cigar) and found out that they were now allowed at the aft.  He was shocked when I told him they were never allowed there (he’s a newer cruiser).  After they re-opened Churchills it became one of his favorite places, guess I’ll have to take him on the Grand one last time.  Hopefully someone can confirm that it is still open “for now”.

    Oh well for every action…..

If you have the kits, it’s on the box, it shows the manufacturing date, which has been Dec 2021 and exp date of Nov 6, 2022, for all of mine and everyone that I’ve seen posted recently.

You’re supposed to come back new, not exhausted!  🤣

Who hoo THANK YOU are correct!  Covers me for the next two cruises hip hip hurray.  Now fingers crossed they don’t require PCR , lol

  6. Sorry, we didn’t go to the beach club.  Took new “cruiser friends” with an adult son to the mango deck,  fun, great tacos but very expensive!  Although much less then Billigans .  They had security so vendors could not come in.  Very strict with masks.  Kinda hard to swim with a mask, but if you were only going out to swim they would let you back in without one to go back to your table.

I would go back again, but kind of over cabo a little.  Will have two days there in a month, just might stay on the ship with all the Covid going on.

I will say the beach club looked very nice, but the loungers were placed just to close for my “Covid comfort “

  7. Thanks for the answers I just got off the Ruby I week ago.  Just stopped rocking, tried once to stop updates. Just got 6 new kits from emed.  iPhone is pretty much demanding it, if I can just hold it off until Feb 3!

does anybody happen to have the link for checking emed test kit expiration dates, I know it’s here somewhere but I am exhausted

    thanks, Tammy

I thought the other thread said that they were "working" on the issue and it would be fixed in 24 hours.  Hmmmm....sounds familiar.

I know but that was before I boarded the Ruby Princess on Dec 17.  Just ordered 6 more kits. Even if they expire Feb 2, I’m ok as next (hopefully) cruise is Feb 3 and we can test Feb 1.

Especially after what we just went through to get home from San Francisco, this is my Nbr 1 choice.

Bigger fear now is that they will start requiring pcr tests and won’t accept antigen.

    argggh!

  9. Thank you for posting this.  I read that thread also and was concerned about updating my phone.  Just got off the Tuby and had no problems with old version.  Next is the grand in February, pretty sure my phone will quit working on me if I don’t update lol!  Will definitely be following this thread!

We stayed at the RIU in April for a week. Was very nice .  I belive their day pass gets you the same all-inclusive stuff as a guest . You have a snack spot between the pools for hamburgers and the like or the buffet with lots of good stuff to eat and a great view of the Arch . Nice wide beach , but not for swimming . Lots of bars with a wide variety of drinks. You could lounge by the pool and staff will come by about every 15 minutes to get your drink order.

Thank you for the info.  Nice to know about the swimming, you just saved us $200 bucks.  For those who had been reading/interested in the beach club.  They finally emailed back, $60pp for the day with $50pp in food and beverage credit.  Princess just changed our itinerary and we will no longer be in Cabo on Christmas Eve, think we’ll save this option for February cruise.  Will post up then if anyone is interested.

  11. Hi all. I’ve been going to Billigans (next door to the office) for at least 20 years.  We were there two weeks ago (after two years) and not the same.  They had removed the “free while eating and drinking loungers” and only had $200 beds for rent.  We ended up renting chairs and a umbrella for $40 from a vendor on the beach.  We still had our food and drinks from them, but the drinks were watered down, Arggg!  It ended up being an expensive day and our old favorite “people” were not happy with their tips.

Going back in two weeks and again in February. Want some new place to go.  Any suggestions?  We just want comfy loungers, near the beach with good food and drink.  Anyone ever go to Cabo villas beach club?  They said it is $60 with $50 for food, they never got back to me if that is for one or two people.  Suggestions?  Thanks

Thank you for posting this.  Hubby was literally stapling  on our Koningsdam tags while I read this.  So I just ordered some (sitting here waiting to be thrown out of our hotel room at noon lol).  1:20 check in time.   I feel like a kid waiting to go to Disneyland.

  13. @DAllenTCYso what is your honest suggestion for DH and I.  But first, a little background.  In our 50’s, however I have Multiple Sclerosis and DH has a severely broken back that was medically repaired (not things anyone can tell by looking at us).  Neither one of us can stand for very long, hubby usually stands in line while I sit.

Pre COVID, I was never one to rush the ship.  Used to go have a leisurely lunch and usually arrive just around 2pm or after and walk on the ship etc.  That apparently won’t work for this cruise.  We have a 1:20 check in next Sunday in San Diego.  Have no problems dropping off bags and going back over to the Mexican place on the pier and hanging out where I can sit in shade and have access to the restroom (both a necessity with MS).  However I am fairly sure I won’t be able to see the line for the ship.  I remember two years ago in the middle of our b2b getting off the ship and being told to be back no later then 2:30 pm.

I have no desire to order a wheelchair (although I have in the past).   So now what?  Can hubby and I take turns standing in line or are those few benches constantly taken (or heck even removed for COVID protocols ).

  14. Hi, all.

First cruise was RCCL (RCI now?) in 1998 and I’m only 53 lol.  Did four cruises, but not having kids switched to Princess and HAL exclusively.  Now craving some excitement and have two RCI(?) booked.  I’ve watched YouTube videos and think I’ve got it.  Is $168 pp for a 7 day cruise a good price for UDP?  Do I really need to book it now for a June cruise?  Not trying to be lazy, have 3 other cruises booked before this one, but am actually more excited about coming back to Royal.  Somebody please tell me, do they still have those delicious flakey pastries (with fruit, cheese and icing )?

Any and all suggestions/tips for my return (will be new DH first time on Royal).  Between the two cruises, new ports will be Coco Kay, Labadee and Roatan .  What about shows?

    Happy Sailing Everybody!

I've been sitting here all afternoon pondering those very questions.  Alabama does have a vaccine database but RCCL has no legal access to my records.  All I could come up with is they do have the lot numbers of the vaccines and which states used those lot numbers, and perhaps they are seeing if the dates of the shots were within the dates that each lot was available to use to weed out fraudulent cards where someone just put down a good lot number but with a bad date of injection.

I know I can't be the only person who had to get a new vaccine card, and yes it might look suspect if it's all in the same handwriting.  I'd think that even a semi-competent cheater would have different people enter each line of information to make it look good.  In my case it was "sorry, I messed up your card so I had to make a new one".

No you’re not.  DH and I just got new cards when w3 got the booster as well (our were all jacked up).  Now the names are correct, but look like yours all the same handwriting and ink.  I even teased the pharmacist and said please use different pens.   But he ignored me.

You could catch a disease doing that.

Or wake up with a tattoo 😉

We have also booked RCL for the first time in 20 years (used to love them before the water slides), looking forward to a change.  Of course that cruise is in June, have two Princess going before that, lol (I will always be a Princess).  Happy Sailing everyone!

I don’t think anyone here is claiming that vaccines will prevent all infections - it’s common knowledge that there are breakthrough cases.

The point of the post was that passengers are documented as having lied about having symptoms. I hate to sound cynical but it’s quite possible that people are falsifying vaccination records and even test results to go where they please.

If the rest of us still want to cruise, we can only protect ourselves as best we can with existing means- vaccines, boosters, masks, and social distancing.

I agree with you completely.  I am getting ready to go on my first cruise since COVID in a couple of weeks.  Although we have been traveling (ie socially distancing in our rv)  I consider this my first vacation (someone else doing the cooking/cleaning, etc) and just want to have a good time.  We have three more booked after this one.  With the hopes that we can stay healthy for all of them.  Hubby and I will do everything we’ve been doing, living life but keeping our distance as well.

Thank you.  I had read about Emed but couldn't remember the name.  I booked a test with CVS and today got an email that it was cancelled and to reschedule!!  Too much of a chance.  I am ordering the Emed test that you can do at home by zoom.  Much less stress.  Thanks for the link!

Just a heads up (not knowing when your cruise is).  Emed  is currently sold out, word is that Optum is still selling them.
