  1. While it may be a bit unsettling, I always put anything valuable in the safe (wallet, cell phones, ID). If it’s valuable and doesn’t fit in the safe, then I don’t bring it. Also when housekeeping cleans the rooms they prop open the door. If they forgot or need more supplies they leave the door open and go to their supply closet. Finally, there are cameras everywhere and you are in a confined space. Do you really want to steal something and not have the ability to run away for anywhere from 3-15 days?

  2. 1. People are more likely than not to post a negative review than a positive review.

    2. People like to vent. It helps them feel better. So their goal is to feel better but the side effect is others may become discouraged.

    3. They may have actively contributed to their own bad experience. But they seem to always conveniently leave that out of their story.

    4. Their experience can be completely different than your experience.

    5. You chose this cruise for a reason. Don’t let anyone else dictate what will make you happy.

  3. I love....

-a fitness center so close to my room

-so many food options without a bill

    -prepaying gratuities

-seeing and interacting with so many people from around the world

    -my bathroom in my room

    -traveling solo

    -people watching (not judging)

-waking up some place different everyday

-the feeling when I am at the embarkation pier

-walking the casino at anytime taking pictures

—“running the ship” which means boarding the ship at embarkation early to take pictures without a bunch of people being in your way

-visiting places all over the world

-doing puzzle books on the promenade deck

    -“SUNSETS”

what happened with the 5 passengers?

    how did they get hurt?

what do you mean the barge was in Gem's spot?

and there's no central traffic control for the harbor??

On our only At Sea day we were going through a storm with heavy winds, rain, and waves on our way to Canada. Most of the passengers were over the age of 65+. So, one man fell and split his head open, one woman fell and cut open her arm, and another lady fell and hit her head and she ended up having a seizure. When we were in Acadia National Park it was cold and wet. On the rocks a lady slipped and twisted and hurt her ankle.  The fifth person didn't even make it on the ship before leaving NY. He booked the cruise, got to Pier 88 NY and realized he may miss the world series, so to ensure he would't miss any part of it he left and never boarded the ship. When we returned to Pier 88 we were sitting on the Hudson River for about 45 min when the cruise director came on an announced a barge was parked in our spot and wouldn't move. So, it took another 45 minutes for the port workers to move things around to the area we ended up pulling into. Then it took time for the ship to pull into the new spot. A lot of passengers were upset, but at least it wasn't like what the people experienced on the Breakaway.

  5. I was on the Gen this morning and was wondering where the BA was. We had our problems with about five different passengers being injured and ambulances being called. Then as we are pulling in to dock, a barge was in out spot and it was a 1.5 hour delay. These two cruises had problems. Hopefully the new passengers on both trips have a better time.

  6. My best friend went on a cruise for her honeymoon. It was their first cruise. She got sea sick really bad and he had an allergic reaction to his wedding clothes. Though they made it through the entire cruise, travel insurance reimbursed her for the medical expenses. In general, between weather, travel delays, medical expenses, and the unknown of visiting other countries, travel insurance is definitely worth it.

  7. I come into EWR and take Super Shuttle to the Manhattan cruise port for $21. I've only taken Amtrak from EWR to Washington D.C. You can take Amtrak to New York, but you would still have to get on at least one other mode of transportation. It's just easier using the shuttle.

  8. I went last October and I wore capris and jeans. But, i don't normally wear shorts. I would suggest at least one pair of jeans and mix and match shorts, capris, and dresses. The weather was perfect. There was no rain and it was in the 70's-80's the entire time. :ship:

  9. DON'T DO IT! Obviously everyone doesn't have the same experiences BUT....When I ran our Visa Debit Card program at a bank I use to work at every summer there were always problems with cruise holds. When the amount of the final charge doesn't match the hold, the hold will stay on until the # of days for the hold expires or someone manually deletes the hold. The problem really is for people who don't have enough money in their accounts and checks they have written bounce. If the hold(s) were substantial amounts we needed the cruise line to fax us a letter that the bill has been settled in order to remove holds. Save yourself time and anguish and use a credit card or make sure you have thousands of dollars in your checking account. Or some of the other alternatives listed by other posters.

  10. I've been on the Bvreakaway twice. I would ignore the reviews unless you are looking for specific information. Some people are complainers, some people have legitimate complaints, and others like me choose to make the best of a situation. If you are seeing complaints about the food, realize there are many different places to eat, different food, and different atmospheres. If you are seeing complaints about the casino, stay away from the casino. If you are seeing complaints about the smell of smoke, stay away from areas where there is smoking (Cigar lounge, casino). Or if you like the casino, but don't like smoking go when it is less crowded. If you see complaints about the size of the room, buy a room with the dimensions that fit your needs. Don't pick a guaranteed room and then complain about the room you get. If you don't like kids, (me) go during the off season. If you see complaints about the seating in the theater, stand up. If you see reviews about a bad situation on the boat and the customer had problems getting it resolved it can be because they are not persistent or don't have the right people involved. I have taken ocean cruises, river cruises, guided tours, travelled by air, train, etc... There will always be problems, but how you handle it will ultimately determine your happiness. You can only control your actions and no one elses. By the way I loved my two cruises on the Breakaway. Leaving out of NY is a huge plus for me.:D

  11. I cruised POA on 10-22-16 and the cruise next manager had the ship pins. It stated so in my latitudes letter I received in my room the first day. I visited the manager, she asked me how many pins I wanted and I said two. One for me and one for my friend that came with me on the cruise.

  12. When I was going through security to embark on my first cruise, I had a half eaten bag of chips and fruit in my bag. They pulled me aside to investigate further and said I can't go on with an open package of chips and fruit. So, I had no problem getting rid of it. On subsequent cruises I had no problem getting on the ship with factory sealed snacks.

  13. I normally arrive at the pier between 9-10a. They normally start letting people through security after 10a. Once all the previous passengers are off the ship, the public areas are cleaned, and most of the rooms are cleaned they will begin boarding. This usually happens around noon. I arrive so early so I'm one of the first to get on the ship. Also, if some problem surfaces there is enough time to fix it.

  14. The time NCL quotes is accurate for the tour. They will not bring you back to the ship. You have to take a land taxi or a water taxi. I'm a solo traveller and took the water taxi. I ended up waiting in line for 45min. The ride was quick. But, the walk back to the ship was exhausting. Depending on when your tour ends, add about 3 hours if your tour ends at 4pm before going to dinner. That will give you time to get back to the ship, relax, and get to dinner on time.
