  1. Hello all you very informative people.

I am booked on Freedom with an aft balcony on deck 7. With reading CC's latest email about UpGrades it got me thinking and curious.

I'm not thinking of switching , but what would an upgrade be from my stateroom location ? Has anyone ever been upgraded from there ?

I know aft balconies are very popular but wondered what it would take most people to move to a supposedly upgrade from aft balcony. What have you heard ? :p:p

  2. Usually the higher the deck the more $. But if you think 7 is better than 8, it probably works out for you that 7 is cheaper.

Thanks for the reply. I understand that usually higher is more dollars and I am on deck 7 I just find it odd. I would think with the pool area above deck 8 that those units would be noisy with the chairs and people moving around.

Never been on a cruise before so maybe I am wrong thinking that they would be nosy.

  3. Hello! Yes I put USA as well because it starts in the US (I'm guessing the one you are going on does anyway). You can always call them to ask but that is what they told me to do when I had that question before too.

Thanks for the quick reply as usual. :D:D

Yes we are sailing out of Galveston in Feb. I want to do an estimate of cost so your info helps a lot

  4. Yep. That's where I get it from. And when I have questions they are always very knowledgeable.

Hello my go to CC member if getting insurance for a Caribbean cruise would it be USA for country if one is a Canadian? I go to the website you mention and I'm not sure which country I would select as I'm doing the Western Caribbean

  5. I think we live in an "instant gratification" nation. I know of a few people at work that whet on a really cheap carnival cruises because they got a great "deal". They stated that it was not the cruise they wanted but it was all they could afford at the time. So I wonder why not save for 3 years and then buy the vacation that you really want. What's the point of getting a cheap deal if its not what you want??

It's a holiday. I guess it's what's a priority. I know I've done a couple of holidays that weren't at the top or near the top of my list but sometimes you just need to get away

  6. We have a promotional drink package on our HAL Eurodam Alaska cruise. We are allowed 15 drinks per day pp. Were told we are limited to $8 or less per drink (although recently have been told this has been increased to $9). This price is supposed to include service charges. Does this mean we are limited to ordering a drink that is approximate 6.50 - 7.00 (excluding the 15% service charge) on the menu or does the price listed on drink menu include the service charge?

Question #2. Do we have cell service while out to sea? We have a large group traveling with us and trying to determine how to communicate with our friends while cruising, re: our whereabouts, etc.

9$ limit is correct and grats

Limited to no cell service from what I read

  7. Highs in the upper 70's to perhaps 80. We don't have but a day or two each winter where it freezes on average. A true cold front will push temps in February down to the 40's but it's a mild winter part of the country.

That sounds much better than what it would be in BC at that time of year. Thanks

  8. Only tidbit I can give you is that Uber is not allowed in Galveston. You can take one there from the Houston airports but you cannot pick up an Uber in Galveston. We were there a couple of weeks ago and taxis were readily available when we go off.

I did a mock booking and Uber says they are in Galveston :D

  9. Hello

My wife and I are returning from a Caribbean cruise to Galveston on Mar 3 2018.

We are staying the night of the 3rd and flying out on the 4th at noon IAH.

We are thinking of renting a car from Texas City, by I45, and going to the Space Center.

We have never been to Houston or area and I just wanted to post here to see if the great people of cruise critic have any advice.

We have FTTF so we should be off the Freedom early and was planning on taking Uber to the car rental office.

    TIA

Guess this thread is an example of why the board allows you to block seeing posts from certain members. Guess I'll be adding a couple more to my list.

In case you didn't know that was possible... http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2499588&highlight=block+user

Thanks RickT Haven't used it before but might start with one on this forum I have to say though I do sometimes like reading them as it gives me a good feeling when others fire back at them as well. It can be the best laugh of the day

Also thanks for the guru website

  12. Embarkation (Cont.)

With our luggage unpacked and put away, I decided to go walking around the ship. I'm not going to post pictures of every single space on the ship, I'll just concentrate on a few specific areas. And I think that as the review continues on through the week, I'll actually show you most of the ship.

My first stop is my second-favorite part of the ship (ranked only behind my balcony): Serenity Adults Only area. This is a great place to hang out and relax. There's a pool, a hot tub, loungers, hammocks, couches, chairs, and tables. It even has it's own bar! The only downside to Serenity is the non-stop chair hogging! There never seems to be an open lounger, regardless of the time of day. But I could always find a spot to sit around or in the pool, I spent a lot of time back there this cruise, making new friends.

    Loving the review swodog94

Having not cruised before and going on the Freedom in Feb 2018 I have a question about the clamshells in Serenity. Are the clamshells chairhogged or can one reserve them ?

    TIA

  13. Oh, for pete's sake. I called the seats by the wrong name. And since, as you and other posters pointed out, that category doesn't even exist on United, I fail to see the huge problem. Were I poster reading my post, that was interested in booking a flight on United, I would have seen on United's site that PE doesn't exist, and I, as a reasonable person, would have assumed, "Oh, they must have meant Economy Plus." Had I made the mistake on another carrier, possibly it would have been an issue. Only one correction was needed. I made a mistake and I didn't deserve to be told I was "infuriating" or judged/grilled on why I chose the words I used. I've only flown on Air Canada and BA about 25 years ago, so I wasn't aware of the differences.

For the posters that answered my question, thank you very much for your assistance. For the first poster that reasonably pointed out my error, I appreciate the correction. For those of you that piled on, you added nothing to this conservation other than to make other posters wary of ever asking a question, lest they be subjected to similar treatment. It must be nice to be perfect and to have never made a mistake in your life.

I've received the answer to my question, and I'm now finished with this thread, thank you.

That's the problem with posting here a lot of times hiccups Some people have no manners
