  1. We where on the Spirit a few weeks ago. We had to Skype my office and it worked fine . If you are going to stream movies you should have a dvd player in the room I would burn and take what you like or from a laptop you can use a HDMI cable just ask them and they will make it so it works IF the TVs have HDMI input . I can not remember as we where on the Whisper a few years back

  2. Steve probably got lucky due to the large group involved in the photo shoot. The Silvers are the only way to go if it's affordable for the individual.

It was a large group saw them at dinner and lunch 9 of them. Yes very big difference in price. The cabin was a little too big on a 11 day for us as we never spend time in it . BUT my wife loved the free laundry service . Only used the balcony 2 times for about a hour or so. As we always take a ocean view guarantee we win a few and get what we had booked for sometimes

  3. WoW Steve what a wonderful guarantee suite y'all got--Kudos and thanks for the nice wrap up post.

Yes it was worth the gamble. What we found strange what people where saying about canned this and that . Yes there what they call poached but where do you see fresh peaches, figs , pears on a ship. Yes the lobster was frozen no way you can keep that many fresh on board but it was cold water. Yes the Kleenex was Kleenex brand. Yes they made me a special lunch.

  4. We also where on the cruise. Had a great time. Thought everything was great and before we left read some comments about things that seem to not be there. Like no fresh fruit no fresh flowers, Mostly had white orchids. But we did have raw oysters first two nights at dinner.

We did get the up grade from deck four to cabin 1011. When we got on the ship we still had the guarantee . At muster drill we waited for them to call our name and when they did we where surprised for sure when they said the cabin number .

Some asked me before we left about the hdmi for the TV sets . On the cabins that have TV in the mirror there is a port on the desk next to the usb port . In the suite we had all we did was ask and they made it so we could use the port that is the TV its self.

Looking to book South Africa next year .

  5. Personally, I do not care for Maine Lobster, preferring Florida Spiny or Slipper. Having been recently on board Spirit for 3 weeks (Jan/Feb. 2016), I can say we had fresh fish of great variety, more so then I've seen in the past. I am an avid fisherwoman and can tell by taste what is being offered is legitimately what it is named on the menu. Most fish (shrimp as well) is flash frozen right on the fishing vessels, so technically this is what you will find labeled as fresh. It's actually the safest way to buy fish.

FYI, we had multiple boxes of Kleenix brand tissues in our suite. About to board again on Thursday, if I see any change from what I've described here, I'll let you know.

Very true As we live in Florida also We get fresh when it is a local fish. On the lobster tails we prefer warm water . Best we have ever had was from Tasmania. Only thing that you can guarantee fresh is Stone Crabs

Queen Have drink on ship as we are going also. Ship has a lot of cabins still available. UPGRADE ???

  6. I truly cannot believe that you said that!

I can not believe what you said Less common are a few people of more modest income doing just one special cruise. Well I have a modest income and I would rather take 1 on Silver Seas per year than do 2 on the mass market which is about the same when you figure in the total cost .

How do you know how much someone has.

Thank you. You've added to my thinking.

My concern is totally about computer monitor needs. At home and traveling, I spend hours working at the computer. At home, I'm spoiled with two large monitors on my desktop. When I travel for extended periods, I can't get used squeezing down to my laptop screen. And, with every passing year, my eyesight increases the challenge.

In hotels and ships, when possible, I use the TV as an external monitor. Hence, this post.

Your mention of a projector is interesting. I have always thought of them projecting across a room for group watching of a movie, or in a meeting room for a presentation. I really can't image adjusting to computer use this way. However, if I could project onto a wall a few feet in front of a desk, and have a bright image in the 30 or 36 or 42 inch range, that could totally solve my needs!!

Would your projector focus down that close? What is the specific model/manufacturer of your projector?

Thanks so much for adding to the discussion!

I tried it close sitting on my desk about 3 foot from wall it easy to see it and crisp . I would go to sharper Image they sell a different brand but you can see it and if you could use it . In a cabin it throws about a 60 inch picture . I have a AAXA LED Pico Pocket Projector . I paid 79.00 3 years ago refurbished from their site . Works Great Just have to have a speaker to plug into as the internal one is not good if you use a thumb drive or we just use the hdmi off over laptop to the hdmi input it has and use speaker in the laptop

  8. If there is a dvd player why not burn a dvd for what you want to watch. Like 80 cents each but make sure they are -R

I can hdmi off my laptop but we also have a Projector we have to show on wall in cabin or on deck at night :D

Some ships no way you can plug anything into them as they use a special remote and they lock out the way to change inputs

  9. No email. The on line registration gives the option for special requests. We will have our same Butler, the fabulous Ray. Our needs will be fulfilled. [emoji6]

Looked and there is nothing there for something special

Called and they said you have to send a email and tell them what you want

All I wanted was diet ginger ale . No way to do that online . Got a email back in a few hours and said OK

  10. We where on Celebrity two years ago and it was little bottles. Now it is bulk . But what they are charging for the cruises they have to cut corners.

We paid 900.00 or so two years ago 10 days last year we paid 799.00 with liquor package free same 10 days . The food was poor. When they cut prices they take it out of the food costs.

We used to sail them when Chandris owned it was great .We having a hard time sailing mass market

  11. In 2015 and three prior SS cruise I was offered Bulgari shampoo and conditioner and shower gel, or Neutrogena, or one more nice brand I forgot, and nice soap, and they were NOT bolted to the walls. I do not remember any floss, paste, or mouthwash offerings. There was also the usual kleenex, cotton balls, shoe rags ( BTW the butler will shine or clean your shoes), makeup squares.

There was also a "pillow menu" of about ten pillow types you could pick from, as many of each as you need. Bedding choices were also adjustable, and if the mattress is too hard, see if they can flip it to a softer side, or get you a topper.

Use your butler to ask key questions, he is there to help, can help with specialty restaurant reservations, and can bring canapes and room service to have ready when you return from excursions. You can also customize the contents of your fridge.

I liked SS and the small ship atmosphere, but I liked SB and Europa2 food and overall service better so right now I am not booked on another SS cruise but would not rule it out with the right itinerary.

That was a joke bolted to wall as most of the main stream lines do that now. Saves them big money not having to give those in small bottles.

  12. We take our own toothpaste, floss, mouthwash. Personal preference.

And the shampoo, conditioner, and lotion are bolted to the wall :D

The Butler will bring an assortment of Brands.

I can not remember what brands that had but someone that cruises more on Silver Seas will tell you.

Like I said you will be shocked the difference from main stream.

Try to take advantage of what the ship offers. We love having dinner at hot rock under the stars
