  1. Sad, but it seems to be true.

David, you are right about clever marketing ploys.

We use a bank/insurance company that is for military members and their families. Since we cannot name names I am sure you can find it on your own. ;)

If it the same bank/insurance company I do business with I have found their (3rd party company) rates are no better than booking directly with the cruise line.

  2. Does that just apply to MTD.

What I’m getting at is if you have made a specialty dining reservation a few months prior to MTD opening up can you still go in and “plan all”

I understand what you are asking and can't say as I have never booked a speciality reservation before MTD opened up. The first few times I was booking MTD I used the "make a reservation" button and booked day 1 and had to check out before I could book day 2 and the "plan all" option was no longer available to select so I had to do the remainder of the days one day at a time (book then checkout) which was a real pain.

  3. I think Biker had the most recent post describing how to avoid checking out after each day's reservation, but unfortunately I did not save that link.

This is how I did it.

Open cruise planner, click on Dining and Beverage tab, at the bottom there is a option to make a reservation or plan all cruise dining. The plan all is only available if you haven't made any reservations already.

  4. Has anyone heard of the Mobile Passport?

Apparently you can use it in lieu of your physical passport. There are currently only 27 or so airports around the country that it can be used at and 1 cruise terminal, Port Everglades. I dowloaded it last night on my phone since my next cruise will be out of Port Everglades (I'll still have my physical passport handy...just in case...lol).

The CBP website FAQ section says:

Does Mobile Passport Control replace my U.S. passport?

No, travelers must present a valid U.S. or Canadian passport to a CBP officer upon arrival.

  5. Okay, I think I have had enough of the chastising by the cruise critic police. You have successfully accomplished the fact that I will never ASK another question on CC. Once again, I hope you all have a great trip.

What's the point of asking a question if you are not going to accept the answer given? Enjoy your cruise.

  6. So if you exchange $100 USD you would get 86 Euros. If you than exchanged to 86Euros you would get 100.62 CUC. These calculations do not account for the 3% transaction fees. If you factor the fees in you would actually get the following. $100 = 83.42 Euros, 83.42 Euros = 94.67 CUC. Which is better than the 87CUC that you would get going directly from USD to CUC.

  7. My understanding is that the CUC is a closed currency which means it cannot be purchased anywhere other than in Cuba.

Right now I am seeing a US$/Euro conversion of $1.00 to .86, which is no difference between the US/CUC exchange rate. Unless things change dramatically in the US$/Euro conversion rate, it makes no sense to take the extra step, imho.

What is the Euro to CUC exchange rate?
