Get on the cruise lines mailing lists with your Florida address.  You'll get emails in the period following final payment if they are trying to fill the ship.  Then you can follow availability and pricing of those cruises and decide if and when to commit.

Thanks.  I updated Carnival.   Was looking for place to update address on RCCL but could not find. ?

  2. I know I am reviving a very old topic but I figured better than posting a new.   I do remember I had a cruise booked during Katrina but this was before we knew the destruction it was going to cause.   I was booked on a 4 night out of Florida and rather than cancel it because of the hurricane warning they changed it to a 2 day cruise.  They offered people a refund if they wanted to cancel or if you took it you got half off a future cruise (3 or 4 day).

Anyway, I took that cruise and because a lot of people took the refund option they advertised in the Florida newspapers right before for the 2 night cruise for $99.   I do not remember the details

Does anyone know of a thread where people will post last minute Florida resident deals?   I realize the days of walking up to a ship or long gone but I got a great deal on a Norwegian cruise two years ago by booking a week before.

  3. By the way, this was very easy to do on the Getaway. I think I posted pic in another thread. It's not a common tv brand. The existing hdmi cable you can feel if you stick your hand from the bottom. I always put it back before I left room. You just have to make sure when you reconnect you stick it in original jack.

I agree not to waste time in room on cruise watching tv but everyone needs down time and the op wasn't asking for advice on how to best spend his or her time. People on this forum hijack threads all the time preaching unsolicited morals (in this case advice) . Especially threads on sneeking alcohol on board. No one is asking whether or not their souls will be damned if bringing ones own alcohol, they just want to know how to do it. My point is either answer the question or post some place else.

  4. Just got back. It was a breeze. The tv is as pictured above. My cabin was the same except the sofa was closer to balcony and bed was closer to front of cabin which was too close to the closet had to put both night stands between closet and bed to make more space.

Anyway, tv brand is Sole - with an accent on the e. I never heard of it. When I first arrived in cabin slack from the hdmi cable was hanging down from the tv (like a loop). Guessing a previous guest must have used it. Anyway, the tv tilts slightly from side to side at an angle so it can face the bed or the sofa. Without any need to remove the tv, I just tilted it. There were 3 hdmi ports you can feel on the bottom just left of the Sole logo a few inches up. HDMI 1 which was the one used was the right most one looking at the tv. The opening of the hdmi port faces down towards the floor not towards the wall like with most televisions.

It was simple to disconnect and plug in your own cable. Just required a lot of feeling to figure out which was the right port =)

Btw, when you attend a meet and mingle you sign in with your stateroom and cruise critic name. So if NCL wants they can track posts to individual guests. Oh well, using the hdmi port is not the worst thing a guest can do, lol.

  5. Just got back from the Getaway and can confirm the laundry specials. Midweek, on a Sun - Sun cruise, I think it was leave bag for cabin steward by Wednesday noon, $19.99 for bag. You have to make sure you have a bag in cabin, I found one paper bag tucked away in back of closet, called to ask for another which was never delivered - wasn't too impressed with the service on NCL compared to other cruises but thats another discussion.

There is also a special on the first day that I took advantage of. 50% off all pressing. So if you unpack and find things wrinkled and want them nicely pressed, say for formal night its a great deal and prices were very reasonable with discount. Only complaint is that I expected it to be delivered the next evening but it wasn't - I had to ask another cabin steward Tues day morning and it ended up being delivered on Tuesday when they made up the room.

  6. Trying to figure out the brand... so I can download the remote codes before I cruise on Getaway. Can't make it out in this pic. Balcony-Cabin-Deck-11-Norwegian-Breakaway-TravelXena-6.jpg

Someone said it was Solo. Which does not make consumer televisions. Just wanted to confirm

Update: It doesnt matter. I just watched video above so even if you have universal remote, guessing it is locked out. Lifting the tv off the bracket everytime you want to change hdmi seems a little too much trouble. With my luck I won't be able to get it back on the bracket or the cord will go through the hole. If I want to watch something that badly I guess I'll have to deal with the 13" screen of my laptop. I remember when I was a kid and I thought it was great I had a 13" television in my room.

  7. We got off the Jewel on Sunday 2/28. It was a 14 night cruise and starting the 3rd night we had the "laundry special" paper in our cabin every night. It was $19.99. We were in a SC Suite (not haven) and the bag in our closet was a nylon bag and fit one weeks worth of clothes. It was a LOT of clothes. Something like 17 pairs of underwear, 18 tshirts, 8 pairs of shorts, two jeans, socks, pajamas). I couldn't believe how much that bag held. We did see the paper bags in the hallway full and they were about half the size of our bag.

Do you mean that you got a larger nylon bag because you are in a suite, and everyone else in balcony or lower gets a paper bag ?

  8. In the sales brochure on goccl.com we solos are finally included again after being ignored for months. Rates and choices are not good but at least somebody at Carnival HQ may have been hearing all of us solos say "bon voyage" as we go to all the other lines offering great deals....

Most sailings out of LA for $150% occupancy

  9. Exactly! We install RO systems in every property we buy. Our RO systems are typically 5 filter, and they take out nearly EVERYTHING.

We drink water from the tap on ships....or NCL-Water as we like to call it.

Yes, there's a little ankle-swelling, but it goes away within a week of the cruise...and may be related to simply being near salt-water (skin absorption)....or a higher saline content in the food.

    Stephen

    .

True that! There are so many things while cruising on a ship to make your ankles swell - to blame it on the tap water versus the food in any of the restaurants is silly. Think about all that food and alcohol and sun. And just being on the ocean for a week can throw one's balance off. No offense meant :)

I drink bottled water at home, but I usually refill several times from the filter built into the refrig or the filtered water dispenser at work. I try to dispose of the bottle after 3 or 4 uses or if the bottle sits in the car or out at room temp in the heat to reduce the chance of mildew forming. Mildew usually will not form in sealed bottles. With that said I doubt the water sitting sealed on trucks and in stores in those plastic bottles for a long period of time that finally makes it to you drinking it is much better than any ship water. This is an "in general" statement as obviously all bottled waters vary in quality as does ship tap water.

  10. So I have been watching prices the Norwegian Getaway 7 day Western Caribbean out of Miami. VTG is doing a hosted 20s,30s,40s singles cruise on that cruise and have filled up a great part of the ship which was inflating prices. But I have friends in group so I want that cruise Studios have been sold out for a long time.

While supplement is still 200% rates have been falling daily since it is a week from Sunday.

I clicked on inside solo, which about a month ago was $1598 (before taxes), yesterday then it was $1398..... slowly falling until yesterda it was $1058. Figured Id click through and price showed $998, so selected and got an error it was sold out, so then I noticed Oceanview and Balcony guarantees were also much cheaper than displayed before clicking through on the website. Balcony guarantee solo was $1094, for me that was good enough. They have the family promotion so 2, 3 people can get in that cabin for same total price.

I am psyched though to have a solo balcony cabin though for a decent price.

Yeah - I know its not as sweet as though TA deals but it was good for what I was looking for. The other bonus is that because it is a balcony it gets 2 of the NCL freebies instead of 1 - so drinks included!
