  1. This !!! Agreed 200% ...

Not to mention is the brokerage transaction fees, even if it's a $7 per trade.

We own T&E stocks in our portfolio and the ones we brought years ago has more than doubled in recent years and consistently pay us quarterly dividends, enough to subsidize a portion of our annual vacation expenses, whether it's cruising or not, much more than a $100 or $250 OBC, stackable or not (yield in more than 5% annually vs. money market or CD rates)

Consult a FA and investment pro. Choose a product and spend/buy the services wisely as a consumer because it's a good fit and match, not just b/c it has OBC.

No one knows for certain what any stock will actually do. In fact, it been proven time after time a random pick of stocks will match up or bet so called financial experts.

I pick stocks I like based on my feelings of the company. Do I think they have a good product and a good demand for it. I then by and hold and I have no problem getting great returns. I have bought several stocks the experts have said to avoid just to have a stock jump 6x in value.

I bought mine for the OBC and have actually made more a great return just in the increase in value then I would have gotten in a divident paying stock

  2. For me I always use the Wi-Fi calling that Verizon and AT&T offer. I do get the unlimited plan for the ships internet package but then my phone acts exactly the same as if I am at home with no other charges. I can make and receive calls and txt for free just like at home, and my data is not used since it uses the unlimited on the ship.

  3. Asked our butler for a couple of meals delivered to the room. Have snacks delivered. Can’t actually think of anything else I’d want from the Butler.

I don’t ask for things just to use a Butler.

One think I saw another group do while at the Haven pool was to deliver a few pizzas and burgers while they sat by the pool.

One night I wanted some wings. Stopped by to get them myself but they would not give them to me unless we were going to wait for a seat and eat them there. Just called the butler and had them in my room.

Something I asked the first day were menus for all of the restaurants as we planned on staying in our after suite and have dinner outside while the land disappears. Didn't know what every place had so he brought them to our cabin and left them for the whole cruise

  4. Thank you!! Hope to receive an email soon. Did you bid? Are the offers reasonable?

We are in the Haven already and they only offered the owners suite as an upgrade. Range was 750 to 2000 per person. I did bid but not expect to get it. I am pretty sure they often the bidding as a just in case. Every Bliss owner suite shows booked for months in advance and it is also after final payment so I would think it would be rare if one opened up since there are only 2 on the ship

  5. If two adults have the drink package, how strict are they with getting the kids virgin daiquiris, etc
When we were on the Escape last year we both had the UBP and bought the kids the soda package. Several times we all 4 ordered frozen virgin drinks and they never charged the kids for it. I think in many cases if you are ordering as a family of 4 it is easier for them to just ring up as 2 drinks for each adult then it is to charge the fee. Could be wrong but not sure why we never got charged.

  6. Those who are worried about having there passport stolen have to look at both sides. Miss the ship then no ID and stuck in the foreign country until you work it out. Or have passport stolen and get stuck on the ship at the end of the cruise and now have to take another one until fixed... I'll take #2 please..... Just joking on that last option. But really if you think about it if the passport is stolen then it can be replaced. You will still make it home. Taking photo copies of passports will still give all the info needed by a bad guy that they would get anyway.

If I am going swimming I will leave the passport on the ship. But if not it's easy to have a fanny pack with passports and wear my shirt over it. A lot harder to steal and if I only have passport, credit card, and ship card I it then no one usually can tell I have it on

  7. When I comment about the internet package I was talking about NCL's internet package. I had the unlimited Internet when I was on the cruise so I did not have to worry about anything. As far as my carrier is concerned they do not care where I am at as long as I am using WiFi to access the Cellular network. I can be anywhere in the world and there is no roam charges....With that said, my phone will still act as if I am in the USA because all the calls are tunneled right into the carriers network. It just takes the cell tower out of the picture

As far as supporting Calls via WiFi....It has been out for years so unless you have a 4 or 5 year old phone, odds are you will be able to do it. In reality, The phone needs nothing special to do this other then support WiFi and have the code to point it to the carriers network. Like I said in my post the carriers don't advertise this feature and you may need to do a few clicks in your setting to enable it so the best thing to do is just google "enable Wifi calling on <carrier> with <phone model>" just fill in the two pieces of info. This also is great anywhere you have great internet, but have poor or costly cell service

  8. Southwest doesn't fly everywhere, and when we fly it we are paying for those "free bags" in other ways--no assigned seats, boarding cattle calls, etc. And just because I can bring all that luggage does't mean I want to carry my bed with me. I agree with OP. I will not book cabins or hotel rooms that put anyone on a sofa bed on vacation. My vacation and sleep are too valuable to me. YMMV.

True...no airline travels every where, but southwest is also not the only airline without baggage fees in the world. I have never gotten the "Cattle call" bit. Not any different the any other airline I have traveled. They all call you by groups and everyone gets in lines to get on a plan. The un-assigned seats are great especially if you travel last minute. I have never figured out why other airlines don't follow it...their business people who pay top dollar for last minute flights get stuck in center seats because all of the the people who travel for vacation grabbed the good seats months in advance at a cheaper rate That's one reason I always choose southwest for business travel an only look at other lines when southwest doesn't go where or when I need to.

Not to labor the point, just explaining why someone might not have an issue bringing an air mattress. Not saying everyone should.

  9. This. It amazes me that anyone who can't drive to the port would find it acceptable to have to drag an air mattress and pump with them. So much for packing lightly in an era of getting charged by the airlines for every bag.

There are airlines that do not charge for bags. Southwest is my favorite. no assigned seats and no fee for the first two bags. With a family of 4 that means we can bring 400 pounds of luggage for free. Can pack a lot into that amount of space. I have never even come close. Maybe 3 large suitcase and a few small carry ons...so if someone wanted to bring a mattress it would not be bad

  10. The best plan is to turn on airplane mode and leave wifi on. Then set it for wifi calling. That way your phone connects to your carrier via wifi instead of cellular. Your phone then works as it normally does. You can use internet, txt and even make and receive calls from the ship without the roaming charges. My last cruise I was going to close on some property right after I got home and I talked to my realtor a few times during the cruise while at sea. It didn't cost me anything but the regular internet package to do this.

Cellular companies don't advertise the calling via wifi but they should all have it. Just google your phone model and carrier name and it will tell you how to turn it on.

  11. Hi everyone,

We are totally new to Norwegian - looking to cruise on either Getaway or Breakaway next winter. Family of four (kids 18 and 16).

We are looking at the aft-facing Haven suite; I see a living area and a bedroom. It says it sleeps 4 but I don't see 2 extra beds anywhere and the teens can't share a bed (boy/girl).

So are there any suites out there where each kid can sleep separately and not share a sofa bed? I've seen the 2 bdrm suites but trying to keep this under $10K. The other option is to do regular balconies but I think we would all really enjoy the suite perks.

    Any help or advice appreciated!

The two bedroom can work since it sleeps 6. 2 in each bedroom. And the couch turns into a queen size bed.

The aft cabin can work too. The after couch can actually be setup as two twins if I remember correctly. In our case, they where side by side but the cabin steward made it like two twins. By what I remember the bed is made up by taking the cushion from the couch and that is one twin. Then then just pull out the lower half as the second. Since the cushion is one bed it could really be moved around a bit so they are not right next to each other. 20170604_210624.thumb.jpg.f5e287cdcea358c129bb1080f56f705a.jpg

  12. I understand what you’re sayimg but it’s ridiculous. It would mean that only I would have Haven access and my husband wouldn’t, when in reality we are staying in the Haven suite together and only separate on paper. The main reason I want the aft suite is because it has a separate bedroom, but we both deserve to get the perks that go with it, not just one of us just because they won’t let us list two 16 year olds in the room next to us without an adult. Also why would I have to squeeze 4 people into the room to all get access? I’m actually paying Norwegian more money by getting the extra balcony cabin next to it. So the rules are saying 4 of us can have access if we stay together in the aft, but only 2 can have it if I spend another $4500 for the balcony next to it. Makes no sense. Yes I could go for the 2 bedroom Haven suite, but I get sea sick if I’m forward and prefer aft. Plus the 2 bedroom has a teeny balcony.
Look at it this way too. If just the 4 of you sail, yes they get more money from you, however if they get you to pack into one cabin then they may get less from you however they will make it up by having more people on board that they can sell things like drink and dining packages, excursions, photos... Ect

  13. Any gambling system is setup for the house to win. Be it computer controlled or something as simple as you throwing dice on a crash table. It is all based on odds. Just like every slot machine today is actually electronic. You press a button or pull the handle and the choice has already been made. The machine has picked a random number and every number is set to a certain spin setting. It can be as simple as a 1 in 1,000,000 and the number 1,000,000 is the jackpot. May numbers 1-500 are a certain losing spin combo 501-1000 another losing combo... Ect then maybe 10,001-10100 wins a small p

Win. So over time the odds are set. Is it possible for two jackpots to be back to back. Yup but that would be extremely rare.

All in all it is random but the odds are always for the house

  14. They are not in the “Haven” area. You the aft cabins are a hike and the forward cabins you would just go up or down the stairs to get to the Haven area.

The aft haven cabins on the escape was not that bad. Maybe a two min walk at the most from the aft cabin to the Haven proper.

Figure if the walk was going to be too much I could have the butler deliver what ever I needed. Only need to go to the Haven proper to lay out or swim in the Haven pool.

If we wanted a quick bite the buffet was right above us so it was a shorter walk then those in the Haven.

  15. Never had that experience on any of our many cruises out of Miami. 5 to 10 minutes in the private Haven check in room, then straight onto the ship every time.
I think the big difference is we got to the terminal before it was even open. We were in line just outside the doors when security opened. So we still had atleast a 90 min wait after passing security before the first people started to board. They start moving people upstairs so the small room doesn't get crowded.

  16. When we went last summer on the escape we started in the small room. But we're only in there for maybe 15 minutes. After that they escorted us up stairs to a seating g area right next to the terminal b and c divider still not a lot of seating area and people started overflowing into the regular seating area. Really no one was watching and anyone could have been in that upstairs area. When boarding started everyone in the public area stood up first and they then started filtering the Haven guests from the rest. Since we got there early we where in the Haven seating area who were the last of the Haven people to board

  17. You could also be like my wife and I. We were on a carnival cruise may years ago when they only had set dining times. We had a table and another couple was assigned to it as well. After the first night we never saw them again and we had the table to ourselves. Only assume that they at at the buffet as there were no other places to eat

  18. Sounds like while you do have mobility issues, you don't always have a critical need for accessible accommodations at all times. Lucky, lucky you. Wish we were all in that position!

Speaking as someone who does not have any choice or option when it comes to utilizing special accommodations, I still believe the kindest and most considerate folks will not try to benefit at the expense of those like me. It's not just a matter of "sucking it up" and adjusting. But I get that you don't understand since it sounds like you still have some mobility - which is great to hear.

True there are days I can walk other days it can be a challenge to go from a bed to a wheelchair. It can change overnight or as quickly as 30 mins to go from walking to not being able to move. I never know when it may hit. But even when I am at my worst and I am I a wheelchair I still try to be normal.... Aka my point about only parking in a handicap spot if there is something like a huge incline. If it is flat or close to it then how much harder is it for me to roll several parking spots compared to someone walking. With power chairs I would say I have it even easier. Unless the lot is packed I can park father away and no one is around me and can then get out just as easily. When I was younger I had manual chairs and again I could fly on flat surfaces. Even when on crutches at times I could move faster then many able body people. The whole trick was learning how to adapt and I am glad I learned that at an early age. Even today that age has taken affect in addition to my other challenges I had since birth, I still do everything I can to be as normal as possible and not ask for anything that is not really required. Which is also the reason I feel about a handicap room. I am lucky I can cruise others can not and if I only have the choice of cabins that will not work for me then so be it.. I will not go one it and pick another date or even do some other travel.

  19. For sure, my comments weren't directed at the OP - I posted earlier in the thread to thank her for her kindness and consideration! However, there are others who posted here the equivalent of "I'll book whatever room I want because I can!!" To those folks, let's hope the shoe is never on the other foot. (I can personally say that I "never thought it could happen to me" - but fate had another plan.)
Both my wife and myself have mobility issues. I do have issues with those who use handicap parking in which they are not intitled to but cabins are a whole different thing.

Parking spots are not reserved except for handicap in most cases. That is why it is reserved.

Cabins are another case. I look at it that if I need a handicap room then I book out far enough in advance to make sure I get it. To me it is no different then a family on a budget who needs a cheap room that can hold x number of people. Both groups have a need and if not met cannot go on the cruise if not met.

So I do have the shoe on the other foot to say and I say if the cabin is available go for it no matter what. I grew up with challenges all my life. A lot of things I could not do that other able body people could and you learn to adapt. I do not want special treatment unless it is really needed. In fact, most cases I do not even use my handicap parking privileges unless there are a ton of spaces open or I have a challenge like a very steep grade to tackle if I park somewhere else. I just want to be treated like anyone else and if I do not get a cabin I want then so be it.
