  1. she might be a little busy to do one but it would be great...comparison to cruise life would be stark

last time I stayed in depot I slept on an old hospital bed that was way to short (I am 6'4')

it was winter and the single pane windows leaked like crazy

do not remember the cafeteria food so it was not great nor life threatening but definately not an attraction

full contact floor hockey a step up from shuffleboard though

pass on my good wishes to her

  2. topguy is right...rome is an easy do on your own...some people love having a guide..I prefer doing my own thing.

previously posted the link to this useful page

    http://www.kenandpene.com/ROME%20ON%20YOUR%20OWN.htm

the time you have in rome is limited so you can only pick your top todos. if you want the vatican museum that is going to take most of your day.

as to Venice and Barcelona..do a search on these boards for "venice hotel" and "barcelona hotel". lots of good advise. we stayed on the lido which was much cheaper and had a view of St Marks across the lagoon. lots of people stay near the piazzale roma in venice...can reach it by bus from the airport (a few euros as opposed to 70 for a water taxi and I think 12 euro for the vaparetto water bus. you are then right where the people mover to the port is. within walking distance to st marks etc. or get a vaparetto pass for the length of your stay.

in barcelona we stayed at the Hotel Oriente on Las Ramblas..old hotel but nice. breakfast included. had triple pane windows or something as the street noise was ok.

watch for pickpockets in Barcelona and rome

    have a great trip

  3. so your review is almost over..so it occurs to me that Tracy should be doing one of depot...I know she is a little busy..but it would be a service to recruits from now on

I especially would like to see a photo of the garbage can over the recruits head..or are they still allowed to do that

I have video of my wife's cousin grad at depot..hearing the sgt yelling at his boneheads on their final parade is really funny...but I am sure there are people who if they heard it would think he was just mean

anyhow, thanks for the review...good wishes to Tracy and both of you stay safe

  4. dubrovnic...main thing is to walk the walls..can do this on your own easily..scared the hell out of me as I have a fear of heigts but well worth it

santorini...we have been there a couple of times..always have taken the gondola up and walked the steps down...linle ups to come down were insane last time as a huge ship was in port with usl...lots on donkey poo on the walk down but only way to take pictures..we walked about half way to oi (spelling?) . we were alone a lot of the time. great pix and a good day. people go to the smaller towns to avoid the crowds but everybody doing that so just enjoy the main town. and the views.

naples..either go to the museum in naples or take a ferry to capri. 2 ferry ports in naples. we took one from next to our cruise ship..one on the way back dropped us off a mile from the first one..check which port your ferry goes to

rome..easy to do on your own..birg ticket on the train..about an hour in to rome...
