  1. Hi,

We sailed Anthem for the holidays last year. It is currently more expensive than the NCLBreakaway holiday cruise.

We are turned off from the Breakaway due to the lack ofentertainment since there are only 2 shows (doesn’t seem like any fly-on acts)plus second city and piano bar and since there are limited indoor spaces for awinter sailing.

How different will the Anthem holiday cruise be this yearfrom last? Same production shows andholiday show? Same tribute band and Namethat Tune show? What kind of fly-onentertainment can we expect (how many acts) on an 8 night cruise?

    Thank you.

  2. Hi,

We are considering a cruise on the Breakaway in December.

After reviewing some Freestyle Dailies, I was very surprised to see very little professional entertainment and am now hesitant on booking a cruise compared to the Anthem of the Seas. On that Royal Caribbean cruise, we had - 3 house bands + soloists, 3 production shows, 2 comedy shows with two different comedians, cover band (Led Zeplin for our cruise) and a vantriloqust.

It looks like there are a ton of game shows and dance parties each night with a DJ. But we look forward to a different professional form of entertainment each night. On Royal Caribbean, we've looked forward 2-3 production shows (on Breakaway it looks like Burn the Floor and Rock of Ages). For the other 5 nights of a 7 night cruise, there are usually 3 fly-on acts - juggler, vantriloquist, cover band in the main theater (besides the regular house bands throughout the ship).

On our last NCL cruise 7 years ago aboard the NCL Dawn, we enjoyed a magician and hypnotist.

On Breakaway it doesn't look like there are fly-on type forms of professional entertainment. Aside from the deck parties and live music (dueling pianos) that we like to do after a professional show, are there any special forms of entertainment unique to each cruise on the Breakaway? Eepecially for repeat cruisers to change things up, but also to do after dinner before the deck party, dueling pianos or nightclub.

Second City and the Welcome Aboard show would fill 3 nights of unique entertainment, but what about the other 4 nights on a 7 night cruise? (I know Freestyle cruising doesn't align entertainment with particular nights, but just trying to see if there are other unique forms of inclusive entertainment on a 7 night cruise besides Second City and dueling pianos).

    Thanks!

  3. Hi All,

We are considering another cruise on the Anthem and are wondering if anyone knows if Synergy will be back onboard this fall/winter?

Out of 10+ cruises, they are the most fun and energetic band and we'd love to cruise with them. Does anyone know if they will be back onboard the Anthem this holiday season?

Also - does anyone know if the Anthem of the Seas still has tribute bands for 1-2 nights a sailing?

  4. Hi all,

We've cruised all major cruise lines, but most of our recent cruises have been on Royal Caribbean. We've celebrated the holidays or new years aboard Royal Caribbean for the past 4 years.

We are contemplating changing things up this year and trying a cruise aboard the Breakaway. Last year for the holidays, we cruised on the Anthem of the Seas, and it was our favorite cruise to date.

I know NCL has freestyle dining and cruising, but what can we expect aboard the Breakaway? Has anyone been on both the Anthem of the Seas and NCL Breakaway for the holidays for comparison purposes?

NCL seems to have the dueling piano bar, second city comedy and Rock of Ages. How is the live music? Is there anything for the 18+ crowd (young adults / early 20's) to do? RCL has a nightly gathering for this age group and then they usually met up at the nightclub.

    A few other questions:

-Does NCL do anything special during a Christmas sailing?

-What is there to do for the first and last day and a half? The Anthem of the Seas had an indoor pool and 270 lounge. What kind of activities does NCL offer for the beginning and end of the trip?

-The itinerary is awful (GSC, Nassau and Orlando). We'd probably only get off at the private island and Nassau and would be cruising for the convenience and for a nice family trip. How has the weather been at these islands during this time of year? Does the ship more often than not miss Great Stirip Cay in the winter?

-Is there any fly on entertainment (special shows / comedy / vantriloquist / anything else besides the broadway-style shows)?

-How is the food in the included dining venues?

-What kind of crowd should we expect (families)? Heavy New York / New Jersey crowd similar to the Anthem of the Seas?

    Thank you very much.

  6. Thanks for the great review! Any chance you can check if Synergy band with Katrina plans to return to the Anthem? They were the best band we've seen perform on a ship.

Also, if you pass by the Solarium bar, would you be able to check if Stephanie works there. There is one in particular who went above and beyond and I'd love to give her a shoutout to Royal Caribbean. I Think her name was Stephanie but I can't find where I wrote her name down and want to confirm.

Enjoy the rest of your cruise.

  7. Does anyone have any insight into whether there will be a college spring break type cruise on this sailing? Or do most target the ships fro Miami and Fort Lauderdale that are generally known for their shorter sailings?

Also - any recommendations on things to do in such a short period of time on the Epic?

    Thanks!
