  1. I was on the Radiance last June to Alaska. Loved it. It was my 2nd time to do Northbound, beginning in Vancouver and ending basically Anchorage. What I liked the most was after all the beautiful places, the cruise last place to see is the Hubbard Glacier. Ending the trip on a high note for sure.

I will tell you that 99% of flights from Anchorage take off late at night. Makes for a long day, once we rented a local hotel for the day and slept, ate etc.

Enjoy your trip. If you are there for the Summer Solstice you are in for a treat. So much daylight, hard to force yourself to go to bed at a normal hour.

  2. I love unpacking once. I love the sound and sight of the sea. (I live in landlocked Missouri) I enjoy all the activities that are offered or taking a nap. There are always going to be a few hiccups along the way. Meeting new people. Where else can you start a conversation by saying "Where are you from" and inviting people to share a table. I feel spoiled on board.

My 18th Cruise is this fall!

  3. I was on the Oasis a few years ago. It never felt as big as it is. Our cabin was on the same floor as Central Park so it was very easy to go from end to end of the ship and down or up as it may be! The only time it felt crowded was on embarkation and disembarkation. There is really something for everyone to do. Yes you do need to schedule some things in advance, ie the shows, comedy club etc. It is possible to wait in line in case there are extra seats. We truly only scheduled the main theater show and the ice show. You will have a fantastic time! (I'm headed on the Symphony this fall which is huge too, will let you know how that one is!)

  4. I sailed on her a year ago, immediately after dry dock. Beautiful ship, food was great. I like it because the ship is big enough for everybody of any age to enjoy. A favorite is always to go to the Royal Promenade and people watch while having a drink or a snack. As others have said, there will always be a little something that may go amiss but all in all, a fantastic time will be had by all. Enjoy your trip!

  5. I have not been on Cruise Critic much lately, I don't have another cruise coming up till October, grrrr. I am loving your post and clearly have missed out. You need to write a book or something. You are a hoot. So, I will look forward to the rest of this review. I dream of doing a solo cruise someday, actually it is my intention to retire to a cruise ship, but that requires more $$ than I have! I will therefore live vicariously through you on every cruise you take!

  6. This morning when I arrived at work I asked where the D+ priority boarding was. Unfortunately it was a mess and I had to ride in an elevator that was not only for D+ employees. I earned this status, and this started my whole work day off wrong. I'm going to ask for some additional credit as reparations.

I did ask to see another employee's ID to see if they were allowed to use the coffee machine. They looked at me funny and refused to show me their ID. I intend to report this when I see the captain.

You guys are all making me giggle on a nice Sunday Morning (at work). Yeah, I'm not supposed to be online, oh well. Maybe my status will make my boss not peeved at me? I beat her in Seniority anyway!

  7. I was on the Liberty of the Seas in Feb 2017 during the Super Bowl. They showed the game in Studio B as well. There were hot dogs and hamburgers, also 2 cakes made in the Teams colors. There were no commercials. We had a great time. Keep in mind the Patriots were losing badly at one point during the game. Most of the fans left. Then the Falcons fell apart. It was great fun. They told us they couldn't have the game on by the pool and have all the food up there. Game was also shown in Several bars and Casino.

    Enjoy your Cruise.

  8. I got back 2 weeks ago and have also been there in Sept. As others have said, layers are the key. I wore a long sleeved shirt under a short sleeved one in port a lot. Plus either a fleece jacket or had a waterproof lined one as well. Gloves and hat just in case. Jeans were worn every day). Much lower key cruise onboard than usual Caribbean cruises. I did NOT need extra sweaters, very light weight gauzy type shirts. I didn't use waterproof shoes either. If you hike, be prepared. I would go back tomorrow if I could!

  9. I just got off the Radiance on Friday. I have always taken an extension cord and small power strip w/o any problems. I sleep w CPAP and the power cord the ship provided sparked when I tried to use it.

Another helpful hint: since you have 2 regular and 2 foreign outlets, I brought a foreign power adapter. Worked better than the existing outlets.

  10. As I'm sure you know by now the medical emergency was they needed to fly somebody to Juneau. Rather unusual on this cruise that we had three separate emergencies between the private plane that went down, everybody survived I believe. Sombody was taken off in an ambulance in Ketchikan. It's been a fantastic trip, however I feel bad for all the people that were involved in these incidents.

  11. I am the original poster of this thread. Our plane from Kansas City left 45 min late due to a mechanical issue before it ever got to us. Delta had already rebooked us for 2000 tonight to Vancouver. Still got our First Class Sears but not together, it's ok. We are hanging out in Delta Sky Club till this evening. It's all good. Thanks for your kind thoughts and advice everyone. I will be ever vigilent next time.😊 we never would have made that earlier flight due to changing concourses.

  12. Shark bites gummy candy, goldfish crackers. Tide pen or shout wipes. Lanyard. I throw in a couple of drink umbrellas. Glow in dark bracelets from dollar store. May be easy to find each other? That being said, I have taken those onboard and never used them, I forget about them. Strong magnetic hooks for walls.
