  1. Hola all!

Mysty: Valle de Guadalupe is area of prime vineyards in Baja California. I am familiar with LA Cetto wines. Hopefully, LCBO will import more from MEX that you can try. I am (embarrassed to say) a white wine drinker who is now in love with Spain's Rueda Verdejo!

    Have a great day!

  2. I remember looking like the Michelin Man!

Mysty, you mentioned that I was in Canada for Centennial year. I was and it was exciting. We were in Halifax and navy ships and tall ships from all over the world came for a sail past. Then many of the ships sailed to Montreal for Expo. I flew to MTL and met my DH on the ship for Expo festivities. There were lots of events and parties!! The Queen Mother came to Halifax and my DH flew her around the Maritimes and flew her to NFLD for some salmon fishing. Good memories.....

  3. I wish I was adept enough to post pics.....do Google catarinas, they are special. I have one in my foyer that is 3 ft. high made of talavera. She has calla lilies on her hat, her dress is decorated with flowers and birds. She had a silk purse and lovely jewelry. I named her Iris after arco iris (rainbow). I leave her there all year long.

  4. According to what we are told, the festival began 2500 years ago and was practiced by the Aztecs. When the Spanish conquistadores arrived, the friars merged the practice with All Souls Day as a way to evangelize the indigenous population. Now, deceased children are remembered on 1 Nov. and deceased family and friends are remembered on Nov. 2. Relatives and friends go to graveyards, clean up and decorate the sites with marigolds, bring sweets, favorite foods of the departed, and drinks. Some families stay overnight, or even two nights, remembering and celebrating the lives of their loved ones. There are parades and music.

People set up altars in their homes with photos, flowers, sugared "dead heads", catarinas (skeleton figures). (Even I do this!)

The most famous area to experience the festivities is on the island of Janitzio in Lake Patzcuaro Michoacan. People from all over the world come for this one.

  5. Good morning. I just read the article, thanks Jeff. Thank you for your kind words, Cam! The article mentioned civil disobedience and my main concerns are things like baggage handling and longshoremen duties. Plus road closures. I'm staying at Condes de Barcelona in Eixample. I stayed in that area last year. Centrally located, as you probably know.....but it is a matter of getting to and from, isn't it?

So, buen dia, quien sabe? and que sera!

  6. Hear, hear Jeff for your comments regarding today's cabin crews. Back in the day, we would refuse to board inebriated passengers and would turn them over to the station agents. The really bad ones went to jail.

I would very much miss my wine on the way to Europe and back. It's a celebratory thing!

Very concerned about the situation in Catalonia. TTS-es and I embark in BCN in two weeks.

  7. Loved the posts and Jeff's cartoon (which is also sad!). Regarding your ages...You are all younger than me and I don't feel old! Some days I am amazed that I am this age. To me, age is a state of mind and my mind has not atrophied yet...so as long as I feel like this, I'll venture out, smell the roses and have a hell of a good time.....On that not, have a great day my Cooler friends!...Penny
