Happy Thanksgiving to all! Just got our congratulations email that our bid was accepted for a GS with large balcony.   Very excited.

Quick question or two...do we get updated "luggage tags" or just use the old ones?  Can we safely assume it's ok to arrive earlier for check in now (had 11am, probably won't be too far off from that).

Something else...I prepaid the gratuities.   Will I need to pay the upgraded gratuities difference?

You will get updated cruise documents with new tags, yes you can arrive when you want, and yes, you'll be billed the upgraded gratuities BUT I'm not sure if they simply offset it from the bid or not - I couldn't figure it out when we got the upgrade on our cruise last month but my updated docs showed I had paid the correct gratuities so no idea on that one!

    Congrats though, enjoy!!

We had no problems eating at the beach club, they only brought the vegan starters (double portion, which wasn't needed since it's a lot of food) and a vegan burger with grilled veggies and the fries.  The bun fell apart but it was all really good!

So it's ok to add more people to the suite lounge/happy hour and Coastal Kitchen, but not ok to toss in the wifi?  That's pretty messed up, at least in my opinion.  I still think it's wrong that they don't include wifi with all full suites across the fleet.

Agreed, especially on ships that don't have CK and a JS doesn't give you suite lounge access.  The cost even on those ships between balcony and JS is significant enough wifi wouldn't break the bank at all.

I made reservations in the app for 7:45 each evening (that was earliest I could get except one night at 6:30). We plan to go sooner than that to see if we can get seated closer to 7. I have no idea if it’ll work though!

It works, they also have a line for those with reservations - use it even if you're trying for an earlier/later time but have a reservation for an alternate time since they just pull you up and seat you then!  We had no issue on Mariner doing this.

We sailed 10\1 on Oasis and the meet and greet was fun, I only stopped by but it was fun, I was really active on the group in general, so I actually got recognized by people randomly throughout the cruise which was both funny and a bit weird, lol.  We had a group slot pull, as well and a few other things scheduled throughout the week.

I had every intention of doing the sail away meet and greet but we landed at Playmakers and met a great couple we were having fun chatting and getting to know.  I always plan such activities loosely, because some days they work and some days they don't.  I had been active in the group so was sorry not to meet people but it was one of our best cruises so no regrets!  I was happy not to be recognized though, I am not that memorable I don't think but my husband still laughs about the time we were on a cruise many moons ago and started talking to a group near us at Quest and when they put 2 and 2 together they said "YOU'RE ShillyShally?"  No idea what reputation I had to them but my husband isn't buying that story either lol!

FB groups have taken over- they are MUCH bigger than any current Roll call on this page, and they are able to schedule events and activities right on the group. My last cruise had over 1000 people on the page, and a meet and greet on day 1 had at least a few hundred of them pop up for at least a minute or two.

Yep, they had a few meet ups scheduled for our last cruise on the FB group.  I thought I might even go, until relaxing and thinking about doing anything other was not of interest 🙂  But reports were those that went had a great time!

If that's one I remember she was Mad, didn't want him to Benefit. She went on and on about it

Ha, like knowing an ex can get social security on your benefit if they qualify.  Doesn't impact the benefit for the primary person but I've talked many off the ledge who were mad about it!

I purchased it with the expectation that I will receive 12 1L bottle of Evian.  If I see 12 bottles of 500ml off brand water in the cabin I'll be off to GS for a refund.  That isn't what I ordered or what they marketed. There is no fine print that indicates they can substitute a lesser quantity which the typical off brand bottles would be.

I'm going to screen shot it too and will do the same.  I'm hopefully optimistic Mariner was just running through current quantity but $19.99 for small bottles was a money maker for them!

The worst RoyalUP bid that we won was the first one that we bid on - upgrade from a JS to our first GS. The problem wasn't that the cabin was in a bad location (it was actually in a great location), but that DW fell in love with GS.😱

It has been the suite life ever since😇

HAHAHAHA, can totally relate - this was us last cruise, and now I'm suite (GS or higher) or bust!

We got an UpBid on Liberty to a OS for the Oct 5th Canada N/E itinerary...My bid was very low but the original price point was was over 15k (and all were still available 2 weeks before sail date) we were all in at just a bit over 4k.

This is my hope for next fall - we have a suite gty but expect of course to land a JS, so hoping we can Royal Up to GS or higher since right now even picking our own cabin is $4k higher and a GS $7.5k higher, heck even the suite gty is $2.4k higher than when we booked!

Thanks for this. That's about the cheapest it gets in the cruise planner (not the gift section).  I purchased the 12 pack of 1L bottles for $22.99 (plus grat).  The gift section has it for $19.99 but I can't select my particular sailing.  I'm happy with the $3 difference and knowing I'll have the waters.

I purchased the 12 pack for our next cruise too in the planner instead of gifts to hopefully get Evian liter bottles instead of the smaller off-brand ones.  I could manage to drink those 2 cases posted above, I drink a lot of water!  On a cruise both with and without vodka added 🙂

Taking my grand daughter and her Mom on a cruise that just goes to Ensanada , Do we need anything in writing from the Dad ? They are married and he can't go as he will be working. Thanks

It's worth bringing something in writing and notarized where he acknowledges and signs that he is aware of the travel.  They may never ask but if they did it can get sticky quickly!

Like all classes there are the plus’s and minus’s.

    Love:

    The 270 lounge

    Fantastic Solarium

Lots of music and music venues

A few new novelty experiences like iFly, Northstar and bumper cars

    Reasonable connection to the sea

    Don’t love:

    Lack of ice rink

    Smaller Promenade area

Lack of one beautiful MDR, instead it’s chopped up into four themed MDR’s all serving the same menu.  (they fixed this with Quantum Ultra class)

Overall we would sail Quantum class again. It has enough pluses to keep us happy.

Thank you!! Appreciate you sharing - I expect I’ll have a similar view should we sail but many of the positives definitely sound appealing!

Very interesting, looking at your signature, we've sailed identical ships.  (except swap Mariner with the two Quantum ships we've done.)  Almost all ships the same with the majority being Freedom and Voyager class.  👍    👍    👍

I'd like to try Quantum class but haven't had one align right yet!

Couldn't agree more.  While I like the Oasis class for numerous reasons, to me, the biggest drawback is the connection and views to the ocean.  This is one thing the Voyager and Freedom classes excel at.

Agree, it's why I prefer the Voyager and Freedom classes.  I'll certainly sail the Oasis class or higher in the future but likely only if booking the whole family.

it wasn't that many years ago that Liberty was the largest cruise ship in the world

16 years 🙂  I sailed on one of her first few weeks in 2007 and 3 more times since.  5th time planned for next year and can't wait to see her again!
