like most people I run the numbers to decide what, if any, package to buy on each cruise. They just don’t make it very easy (or reasonably priced) when the 2 people in the cabin have completely different preferences. I drink soda (a lot) and maybe a glass of cheap wine at dinner.  The other half has bottled water, maybe a fancy tea or two per cruise and an equally cheap wine at dinner. Luckily we can get the wine free as part of the Elite HH.

You can get the bottled water and sodas as part of the Elite HH, too. Just put them in your fridge and drink the next day.

I'm going to piggy back on this thread--best way to get to Brightline after a cruise? I'm assuming Uber is probably the easiest (especially since we got a $10 Uber voucher for booking with Brightline!). Heading to Orlando for a Disney World family reunion after our Panama Canal cruise.

We usually take a cab post-cruise because it can be a little messy searching for a specific Uber among all of the Ubers. The cabs are right there waiting; just jump in the next one.

But this is a split infinitive.  The 'such as' refers to 'Electrical devices' it does not refer to 'surge protectors such as small fans'.  They are ok if the electrical device does not have a surge protector.

So, it should say, "What items are prohibited on board Holland America Line cruises?"   "Electrical devices, such as small fans, multi plug box outlets/adaptors etc, which have surge protection.

note the comma after 'electrical devices' and the comma after 'etc'.

This isn't a split infinitive. That's something like "To boldly go where no man has gone before."

Meanwhile, "electrical devices with surge protectors" is perfectly worded. The kind of devices is described by the prepositional phrase, then examples are provided just in case.

  4. We did a partial trip on Princess, so not exact comparison, but we found it satisfying. We'd like to do a full transit sometime, but work gets in the way. Probably on that cruise, we did a private excursion with Mr. Emerald in Cartegena; doing a search today, I don't see information about tours on his website, but you could contact him and ask.

You can have dinner in any of the four MDRs. You can order any of the specials from any of the MDRs in each MDR. No need for reservations; if you're hungry, show up.

You don't understand. Disembarking after a cruise segment and then having ti recheck in, getting a new sea pass card, and re-embarking does resolver any issues. Weather what the OP describes aa being relevant to the Jines Act is a different issue. re

It's the PVSA, not the Jones Act, and the issue is a single ship transporting a passenger from one U.S. port to another without a distant foreign port. The number of consecutive cruises does not matter.

We cruised hawaii to California last year, our “distant foreign port” must have been mexico. Not arguing, but how is that different than vancouver canada?

What was the specific itinerary? Mexico is not a distant foreign port, either.

Is it possible to choose the menu items from the other restaurants, eg: sitting in Cosmo, can you choose menu items form Cyprus?  If so, do you have to ask the waiter for the menu for all 4 MDRs?

Yes and yes, or you can use the app.

I've seen on both the Brightline and Princess websites that you can check you bags and they will deliver to the ship.  I have called both Brightline and Princess and no one seems to know about this. Does anyone know if this is possible?

The Brightline train I took to Port Everglades in May for a TA on the Caribbean Princess was wrapped in the Princess logo, and the bag check area had a sign referring to the luggage program. I didn't try it because I wanted to ensure my bag made it on the ship (for a non-TA, I might have tried it). So it exists, but I don't know more. Sorry.

At Miami Airport, you  leave the rental car center on a train or on public roads. If you choose to take the Don Shula Expressway instead of local roads, you will need some kind of Sun Pass or the rental car company's transponder.

At Orlando airport, I don't think you can get very far without getting on one of the toll roads. They are hard to avoid.

Since they removed the toll plaza at the airport, it's toll-free to get to Sand Lake Rd., which would take one to I-4. Going north on Semoran is also simple. However, generally, it's worth it (at least to me) to pay a few bucks for the toll roads. Especially on vacation.

Is there the same thing to use for rental car in Miami instead of MCO? I googled it, and didn't see anything, just making sure I didn't miss it. We do not have tolls where we live so don't have the EZ Pass or anything like that.

No, the VTP is just at MCO. You can buy a SunPass transponder on Amazon.

  11. 1. Men must wear long pants.

    2. Drink package good around ship. Streaming means you can theoretically stream shows from your phone/device (uses more bandwidth).

    3. Anytime. Luminae doesn't take reservations.

    4. Yes

    5. No

  12. Arriving passengers aren't allowed into the port before around 10 a.m., if memory serves. Disembarking passengers will still be picking up their luggage and using porters at 8 a.m.

From the port's website: Arriving cruise guests are reminded to adhere to the boarding time assigned by your cruise line. Please know that all terminal parking garages and surface lots do not open before 10 AM for embarking passengers.

  13. If you ever plan to ride Brightline again, you can book now, and then cancel and rebook for the credit if the price decreases. You won't get a refund, but the credit amount will be there for the next trip. I'd probably book separate trips so you can cancel just the one.

You are the exception. Even my 92 year old father communicates via text and gets impatient if you don't reply right a way.

My 80-year-old mother doesn't have a cell phone. I have one, but maybe 10 people have the number. I don't want bills via text. E-mail is fine.

Don't assume your experience is identical to others'.
