  1. I absolutely LOVE the Crepe Ballon Rouge in Murano. It's a crepe covering vanilla ice cream, covered with sauteed strawberries in balsamic.

    I'm drooling thinking about it!

Ditto! Hard to beat that one.

  2. Hanging out on my aft balcony a pungent smell wafted up. A young man was smoking a joint a couple of balconies below. He saw me see him and he asked me if I would like to come join him. I smiled and politely refused.

    I love cruising.

I got invited to a guys cabin that I had just met on the ship, when we got there he walked out onto the balcony and fired up a bowl. Not what I was expecting.

Had another interesting encounter on my own balcony. One morning I got up early on a sea day and was sitting buck naked on my balcony. Got that weird feeling and looked up to catch the 80+ year old gal next door peering around the balcony divider. Hope she wasn't disappointed:rolleyes:

Best one was on the Century during a NZ/Australia cruise. My wife and young daughter (about 9) had one cabin and I had the other with our middle daughter. Of course once on the ship we exchanged key cards. Well, one afternoon me and the wife sneak off for some "afternoon delight". Right in the middle of it the door flies open and the little one starts yelling "ewe, mom and dad are doing the nasty" then runs off leaving the door jammed open with my bare backside up in the air in full view of everyone walking past. Found out those deadbolts are not deadbolts if you have a key card!

  3. We had a very large, very drunk man grab one of the guys in our group in the club. Security had to be called and it got a little ugly. While security is trying to reason with him (yea good luck) he pulls out his wallet and starts throwing money at them saying I pay your salary....etc. It was quite uncomfortable the rest of the cruise when we ran into him. Same cruise, we have an older gent, I mean creeper in a motor scooter following our wives around. He would show up to the lounge at night and roll up to the dance floor and video tape them dancing with his phone. After a few nights one of the guys told him off (probably told him if he did it again he would throw him overboard).

  4. BUT....you can always leave them a buck. Maybe it is just me but I DO NOT TRUST the cruise line bean counters when it comes to the fair distribution of so the $$$ they collect !!!!

I also find that tipping a buck or two now and again ensures the bar staff takes care of me just that little bit better. And tipping the pool waiters also ensures they check on you more than once a day. Take a stack of one dollar bills, hand a few out and watch the change!

  5. 36% tip? That's not how percentages work :-/

    That's "aleternate" math!

The tip is added to the drink packages when you buy or upgrade them and it's 18%. You don't need to worry about any tipping if you have a drink package.

If you buy a drink an 18% tip is added (same as nearly every other cruise line).

  6. I've sailed Concierge class once and have two more booked. The only reason I booked it again is the price was only about $20-$50 more than the regular balcony cabin we would book. There's nothing to hate about Concierge, I just don't feel there is much value to it, so if the price is significantly higher than a veranda I wont book it. On the Pacific Coastal I recently booked I got Aqua for less than concierge. Now that's a way better value!

I actually prefer the buffet to the MDR for embarkation lunch so for me that perk isnt a perk, But I hear it's pretty good.

The free bottle of champagne is really only good to make mimosas (cheap bubbly, probably about $6 retail cost in a off ship store). I guess if you like cheap bubbly that's another plus.

The canapes are pretty useless. 4 tiny bites of food. meh....

Better cabin locations, ok yea that's worth a few bucks.

pillow menu. ok I guess if you need a fancy pillow that's a plus

binoculars and better umbrella, might be handy on an Alaska cruise.

Extra CC point a definite plus.

The other trinkets are more of that fluff.

Everyone has their own perception of value. You an you alone have to decide what the value of the concierge perks are.

  7. We did a Tulum excursion from Cozomel. It's a 45 minute ferry to the mainland then about an hour on a bus to Tulum. Tulum is great, lots of very nice ruins. I don't recall how long we were there, but I'de say 2 or 3 hours. It seemed like plenty of time though.

  8. Sounds like you will have a great time. Celebrity is much more quiet than RCL or NCL. The food in Luminae (the suite restaurant) is fantastic. You should enjoy the Persian Garden if you want peace and quiet. There are a couple of pools but there are no slides or any funs stuff like that. Just a pool. Make sure you take advantage of the suite perks like Michaels club, the Persian garden and of course Luminae (and your butler). The Sunset bar on the back of the ship is a great spot to hang out in the evening before dinner.

We are on 2 weeks before you, I will try not to drink all the wine:D

  9. Oh we enjoyed the excursion, I just thought the actual catamaran ride was the best part of it. I wonder if you snorkeled at a different spot. We were next to an old sunken fishing boat (I wanted to paint Carnival on the side of it:D). The water was clear but there wasn't much in the way of fish other than those silver and black stripped fish that are everywhere. We saw one stingray which was cool.

  10. We've never had any issue finding a decent wine. On our last sailing we let the sommelier pick our wine at dinner and he served some really good wines from all over the globe. There was only one that we both didn't like out of about a dozen. I'm certainly no wine expert but we drink enough to know a good wine (about 150 bottles a year) from 2 buck chuck. I think the "house cab" is Wente from Northern Cal. and it's a decent wine.

  11. I found Concierge class to be a waste of money. The Canapes are a waste, the lunch on embarkation day is nice but so is the buffet. The expedited boarding too longer than the regular line the one time we used it. The champagne is not very good. I don't see the value in Concierge when it cost another few hundred $$ more than a regular Veranda.

I will do AQ again, there is some value with the Blu dining and the Persian Garden. But Concierge only if the cost is about the same as a regular Veranda cabin. I do have a concierge booked on a Australia cruise next year and the only reason I did it was because it was actually cheaper than the Veranda cabin we wanted when we booked.

  12. It's not hard to figure out what you should have paid. Certainly Celebrity makes the invoice hard to understand but it's still easy to figure out.

Cost of cruise (I assume you know the cabin cost)

Cost of taxes and fees (again you should know the tax and port charges)

Cost of an additional perk (if you upgraded you perks you should know what the cost was, if you didn't upgrade to go better or best then just add the first 2)

Add those 2 or 3 items together and that's what you should have paid.

Celebrity likes to add charges, then credit the charges making the invoice 10 lines long when it could be 3. I ignore all that extra noise and just add up the 2 or 3 things I know I am paying for. I have one right now where they added a $150 go better charge on the bevy package. My TA is going to have to correct that. You certainly have to watch them but it's really not hard to figure out what you owe.

  13. They are a bit lacking in the technology dept aren't they. And most cruise lines are the same. No idea why the servers (waiters and bar staff) don't have hand held scanners/tablets to take and place orders. It would speed things up and cut down on errors. We had the wrong entrees delivered several times on our last cruise, once even in Tuscan Grill. Also several mistakes with drinks in the lounges and on the pool deck. This would cut down on errors and cut down on waste. Because those wrong drinks are just money down the drain.
