I really enjoyed the Sunshine and would absolutely sail her again on the 8 day itinerary you are contemplating.  She's got the best Serenity of any ship in the Carnival fleet.  Is there a little 'pinch' near Guy's and Blue Iguana? Yes.  Is the layout of the Comedy Club lousy? Yes.  Does she have all the bells and whistles of the very newest Carnival ships? Yes.

But none of us can tell you what's right for you.

Let me add one more thing.  Many of the opinions you'll see about the Sunshine are from folks who have never sailed her but somehow 'know'.  :classic_huh:

    Yes! Yes! Yes!!!😁

We've sailed on her 4x with an Aug '19 also booked. She fits our family of 3, also our daughter's families of 2, 4, and 5 that we've gone together on 2 of those cruises. Not one of our Sunshine cruises has EVER been bad, subpar, less than what we've come to expect, ect ect (and love) from Carnival Cruise Lines. Although the Conquest is our favorite of all,  Sunshine is a VERY close 2nd for all the above AND she's only a 90min drive to Port Charleston 😀

  2. What's wrong with tattoos? Are we judging people because they have tattoos now?

    Apparently some are🤔

Lol wait until I tell our oldest daughter (Jax atty) that she's scum!😱😁

    Or our next one (pharmacist)

    Or our youngest (nurse)

Or myself, a RN for over 30yrs...

The depth of people's judging is so deep it smells of poop, on some. Thank goodness not all!

  3. Lol, my piggie fingers apparently hit something wrong......

I was TRYING to say That it's a shame that scammers are apparently becoming a part of Every aspect of our lives. I guess it was just a matter of time before they hit One of Our most enjoyable pastimes, Cruising.

I'm very glad that you were suspicious of it AND called Carnival. Hopefully MANY will read and take heed of your post.

Wowza, it's really a shame that scamm

"I think it is a worry for us all that this happened and the awareness of this accident might prevent it happening again."

Oh yes, I agree completely! Awareness and hopefully Preventive Measures are key. I'm certain those can be accomplished without all the infighting tho. Idk I'm probably wrong, but I guess I'd just hoped it could be done... We're going on Sunshine's Halloween Cruise this year. Never done one before. Also taking Our 7yo son(seasoned cruiser) AND Our 9yo grandson (1st time cruiser). We ALWAYS stress safety to our son, this time unfortunately, we've had an example to go along with our talks to Both boys. I do believe it's a valuable lesson for them, however horrible it is that it even occured in the first place. I do hope others cruising with children will also find a way to incorporate this into their talks also... I also hope that I'll NOT be overbearing and hovering to them, to the point of making their Cruise "No Fun". This tragic accident has indeed scared me beyond belief. My Hubs and I have always been of the Safety 1st mindset. This time it just feels very different in how I feel about things, not in a good way whatsoever... It truly takes but a second for one's lives to be changed forever.

  5. I have searched and searched this, so thought I would just ask. After research for our Carnival cruise last year, I took a brand new, still in the package, 8 ft, UL Listed, non-surge protected, regular household 3 outlet, 2 conductor extension cord, and it was confiscated at the port.

Now we have another cruise booked. I emailed Carnival's special needs department and asked them if I could get a cord sent to our cabin. They said yes, for a $25 refundable deposit, but there are no guarantees they will have one to borrow depending on the demand. They also said "You may bring the extension cord. It will need to be in good working condition, and need to have the label, U/L Listed and will be subject to safety inspection at the pier." I emailed them back with my prior info of the confiscation and asked for specific info on what to bring, but never heard back.

So, my question is, what am I missing? Do I need to get a grounded one? Marine grade, with a 1 inch thick cord? LOL! Any ideas would be appreciated!

Sounds like Carnival did a no-no!

Besides the one we Always take being 4ft long w/6 outlets, ours are Exactly alike yours. Never had one confiscated. Idk if having it in carry-on makes any difference, it shouldn't because yours was in complete compliance with Carnival's website specs stating *you may bring an extension cord, none surge protector.*

  6. I read this in the news before I saw the thread here and my heart has been crying ever since. I have read thru this whole thread and the only thought that keeps going thru my mind is: since this child was taken from this earth so much earlier than anyone who knew her imagined, I hope she and her family had a very special cruise vacation that would be the last they ever had with her. I hope there were so many awesome moments and so many smiles and so much laughter that it will fill their hearts with a lifetime of unforgettable memories. May she rest in peace and prayers of comfort to her family and friends and peace to the crew members of the Glory.

    Amen🙏

    Beautifully said...

  7. We take our twins on cruises frequently (they're 10 yrs old and have been on 10 cruises).... I watch my children well, but there's always the occasion when you're looking the other way or distracted. I would be VERY grateful if someone were to scold my child for climbing on railing. When it comes to safety, it really does take a village.

Thoughts and prayers go to this poor family. My heart breaks for them.

Completely and Heartily AGREE with you.

  8. Very sorry for the family, heartbreaking story. Cruising with my soon to be 5 year old in a month, and DH and I were discussing to "leash" or not. We have been to Disney 3 times without 1 but after reading this story considering it as my child is extremely active and like a child doesn't always listen. I am also curious as to the HOW did this happen. Prayers to the family.

We did with our then 4 1/2yo a couple yrs ago. He Truly defines the words "spider monkey". It was NOT that we were incapable of watching our child, nor because we couldn't tame him. Lol, we heard both of those expressions and variants of, from some "concerned" fellow cruisers. It WAS however because we knew exactly what the Lil guy was capable of trying. Don't let anyone bully you into Not doing whatever you feel is for the safety of YOUR child. No matter what it is. In 14days we're going on a Halloween cruise, he's still the monkey he's ever been. I'd like to say he's matured enough to Not worry so much, after this tragic accident I'll probably be even more vigilant. Poor Lil fella. I'll most likely be a helicopter parent (always hovering) till he's grown. Still, it was an accident. They can happen at ANY time. All we can do as parents is our best. We also Pray. A lot.

  9. We stopped dressing 'elegant' when the airlines started charging for bags. Plus, we just don't enjoy getting all dressed up on vacation. We wear what use to be called 'church clothes' before jeans and T's became the norm at church. A black slacks and nice top for me and slacks and a button or polo shirt for him. Besides, I don't care what anyone else wears. It doesn't bear on my experience what so ever.

Great attitude! We feel/do Exactly the same. It's OUR cruise and other's grumblings/behavior have absolutely no effect on OUR experience. Lol, learned that on our very first cruise, am very thankful we did. No sense in paying to be miserable 😉 despite others apparent love of it.

  10. Getting meat from the Omelette station to add for the four cheese pizza!

Make my own fresh brewed sweet tea.

    Great idea for the pizza!

HOW do you brew your own sweet tea though?

I know I've just gone to drinking unsweet(yuck) tea while cruisin. Gave up on adding sugar Cus it refuses to dissolve.

  11. Considering the situation you have little to complain about. Remember all of the lines cruising the Caribbean had to scramble to secure ports for their cruises. Your itinerary was the best they could do in the circumstances. Relax and enjoy. If you feel you won’t be able to enjoy feel free to turn your cruise over to me and my wife.

    We agree 100%!

Only change the *wife* to my beloved Hubs 😀.

I'd also add in thankfulness for being unhurt nor Not dead.

Many of the residents of these beautiful islands that we so enjoy have lost everything.
