  1. Although we have not been to as many ports as others have been, our absolute favorite Caribbean beach is Harbor Lights in Barbados. Plus, our past experience with Carnival was bad enough to to keep us from ever sailing with any Carnival line again. I would definitely steer you to RC Adventure.

  2. Left Adventure OTS yesterday. Invoice showed charge for $12.82 for mini-bar. As many know, there is no mini-bar, just an empty fridge. The charge was obviously for the 2 bottles of water they put on the vanity. I called the number provided on the bill and had virtually no wait time. The rep happily and professionally explained that if the cabin steward moved the bottles and the person inspecting the room afterwards sees the original spot empty, it is reported as used and then billed. Seems a bit odd to me, but the bottom line is I spent less than 5 minutes on the phone and had the charge cheerfully refunded.

  3. If you are flying in same day, you can purchase round trip shuttle service from Royal Caribbean for $36 per person. They meet your right at baggage claim, take your luggage and get you right to ship. They leave every half hour. We were very happy with that service - on Adventure right now.

I believe this has to be reserved and paid for in advance.

  4. Any suggestions for transfers from SJU to the port. UBER can't pick up at the airport so any other options that anyone has used?

    Thanks!!

  5. Who is the Cruise Director and Activities Manager on Adventure right now? Any comments about them?

Casey Pelter is CD. Eric is AM. Have had better (Abe Hughes is our favorite CD) and have had worse for both. Difference on this cruise for us is that other than when they were hosting a show or event, we have not seen either one of them around the ship even once. We are on day 5. Maybe just bad timing??

  6. Yes, PanAm Pier.....about a $25 taxi ride from Old San Juan.....

  7. We are on Adventure OTS now. Phone on airplane mode with wifi on and using Voxer app to text and talk (not a phone call, like a walkie talkie). Voom Surf & Stream is working great all over the ship. If you have time, wait for a cruise planner sale. On board, the price for one device is $17.99/day. I paid half ($8.99) in advance with a cruise planner sale.

  8. Medicare does NOT pay outside of the US and a secondary insurance does NOT pay for anything if Medicare does not pay primary. I know this from personal experience. My husband had a stroke in Acapulco and had to have a Medivac flight back to the US. To the tune of $24,000. dollars. Called Medicare and told NO payments outside of the US and its territories. Then called our secondary insurance which I knew had emergency evacuation insurance and was told that if Medicare would not pay neither would they. What a learning experience!!

I am so sorry for your experience. The supplemental plan F does pay for situations like yours. What they do is base their coverage on what Medicare would have paid IF the costs were incurred in the US. You can check this out with your insurer and if affordable for you possibly sign up at the next open enrollment. In the meantime, you can look here for information on the plan. I have mine through AARP who processes through United Health Care. Hope this helps.

  9. That's true and we have plan F with BCBS. But it only covers up to $50,000 and that's for life. Each time you use it the balance will go down. I wish that they would realize that just because we are older, we aren't house bound!!

Torpeedo: If I am not mistaken, the $50,000 lifetime maximum applies to medical expenses incurred outside the U.S. only. I was not sure if you meant that or in general.

  10. Thanks for the clarification, Mollyeilis. Maybe this should be for a different forum, but in addition to out of country medical coverage and a lot of other features, the supplemental Plan F also covers the Medicare Part B deductible and excess charges. It is a GREAT plan

  11. I like your price better. Does it include primary medical? Are you over 65?

Policy includes emergency medical as secondary coverage. I do have Medicare and supplement Plan F and my wife has private insurance. The Plan F supplement covers 80% after a $250 deductible for international emergency medical costs, based on what Medicare would have paid if the illness had happened in the U.S.

  12. It does depend on age. We only get medical (we have Medicare and a supplement) and evacuation and ours was 110.00. This time we went through squaremouth and sometimes use insure my trip. Global Alert I believe.

We also used Squaremouth for evacuation insurance for our upcoming cruise. The options we chose came out to about $68 total for the two of us.

  13. I use an app called Voxer. It works like a walkie talkie and you can also text. It works on wifi so not through a cellular network. Anyone you want to communicate with does need to also have the app. Website is Voxer.com. It is available for Android, iPhone, etc. Hope this helps.

  14. File your claims but let your anger about it go. Forgive me for saying it, but you aren't getting any younger. Count your blessings and get on with your life. Take the 50% or don't. File a claim or don't, but let the anger about the situation go. I know easier said than done but you won't gain anything from it.

    DaddyE: Excellent advice!!
