I'd buy in Anchorage the night before. What area of town are you staying in?
Probably near the airport. There is a Marriott brand there, Courtyard I think

Arriving in Anchorage in the evening and proceeding to Whittier the next day. Is there somewhere in the airport or in Whittier where wine can be purchased before boarding the ship?
-
Does anyone know if companies like Harv & Marv and Gastineau share sightings while on the water so the other tour companies can relocate to the area where the whales are?
-
Thank you for all the input. I will stop looking for that deal.
-
I'm not seeing the 3 for free promotion available anymore. Is that correct or do I need to look harder?
-
Thank you all for the clarification.

So it says that a reservation made now, pre cruise, without payment might not be available when we are onboard.
Has anyone made reservations in the specialty restaurants ahead of the cruise and not had them available to use credits on once boarded?
-
Thank you. When we tried to make a reservation that option to prepay was not given, only a credit card. Am I looking in the wrong place to accomplish this?
-
Is one not able to use cabin credits in the specialty restaurants on Princess ships?
What can you use cabin credits for, please?
-
Thank you for all the responses. My TA did repeatedly state refundable but I was looking for some indicator on the booking pages. I just changed route and ship and she moved my deposit over. Pshew! Refundable it was.

Thank you! Would it also indicate refundable or just not show anything?
-
Does the confirmation you are sent upon booking and paying the deposit indicate whether the deposit is non refundable?

An earlier posting was inquiring about soot being a possible issue if booking an aft facing cabin.
Would one experience soot more in the higher decks?
Which aft facing balcony decks would be better on Royal Princess? Any aft facing decks that would be a no go?
-
Good news, thank you. Hoping all 4 of them can be unlocked and that the janitor closet doesn't prohibit that from happening.

Were the upgrades made through the cruise line after booking through the cruise line? Or, if done through a TA, would the TA have to call to see what upgrading options/charges would be?
-
Does anyone know if there are obstructed views on deck 6 because of the lifeboats? Nothing seems to be mentioned or shown on deck plans.
-
Whoa, thank you for the info and the visual. I didn't even pay attention to the icon for those cabins, thinking I knew what it would look like. Your postings saved me a huge disappointment.

DNA1990, you mentioned a "super structure" at the aft of the ship and that the crew had a rest area on deck 5.
How high does that structure go and does it block seeing straight back to the water from deck 6 upwards?
Is the crew rest area on deck 5 at the back of the ship, behind the dining room? Are they allowed to smoke there? Is it noisy because of the chatting?
Thank you so much for your input!

Is it true that those who were on the last cruise that came back a day early to avoid the "fog" and drop off the novovirus folks were reimbursed for a day, making it a 6 day charge instead of 7? Supposedly, from someone who was on that cruise, said that and a 20% off their next cruise was given to them.
We left the port 20 hours late on the Thanksgiving week departure due to the port they chose to put themselves in, got squat for the choices they made. Weather is one thing, stupid choices are another. Word is the stupid choice was upped for the coming year as well. What?????

Unfortunately, Princess did not disclose the issues involved with being docked in the ship channel at the Houston port. That would have helped make the decision on which port to leave from. Honesty and full disclosure, is that too hard to expect? We would not have booked with them had we known.
-
Sminfiddle, your response of: "If you mean the waived port fees, my experience is that the first item on my folio was a credit for over $20, description was "GOVT" and though unconfirmed by Princess, this looks like a refund to the passenger of the Houston port fee. This would not help Princess' bottom line, right?
Net Positive for a passenger sailing from Bayport.
Houston is also giving Princess and Norwegian the proceeds from parking. I don't have any problems with that. You pay for parking wherever you go. Neutral effect on passenger."
------------------------------------------------
Parking proceeds that Houston is giving to the cruise lines does have an effect on passengers when winds and fog prevent us from leaving in a timely manner due to the narrowness of the channel. It is not a neutral effect imho. If they had opted to forego the "Park free" perk and docked in Galveston, the narrow channel would not have had to be dealt with.
And, please, please, please, keep the $20 government rebate for the Houston port fee and let me go to the ports on the schedule by leaving when we should, not 20 to 24 hours late.

Innumerable = 2
I've had innumerable cruises! :D
~sent using Cruise Critic app~
Thank you Dudleydog73 for explaining what I meant by innumerable, more than 1, more than 2 even. One cruise after another, not just ours, cancelled the Roatan destination when trouble hit paradise, aka the Houston Ship Channel.
-
Unless you like to gamble as to whether you will actually be able to visit the ports on the itinerary and do the activities/tours/excursions you have planned, DO NOT DO IT.
Roatan was cancelled on innumerable departures from the Port of Houston. Unfortunately, and Princess should have known this before it took all the perks in the form of $ saved on their bottom line, if winds pick up, the channel is too narrow for the ship to turn around safely which causes a delay and change in the itinerary. Fog is also an issue and the length of the channel prevents them from entering and making their way to the dock causing delays leaving and returning.
Delays of as much as a full day departing and delays coming back into port make for chaos in the travel plans for their customers but it appears from what others have posted that Princess was of no help to those who did not book air travel through Princess. The fact that Princess advised them to change their flights to later in the day and then revised that the day of arrival made no difference. They were on their own.
It definitely was money not well spent. Too many other choices where you have a chance to get what you expected to get.
Galveston appears to have suffered the same weather but because they did not have the narrowness of the channel nor the length, they did not have the same unfortunate changes to the passenger's experiences.
Looking for whale watching tour that would accommodate 10-14 people

We used Harv & Marv's in Juneau. They have a boat that will hold 18. We were a party of 8 and booked it for just us 8 with a slight upcharge per person than if we had been one of 40 on a bigger craft. We were pleased with them.
