  1. My kids are 2, 4, and 6.

What we did was take Kindles with headphones with movies on them, and Leap Pads (again, with headphones) to dinner. We ordered the kids meals with our appetizers. Then, as soon as kids were done eating (and I was done my appetizer) I walked them up to the kids club. We finished our meal in peace, and they had fun with their friends.

We don't allow electronics at the table at home, but there, I am more concerned with my 3 kids not disturbing other diners. My older two are diagnosed ADHD, and get excited/loud very quickly.

I let the kids stay up late and have fun, and then we all sleep in in the morning. My kids are up til 10 or 11 on the weekends anyway, so they are flexible about bedtime.

  2. I am still struggling with 6 pm vs ATD.

3 of our 4 port days we are in port til 6. I want to enjoy as much time as I can.

But....I have 3 small children who don't wait nicely for more than a few minutes. At least one-two of the nights they will eat with the kids club.

Realistically...how long do you wait at around 6:30/7 for ATD on Dream? Am I going to be looking at a 10-15 minute wait (this will my DH nuts as he hates waiting when the kids are being hyper)?

  3. I know I'm cheap, but I would/will not spend $5 a person for the character breakfast. It would be $25 for my family of five. No thanks. We'll eat on Lido for free. Not going to pay that much for breakfast.

Hope it works out for them.

  4. My kids are 6, 4, and 2, and will love this.

However, most people sailing don't have kids with them. On Fascination over fall break, there were only about 30 kids even registered with Camp Carnival. The most I ever saw in there was about 10.

I think they missed the mark on this one. If I wanted to sail with characters, I would go Disney. This isn't going to bring families TO Carnival. Price brings families to Carnival.

  5. I think it is a good idea. However, another change to get more parents to the dining room on time is to have the Camp Carnival dinner on Lido start 15 minutes before dinner seating.

Several times we were late for dinner because check-in for the children's dinner was supposed to start at 6 and they were running late, and there was a line, so we didn't get to the dining room til 6:15/6:20.

  6. Our food got covered in ants too. I was miffed because we barely got to eat any of it. IMO, they need to either spray or serve the food something with ant-proof lids. The ant guys we have for our home guarantee no ants for 6 months, and they only spray the perimeter. Seems Carnival could try a little harder on them.

  7. We had 5 in a Grand Suite on Fascination and had a fantastic time. The extended balcony is WORTH the extra money--two lounge chairs and 3 standard chairs was awesome for our family. It was not that unreasonable--$2395 plus taxes for 5 people for a 5 day sailing this fall.

On the cruise, my 2 year old did not nap. There was too much going on. She rarely naps at home anymore, anyway. And bedtime was never before 10. She stayed in the kids club til then so we could go to the shows most nights.

  8. I travel with medical formula for my son and always carry it on myself. If it disappeared, I can't get more. I don't trust it to anyone. I got a fold up crate on wheels at Office Depot to put it in. They do make you put it through the X-ray machine

  9. I enjoy chatting with people here on CC, but when I cruise, especially on the first day, I'm not interested in a planned event.

This is me. I hate small talk. My own hangups, I know. I'm cruising with 3 young kids, and if I get a few minutes without them, I just want to sit on my balcony and relax. I know some people love the M&Gs, but I prefer to be anonymous.

  10. Took my 2 year old a couple weeks ago. I used one of the blow up rails under the sheets on the sofabed. It worked perfectly for us. :) Thankfully, I found it for $5 on a local Facebook marketplace.

This pic is my 6 year old already asleep, but the 2 year would have gone in the open spot.

  11. I waited til DD was 2.5 and was glad I did. DH and I really enjoyed the little bit of downtime we got when she went in the kids club, and we had her eat dinner there a couple nights because a 2 hour dinner was just too much for her...after about 30 minutes she was DONE sitting nicely. Formal night was great with just DH, I and our 6 year old (4 and 2 year olds in kids club).

I'm too cheap to loose out on $1000, so for that, I'd go. :)

  12. The bears were $20-25--like Build A Bear, there are different prices for the different bears, and then you can buy clothes if you want.

Some of the night owls nights for 2-5 year olds are 13 and run til midnight. The 6-8 year olds fun til 1 were $20 and after those are over, it is $6.75 an hour per kid plus 15% tip.

Everything else in Camp Carnival was free.
