  1. I found the Hyatt in Vancouver ideal. I walked from there to my ship and the location didn't have too many bums hanging around (I say this as an LA native).

I also have stayed at Hostel International Central which was by far the worst hostel I've ever stayed at (you may like it if you like the smell of urine though), but easy walk to the terminal. I'm not that picky with lodging but I do want it to be clean and safe. Lots of bums hanging out in front due to the location.

I've also stayed before at the Barclay for a cruise that I booked last minute as few places were available at a reasonable price . Was no thrills, but an easy bus ride to the terminal.

No— Americans are what’s messing this up. If people would follow some basic guidelines, the daily death toll wouldn’t be above 3000

Tell that to people in India and Mexico too =/ Hell even Italy is having  a surge after they had really progressive ways to limit exposure but again America is the problem like always.

Did one L&S where the category we originally had was not available, and RCL wouldn‘t price protect the new cruise, but we were able to move everything we had paid, OBC, and Visa credits over to the new cruise. It sounds like the cruise you want is cheaper if they don’t price protect your original cost.

Ah I see. I think I'm out of luck here even if I take a 125% FCC. I purchased my original  sailing for $920 something. The one I am on now for 2021 is currently at over $3,500.

  4. I know lift & shift says:  blah, blah, blah, by selecting a future sailing on the same itinerary type, sailing length, stateroom category, and within the same 4-week period of their original cruise date same-time-next-year.

I was booked to go on Ovation for a round trip cruise out of Seattle in July 2020 in a studio balcony (just me going)  but due to it getting canceled, I had my agent lift me to July 2021's Quantum sailing in a studio balcony.

I'm figuring Alaska will be canceled for 2021 like in 2020 and at this point I started to look into Alaska for 2022. If I didn't get a good rate, I easily would just take a refund should RCL cancel, but the rate was so good that I'll take it delayed another year (assuming they will allow another lift and shift if RCL cancels)

Were any of you actually successful going from one room type to a better room type without paying the difference if you had to do a lift and shift due to RCL canceling, or is this just something that doesn't happen (This is my first time on RCL so I have no status)?

Reason I ask is even though Quantum and Ovation are sailing Alaska in 2022, the itinerary that I really like with a date that would work for me, is on Serenade for 2022, but there are no studio balconies on that ship. The balcony on the Serenade is actually cheaper now (even with the solo cruiser supplement)  than the studio balcony on Quantum and Ovation (as of now anyway). I'm assuming RCL is firm on their terms so I don't expect it.

    Thanks

We had a B2B scheduled for March 2021 and L&S to March 22.  You can L&S basically the same #of days  before final payment within a month of the date picking a date one month from the date you had selected in 2021 and price protected.    Or pay final and get a full refund once cancelled or cancel prior to that for an FCC.  We've done many L&S unfortunately due to Covid and hope to cruise the mid of 2021 and into 2022.

This is good to know. Already lift and shifted once from July 2020 to July 2021. I have a feeling I will need to do it 1 more time (Alaska). Only thing is I think it has to be for the same cabin and I booked for a studio balcony so my choices are limited since these rooms typically get booked right away. The dates for 2021 that would work for me don't have any studio balconies available and I doubt I'll be able to get them to put me in a normal balcony room unless I pay more money =/

  6. I'm in the same boat as you (no pun intended). I was booked on Ovation for July 2020 but due to Covid it got canceled so I had them switch me to Quantum for July 2021. I don't think Alaska will happen for 2021 tbh. I'm guessing if it doesn't happen we can lift and shift again should we get canceled. I'm really in a bad spot though as I booked a studio balcony and with lift and shift you can only be lifted and shifted into the same room type (few studio balconies and I seriously doubt RC will give me a complimentary upgrade to a regular balcony with an unobstructed view as this is my first RC cruise).

I really liked the Quantum itinerary as it included Victoria, sitka, and Icy Point. It looks like for 2022 that there are no itineraries for July that include all 3 of those ports (2 out of the 3 but not all 3).

  7. I'm in CA in LA county. We are going on another shut down like we did in the beginning. A family friend's whole immediate family currently has it and he is now in the hospital (and this guy didn't appear to have any major health issues).

I work for our local school district and they are trying to get us to come to work on a hybrid model soon.... I have a feeling they will make us sign waivers saying that we won't sue them if we get it.

  8. It was offered for my cruise at the same price. Ended up buying the refreshment package at $18 a day and the  surf & stream  wifi package that was offered at $11.49 figuring I don't drink enough alcohol to warrant the additional $25 and change apx a day. I now regret not buying it as I forgot about mimosas lol. I figure my Alaskan cruise in July will get canceled anyway so on BF/CM 2021 I could just buy it then.

Some of us just don’t like the formality of eating in the MDR. We haven’t been to the MDR for dinner in years. It would be very disappointing if only available food was MDR.  @Ocean Boy

I was wondering this too for the future. I generally try to avoid the MDR for dinner because it typically takes awhile. When I do go for dinner, I try to be one of the last ones in since they want me to get out lol (fine with me).

  10. Thanks guys :) Very helpful comparisons!

I've only been on 1 Princess Cruise which was 10 years ago and the food was probably the worst tasting food of any cruise that I have been on (and this is compared to lower end cruise lines). My parents have been on a number of Princess cruises and they said when they took the Sapphire in Alaska that the food served on it was the worst!

  11. Have a number of questions!

Have any of you taken different Alaskan cruises with different ships? Did one have better food than the other? Has was the entertainment on each ship? What was the age group you encountered at the solo cruisers meet events (if you attended)? Were there many 20s-30s people on the cruises?
