  1. Just got off the phone with Carnival regarding Saturdays departure from Galveston. At this time, they are not anticipating any trouble. I asked about possibly relocating to New Orleans for departure, and they do not anticipate that. If this does happen, we will know by noon tomorrow. The only thing that they have considered at this moment is to port out at 2 pm on Saturday instead of 4 pm.

  2. I would imagine it would take a lot for Carnival to cancel the cruise but I would advise that if you even think you might get Seasick to get your meds now.

I guess it's just hard for me to fathom how Carnival will approach the issue. I've read they will do just about anything to get you on that ship to get your money, but at what point do they say no?

  3. I'm very worried! We are on the Freedom Saturday also. Hopefully it will be like the last few storm warnings and turn out to be minor. Keeping my fingers crossed!

I'm going to call Carnival here shortly and find out the latest scoop. Talked to them yesterday as well, and they said the cruise was still on.

  4. Harborside where most the parking is floods quick, parking lots are slightly elevated so unless it takes a direct hit, it's passable. If you're parking there us Broadway to 25th to access the pier instead of 71st (Harborside) if its raining hard. Most the low area is around the train tracks

We are scheduled to park at Port of Galveston Lot B. Address is 224 33rd Street. Is this a bad spot?

  5. It's an island, so not much of one. Houston was built on a swamp that was drained and everything south of Houston was once upon a time either swamp or marshland. Also depends on the tide also. Seems a lot of times storms hit during high tide and there is no where for the water to run off to.

How much water does it take to flood the island? We decided to make it down to Galveston Thursday for Saturday's departure. We are worried about getting trapped if Carnival waits to tell us anything about the cruise.

  6. You will cruise no matter what. The ship will get out and by day 2 weather will be great.

I sure hope so. We've been waiting for this day since Christmas. I bought the entire cruise plus excursions for my parents, and it's their first one. They will be crushed if it's cancelled. I wouldn't even mind waiting one extra day to sail out on Sunday.

  7. Some of those parking lots will flood, depending on the amount of rainfall. EZ is the only one high enough that it won't be an issue. I would not want my car sitting in 6-8 inches of water for a couple of days.

How much does it have to flood for them to say we aren't cruising?

  8. I'm probably the biggest worrier of all, and what I'm getting sick of are these so called "meteorologists" who freak people out with their information they put out. We leave on our cruise out of Galveston on the 26th of August. I've been worried sick that this specific storm (Harvey) will end up in Galveston the day we leave and cause the port to close, therefore, cancelling our cruise. I've been told today that this storm will not affect the U.S. Just about an hour ago, I was told by that same person that we need to keep an eye on it this weekend cause it possibly could affect the Texas coastline. I just don't know what to believe. Anticipation for an upcoming cruise that you've been waiting for for over 300 days should be exciting and NOT stressful.

  9. 66 long days. But we're heading out a day early unless I can convince hubby to leave 2 days early just to get the vacation ball rolling...:D

Our cruise is next Saturday the 26th. We are driving down from OKC to Galveston 3 days early to get the fun started. So really my countdown goes from 10 days to 7 days! Going to break the trip up by making a stop at WinStar Casino for one night, a hotel stop in Corsicana the next night, and then a relaxing night in Galveston on our ocean front balcony before the cruise the next day! I've never been so excited! (Mind you I've been counting down from 300 days!)

  10. I'm sailing out of Mobile on the 26th as well, I'm also in a slight panic... It looks like if it does the gulf, it'll be a day or two before (if my math is correct looking at the different models).

What do you mean a day or two before? A day or two before it reaches the Gulf?

  11. Our cruise is finally less than 2 weeks out. (Only 13 more days!) We are sailing out of Galveston on Aug. 26, and here comes peak hurricane season! I've just now started keeping an eye on the weather, and I've read rumblings about Invest 91L. Any weather/hurricane gurus out there have any more info? I pray that it doesn't reach Galveston on the 26th... What kind of luck would that be?! Hoping it steers back out east like Gert!
