  1. When were the Traditional Dining times?  Also what time were the shows in the Princess Theater.

Thank you for your review.  We will be on Regal for the second time in Jan 2019.

How is the Medalion program working.  Are all the cabins included now?

Yes - that appears to be the case.

Last night and this morning the distant you needed to be from the door was about 5 feet and be there for about 2 seconds.  It appeared they had fine tuned it a little from the prior distances of 20 to 30 feet.

After lunch the distance was more like 10+ feet.

Also last night while sitting next to the door (inside) I noticed the lock was clicking randomly every few seconds like someone was unlocking it. This morning I was not noticing this sound.

Also - the coffee card is on our room card now.  We are on B2B cruises and the unused punches were carried forward to the 2nd cruise.  I now have 27 punches left.  I get the card mainly for the unlimited coffee since the coffee card is free for Elite paxs.

Is the coffee card free or do you swap your mini bar setup for the card?  Last time I was on Regal we could have one or the other but not both free.  Please clarify.  Thank you.

  3. We have been on both the Regal and Royal recently and have found the food and service in the MDR to be very good.  As for the Horizon Court and Bistro, I really have a difficult time understanding the complaints.  The selection is better than any other line or ship we have been on and the quality is consistently good.   Never experienced the crowding mentioned.   The buffet is a huge space and one can avoid crowds by choosing the time they dine.

We love Alfredo's and the International Cafe.   .

We always do at least one night at one of the specialty restaurants which are always excellent.

BTW we are on the Regal again in Jan.2019.

    Just my humble opinion.

  4. We are on the Regal Princess in Jan 2019 and confirmed our late traditional dining time as 8:15.  Checked the Personalizer and it has been changed to 7:15 P.M.!!  Not happy about that!  For those who have experienced the  new Traditional Dining times,  have they scheduled the theater entertainment accordingly?  Last year the early Traditional diners went to 8 oclock show and the late traditional diners went to the 10:15 show.  Surely they will take this into consideration when scheduling the evening entertainment.

  5. After the first generation of Grand-class were so successful, Princess rammed out five more ships launched between January 2003 and April 2004: Coral, Island, Caribbean, Diamond and Sapphire. The first two updated the Sun-class (which were not yet at all old) with features common to the rest of the fleet, the other three took the Grand-class to their next steps.

The fact that the next ten years saw only three new ships (further variations on the Grand-class) tells me that Princess got the design right and was wise to stick to what they did best.

But with 4500-5000+ passenger ships thriving on other lines, Princess does have to follow the industry business model and move upward from their current fleet of 3000-3500 pax ships. Non-mega sized ships do not "bog down" overall capacity; what they do is require more turnaround days than the competition to accommodate the same passenger count. So Golden and Star Princess are being more or less swapped out for Sky and Enchanted Princess not because they are old but because Princess gains 2000+ berths to sell while not increasing the number of voyages. Or in some regions they can maintain capacity with fewer turnaound days and redeploy ships to where demand in increasing (like China--or so they thought).

It remains to be seen what Princess' plans are for the 175k ton monsters arriving in 2013 and 2015. They will become Carnival Corp's largest ships, replacing the ones arriving for CCL and Costa a couple years before--which will have to be based in Los Angeles and Europe respectively as there is currently expected to be no capacity for them at the Caribbean turnaround ports (or Australia as was mooted for one of the ships when they were first announced).

Not sure what you mean "175k ton monsters arriving in 2013 and 2015". Arriving in the past??

  6. We were on the Regal from 10/26 to 11/5/17

On our last evening one of our three cabins was converted to the RFID reader which required obtaining a new cruise card with an RFID chip in it in order to open the cabin door.

The conversion did not bother our 2 1/2 year old granddaughter sleeping in a bed for the first time.

She rolled out of bed landing on pillows placed on the floor and never woke up sleeping the rest of the night on the floor.

This is a huge undertaking in preparation for the full ***** operation and I don't understand why so many CC members are so impatient and making such an issue out of this?

The little ones do not care and IMHO neither should anyone else.

    Just enjoy the cruise.

    Howard

Yes it is a big undertaking. I imagine the disappointment is due to Princess over-promoting the program and failing miserably with the implementation. Going on three months now and only 2 muster stations implemented on the Regal and even those few cabins are having issues!!

  7. We are departing on the Regal on Sunday. I decided to call today to inquire about the OBC others are receiving as a good will gesture for not being included in the ***** program. Was put on hold for about 5 minutes while the reg. res. dept checked with the Customer Relations dept. We were given $100 per person OBC. Thanks to all the C.C. posters.

  8. Just received an email announcing two entertainers; Doug Funk and Troy Thridgill. They are both comedians. Has anyone seen their shows? We generally like comedians but some are better than others and would like to hear comments from our fellow cruisers about these two. They are also presenting "Born to Dance" which I hear is very good. Looking forward to it. Thanks, Henry

  10. We like the stocked mini bar, priority boarding, free included wi-fi minutes, free laundry and priority tendering. Yes these perks keep us coming back along with the service, dining and entertainment. Princess treats us very well and appears to appreciate our loyalty. Will be doing our 21st Princess cruise on Regal on Dec. 10, 2017. Love the Royal class ships. Alfredo's is a favorite for lunch. The buffets on the Royal and Regal are among the best at sea. We always dine at least one time in the Crown Grill. Looking forward to trying the new Sabatini's Trattoria menu on the Regal.

Keep cruising and you will be Elite before you know it.

  11. If I were seated with passengers wearing t shirts and ball caps, I would simply ask for another table assignment. I agree with the other poster that my expectations on Princess are what they promote in their literature. It does NOT promote t shirts and ball caps in the MDR at dinner either on smart casual or formal nights. It is high time Princess require passengers to dress per the guidelines. Send the t-shirt and ball cap wearers packing.

  12. Thanks for your quick and pleasant/polite responses!

I am aware that this topic is a hot one but hope my question made it clear that we are not trying to "get away" with anything and will be appropriate at all times.

We are also going on a Panama Canal cruise in Dec 2018 so plenty of time to think about clothing!!

So has your husband decided to wear his racing t shirts in the MDR? If he does he will definitely be in the minority. I do not know why this is a big issue for some. Why can't they just go by the recommendations and wear a collared shirt? Is that too much to ask? My 2 cents.

  13. i dont understand at all how the new system will track you better than the old one. what 'activity' could you do without a card in the past that the new system will track better? when i used my own CC in the gift shop they wanted my sail card anyway. i'm assuming if i paid cash they wouldnt though.

whether soda. booze etc, you gotta use a card or the new system. i dont see this as any new data mining at all but i await enlightenment because i must be missing something.

I wasn't aware you could use a credit card or pay cash in the gift shops of Princess. They have only taken my cruise card for any purchases on any cruise ship. I have been on several lines and the method is the same.

  14. I would not say Princess missed the boat regarding European river cruising. As far as I know Viking and Crystal are the only other cruise lines in both markets. And of course Viking has been river boating for many years while just recently joining the ocean cruise market. This is Crystal's 2nd or 3rd year in the river boat market.

Of the ports you mention, I would only want to visit Toronto and Thunder Bay.

Hello gang! In my most recent cruise this year (Panama Canal :D) with Princess I heard some of the waitstaff talking about training the crew for the small ship cruises in the Great Lakes in preparation for the inaugural 2018 Great Lake cruises. Has any else heard this rumor? At first it sounded silly but then I know Princess "missed the boat" (pardon the pun!!!) with river cruising in Europe and maybe they are trying to position themselves as the best cruise line for Great Lakes cruising. Either way' date=' here are my top ports I want to see, small ship cruising of course! I am also wondering what ship will be used. I haven't seen it yet in the Cruise Atlas.

    1. Lake Erie port

    2. Sandusky Ohio Port

    3. Chicago

    4. Detroit

    5. Toronto

    6. Thunder Bay
