  1. Great ideas- Too bad a few of the respondents are such killjoys! I've been on (and off) these boards for a number of years and have always found there are many people with nothing better to do than constantly peruse the various posts looking for something of which to be critical.

I would guess they're the same people who always complain about their last cruise because someone made the mistake of not wearing a Tux on formal night or how bad the deserts were after they consumed 4 or 5 portions- lol.

Thanks SoonerDog, Not sure if you read the entire thread (full disclosure some things are not "Light-Hearted"), but there is even someone who has asked to shut the tread down. Really sad as some are pretty funny others not so much.

  2. I find it hard to believe that you do not see the difference between a brief passing conversation with a staff member and engaging an overworked dining room steward in a game with your table mates.

NavyBankTeacher.... Please articulate for all how your 5 minute conversation is different that a 5 minute participation in my joke? End of day, both are 5 minutes? If you don't like my taking their time - why are you allowed the same ?? Is your waiter or cabin steward not overworked ?? Is it OK for you to talk to them because it is not funny or "time wasting" in your opinion (and therefore in your mind move productive)?

Notice how when you are talking to them it is a "brief & passing conversation" (which can times be at the end of dinner when you have your coffee & I am waiting for desert?) but when it is me I am wasting their time. You sir seem to have injected your opinion on what is or is not acceptable to engage a crew member for their use of time. Do you not waste the exact amount of time (5 minutes vs. 5 minutes)? My conversation has been all along to keep others on vacation out of the mix, and only engage crew that are willing. Do you ask every crew member where they are from ? I'm sure not because you can tell which crew like to have a chat (i.e. a rapport with their guests) and those that are so busy they prefer to just keep going. I use the same level of discretion when I engage a crew member as you do for your conversations.... We may have different topics, but we both use their time.

Please enlighten us all on your discernment between your 5 minutes & my 5 minutes. BTW which do you think a crew member enjoys more - ANOTHER question about their home, ANOTHER question about their family (which you remind them about how much they miss them), and ANOTHER question about how much they enjoy being on a ship 6 months at a time.... Gee, they don't hear THAT every single week from one of you who just thinks they are being friendly with a crew member ?? GEEEEZZZZEEE !!

  3. Can't you understand that, to the extent the servers spend ANY extra time playing your "fun game", it takes away from the (very little) time that they have to attend to those at other tables --- and that is already barely enough to handle the "discussion" about food.

You merry pranksters need to think beyond your own amusement when it starts to impact others.

Give me a break! - Do you mean that you have NEVER actually spent time talking to a member of the crew? Have you ever spent 60 seconds learning about their home? Have you ever gotten into a 5 minute conversation about how they enjoy the Cruise line / what is there favorite ship or where do they go next ? Seeing your amount of cruises I am certain you have..... Therefore you mean to tell me your conversation is fine, but them willingly participating in a friendly joke is not fine ? You must immediately stop speaking with all crew as you waste their time !!! Pleeeaase !!

  4. I didn't get the idea that a joke was played on the servers, and certainly no disrespectful behaviour was exhibited. I got the impression it was a simple, fun little game, and their permission was asked. Seems pretty darn harmless to me.

I've been racking my brain trying to come up with a good practical joke to suggest, and I'm just not that clever.

OP, thanks for starting this thread. You've proven that not everybody in this world are uptight! My motto: Too much fun still isn't enough!

As OP, I have gone on record in defense that these jokes are friendly fun between consenting adults who travel together as friends... Let's think about this for a little while.... A friend is someone you know (and they know you).. your personality and the fact that you are cruising together means that you actually enjoy each others company. Does any one of the haters actually think that you set sail with friends & it's the 1st time you play a practical joke ?? Good way to end a friendship if your friends would react negatively. But when you think about it, the reason we are friends in the 1st place is we both appreciate a good joke every now & again! This is why I was seeking simple, light hearted fun. Some suggestions made may not be my cup of tea, but others I find very funny.

Either way, your cruise will not be impacted because I have stated a million times this is not to involve other guests - I get that, it's your vacation & no-one wants this to affect others outside of our group.

Please lighten up people !! Thanks Julie3fan for the support!

  5. Op,

Borderline hate crime commenter here. I guess I’ll explain myself.

I understand your intention and have no problem with pranks that don’t bother other passengers or make more work for staff. To each his own. Some of these suggestions were genuinely funny.

The above post went way beyond an innocent prank. Sending someone to interrupt an innocent gathering of a frequently persecuted group of people (with the sole intention of making them uncomfortable) is reprehensible. There are instances of misunderstandings such as this leading to violence.

Carry on “inflicting pain” on your own traveling party. Leave marginalized groups alone.

Agreed - If you recall, I have no intention of this spilling over to ANYONE other than people in my party...Someone else made that comment

  6. Wannabe pranksters should keep their "jokes" to their own group and leave other passengers and staff out of it. You can bet the staff are quite accustomed to moronic and juvenile stunts being played on them. They've seen it all before, play along as required and then roll their eyes when they turn and walk away.

K32682 - I agree, playing pranks on the crew is not nice.... I never suggested that... I never want to disrupt another person's vacation, or do nasty things to the crew.

  7. At the risk of getting myself involved in this "interesting debate" thread, I've got an idea or two. Fair warning, the cruise I'm leaving for in a couple weeks is my first ever so I'm not sure how these office-style pranks would translate.

Some coworkers and I have a couple ridiculous objects (think a silly looking stuffed monkey, or a small badly-done creepy painting/picture, or a weird looking small statue/sculpture) that we've all had a good laugh at. Now these objects will randomly go missing only to be found in odd places later. Inside a desk drawer, under a chair, hanging from under a table, etc. When the object is found, it's the next person's responsibility to hide it in someone else's office until it's found again. We can go weeks or months without knowing where one of the objects is. Now obviously, this can be a little trickier with only a cabin to hide things in, but when you open something and are met with such a ridiculous object it's always good for a laugh.

I've also had a coworker use a label maker to label everything on my desk. Most notably was my keys. He didn't know what everything on my key ring was so he just made things up. So my house key is labeled "gym", a key chain I got from my husband is labeled "thing", etc. I still have the labels on my keys because I still chuckle at it. Maybe this could be done with post-its or something similar? Someone might open their drawer or closet to find everything labeled with a funny name.

Perhaps if you have a husband, boyfriend, or son who's a heavy sleeper, you could paint their toenails in their sleep. I've done that one to my DH before. He had beautiful dainty purple toes for a week :)

I LOVE the stuffed lobster prank! I might have to steal some of these ideas and use them on my husband!

NewCruiser - Thanks for the input.. Glad to see you keeping it light ! - How can a Stuffed Lobster under a tray not be funny :)

  8. People, people... As the OP I only asked for input to the original question, what are some good jokes I could play on friends (consensual & participator adults) while going on vacation with them. That was it! I sought input, not opinion. Then others commented about how we are taking away precious time from workers that work 14 hour days from their vacation, then to peoples opinion about TV programs & hate crimes... SERIOUSLY ??!!??

I only asked for input to my question, NOT OPINION on what your interpretation is about MY vacation, with MY friends keeping this light hearted & friendly - HATE CRIMES - Really ? Disappointing with how this has evolved and appreciate the people who have contributed funny topics they have done. Those people have simply answered the question, and opinion is what has lead us here.

I would request that we move back the original intent of the post, keep it light hearted as I am hopeful we can agree that there are far more serious topics to engage upon (such as another senseless school shooting today) than my original request.

Please stay on focus with the question... And thank you all for your input!

    Thank you

  9. OMG- and with the Hate Crime comment! I can’t stop laughing!!! These are better then the practical jokes them self:') Are all these fun police people really never watch Candid Camera, Just For Laughs or Practical Jokers. Do you get upset at these shows? This thread start by OP asking for ideas he could play on his group!!!! Why has it gotten to what it is now. If I didn’t know better. I think the Fun Police have labled us jokers as a hate group that is trying to cause a mutiny on the ship. By wasting as much time as we can to fellow cruises and staff on the ship!

    Thanks for the support BlueSky

  10. I think the joke was on the straight friends, as was the awkwardness.

Rick, I'll bet you never expected to get this much hate for trying to have fun (or is this whole thread an elaborate practical joke on your part?)!

After ordering your meal, everyone at the table shift places before the food comes back.

No Jake.. I never expected even being moved from the RCL Board to Ask a Cruise Question.....I imagined someone might balk, but it's so sad... And BTW this was not just a practical joke for the boards (good analogy though - to make a joke about jokes).

    :(

  11. Where are people buying these huge step ladders from?

You know Rick, the ones they use to climb off their high horses!

I've been cruising for almost 30 years.. from seeing everyone almost recognizing each other on board over the week & actually holding elevators for each other to people giving a care less like they own the Billion Dollar Ship they are on. As we move from 5 million guests per year to 25 - 30 Million per year you get many personalities... including ones on this post who have to take this in directions it was never meant to be.... Simple, clean fun between families traveling together playing simple gags on each other to make memories.

For Instance, one of the friends nick-name is "Mr. Surf rider" - why, because he's 50+ years old and showed up all the kiddies on how to surf on the simulator.

I really want to thank all the fun people out there who put on an extra happy face when there on vacation & let their HARMLESS joking side poke out over the week... Not every minute, not to be invasive or disruptive to others, but to have FUN.... That is what this is about !!! If you don't enjoy this on vacation - we don't want it to affect anyone than the intended audience. You can keep your style of humor (however it may be) but let's apply the KISS principal to this thread

    Thanks for the support!

  12. You can always take a clue from some of the threads on the Carnival forum.

When the luggage is delivered, take a piece of the luggage and hide it in your cabin. Have it mysteriously reappear outside the cabin door the last day of the cruise.

I know, not funny, but it seems to happen on Carnival according to some of the recent threads.

Funny about Carnival.. but we do not want to bring in or intrude in other strangers vacation(s)...

  13. Along similar lines, we had running jokes going with our wait staff one cruise. Things like spelling things out in pepper on the table after they walked away (we cleaned it up ourselves), etc. Our favorite though was the last formal night, after our waiter took our orders, we cleared everything off the table (putting it in our laps), and reset the table with plastic plates, cups, utensils, etc that we had borrowed from the Windjammer. Our assistant waiter came back first and doubled over with laughter. Our headwaiter then saw it and doubled over with laughter. Other waiters and assistant waiters delayed their departure from the station near us to see our waiter's reaction. He walked up with a full tray, did a double take, and kept walking to the station. And then doubled over with laughter.

Another cruise we had a large group of us, with some in traditional dining and some in My Time. The traditional folks had a table in the center of the bottom of the dining room, and our tables happened to overlook theirs. So we, along with our awesome waitstaff (who gave us some suggestions on what to do), had fun. One night, we sent down a plate of broccoli for a person at the table we knew doesn't eat vegetables (don't worry someone else at the table ate it). As this was a Canada/New England cruise, in one of the last ports we bought a stuffed lobster toy, and then our waiters delivered it down to their table on a silver platter under a dome. The entire dining room was trying to figure out what was going on with this big production coming down the stairs into the middle of the dining room.

THIS RIGHT HERE IS AWESOME!!! THANK YOU wrp96 Did you read how the crew (who love a good joke after being on the sea for almost 6 months) DOUBLED OVER with LAUGHTER!!! Did you read how someone ATE the Broccoli, and did you hear how they CLEANED UP after THEMSELVES...

Thank you for those who (in the spirit of the original post) have shared funny times!!!

    A Stuffed Lobster- AWESOME.

  14. Isn´t it against the community guidelines to post under several accounts???

Thanks Paulxyz - Never meant that, as I use several machines... Admin, if you are reading this you may DELETE "Cruiser Rick" handle, becuase Paulxyz thinks that I was intentionally trying to inflate or who knows what by this post??

Haters going to hate - Geeze - again!

  15. Wait, are we talking about pranks on other people in your group? Or on random strangers/crew?

If the latter, I would definitely have to agree, not funny and not harmless. Don't mess with strangers, it's just common sense... Especially if they handle your food!

But if you're talking about friends and family, people you already know, then game on, I guess.

As the OP, this is ONLY meant for our friends we are traveling with.... NEVER once was it meant for or toward others... enjoy your vacation, we would NEVER want to intrude into other strangers vacations. As for the crew, you have to be selective & make sure that if you bring them into it that they appreciate it without being pressured.

  16. I agree. People working on ships are not your friends or even equal in the relationship. So putting them in a situation where they are obliged to play along is not my idea of fun.

WOW man is all that I can say!! Not friends? How many people hug the employees after a great week ? Equal ?? Wow, so because they work on a Cruise Ship they are your servants & not equal? PEOPLE... PLEASE KEEP THIS LITE-HEARTED!! If I have a waiter or cabin person that is not playful, jovial, smiling etc (you can feel a vibe)... I won't involve them, simple as that! No one should feel uncomfortable!

Can we please get on the harmless fun this post is meant for ???

Lots of simple gags on here being received by someone who treats them as fair play, and part of vacation. GEEZE!

  17. You have to be real careful playing jokes on someone serving you food. They have the opportunity to get the last laugh! :D

Indeed about Servers... They can have the last laugh. Like I said before, if you have a friendly waiter, cabin attendant, bartender etc, bring them in on the fun... This assures not harming others... and if they are playful, they will enjoy the gag (the key here is to stay "harmless"

  18. I hope more people add to the prank list! I may have to do the water or electric surcharge!!!! This isn't on a cruise but I pulled a April Fools Joke on my family this year. We do a family cruise each year. So we have a FaceBook page where we can talk and plan the cruise. So I run the page and I'm the go to cruise guy. I am the one with the answers or take the time to find out the answer. (from here- Bob has been a BIG help :) ) Anyway, I started a few days before April 1st. By asking if anyone got a weird email from RCCL asking if anyone under 18 was in our group. Kept it going with I called resolution and waiting for them to call back with more info. To the point that our cruise was cancelled because a NUDE CRUISE had booked the whole cruise. RCCL would only let us change for a cruise in Miami but would have to pay the rates as of that date. Well, I told them after 3 days that I was joking. Now I am no longer in charge of the board and no one believe anything I say now :) But it was a HELL of a laugh!!!!!

    Too Funny - Thanks BlueSkySailing!
