  1. Which is what I said?

I was correcting your statement "...must pay gratuities each time they order a drink...".

This is only the case if they do not have the UBP. If they have the UBP, they have paid gratuities upfront (Haven if booked after May 2017, all 'steerage' class) so no gratuities charged, unless the drink is over $15.

    Ok [emoji16]

  2. Not quite. The NCL Haven guests now have to pay gratuities on the package at time of booking, just like the other pax.. They do not pay gratuities for each drink order (unless it is the excess over $15) with the UBP.

The statement which I stated, "gratuities ARE included for Haven residents for the UBP," stands correct if they booked before JUNE 2017. This was confirmed by, NCL PRE-CRUISE CONCIERGE. That's why I posted.

  3. You're better off calling the hotel & rental company directly, to inquire if they have any availability. Even if they have some, I think you're safer flying into SA and doing the same when you return from your cruise.

Not to mention, with the amount of volunteers coming into the city between now & then and other travelers like yourself. SA sounds like the better choice. Don't want to miss your cruise.

  4. With Carnival and Royal Caribbean not cancelling cruises out of Port Galveston for Sept (2nd and onward), does anyone know the hotel and car rental situation in the city and what (if anything) they are saying on local news ?

My wife and I are scheduled to go out on the Breeze Sept10th cruise, and we are seriously considering changing our flight to go into San Antonio rather than Houston because we just do not know if our Hotel and Car Rental would be honored.

If we fly into Houston and have a Hotel ... that is not an issue. I do not need a car for that. But if we fly into houston and the hotel does not have our reserved room due to the housing situation in the city, and we cannot get a car because they too are all rented out ... we, and probably thousands of other cruisers are in deep trouble for a night.

Has anyone in the area heard about Hotel availability and Car Rental availability? I am really not trying to sound petty with the human toll Harvey has taken ... I just do not want to be temporarily hotel-less for an evening if i can prevent it.

  5. Correction: For NCL guests in Haven Suites who booked a cruise before June 2017 (but sailing after), gratuities ARE including so you don't have to worry about paying the UBP gratuities once on the ship. Any guests who booked AFTER MAY 2017, Haven residents or not, must pay gratuities each time they order a drink even IF they have the ultimate beverage package.

  6. I don't drink as such, maybe one.

However my husband does enjoy a few beverages and so if he bought a drinks package, would I be able to have one of those or do they literally watch him drink it?

    Mariner of the seas.

If not then being duty free are the individual prices reasonable ?

    Also what drinks are complimentary?

    Thank you.

Complimentary: Tea, lemonade, juices inside the windjammer, hot chocolate, water (not bottled). If your husband buys a drink package, everyone on the stateroom must have the package. Unless they changed this policy. Even if they did, the answer is no, you will not be able to get "one of those." He would literally have to buy his drink, walk away from that bar, give you his and he orders another from another bar. It 1 drink at a time. Also various drink packages. Some are "beverages", wine & champagne, or unlimited.

  7. You know you can put all those cruises in your signature instead of submitting them with every post?

Lol.. ok so here's the thing. I did my signature from my phone with all these cruises listed. New to CC, guess it's not appearing in my signature haha!! I always wondered. Thanks for letting me know lol

  8. First time on RCI and First time having a "guarantee" cabin vs. choosing a cabin....

Once your reservation is fully paid, how long goes it typically take before the actual cabin is assigned? The cruise I am taking is in October if that helps!

    Thanks!!

You don't need a passport or birth certificate to travel to PR. However, if you are traveling to other countries you are REQUIRED to have a Passport. Can't leave the country without one

  10. Why would Internet usage have a gratuity?

Because their response is incorrect unless this is for guest not staying in a full suite. Never have I had to pay gratuities on a package that was part of a promo offer.

Best thing to do is just ask your TA to include all gratuities within your booking price. That's what I did so there are NO surprises.

  11. DH is "darling husband" or dearest an abbreviation for your spouse.

Tipping is so personal. We really ask for very little. I make my own reservations and we don't eat in the cabin. Some people say $10 per day per person for the butler. I usually start at $10 per day and will round up depending on how much we use them and whether they do a good job. On a 14 day cruise we'd probably end up tipping them at least $200 and figure $100 plus to the Concierge depending how much you use them. Those would probably be the minimum amounts, but reading posts on here it seems some people tip much more. Again it depends how much you use their services and how outstanding they are.

When you make a reservation, they will know that you're in the Haven and in the main dining rooms, they swipe your card so they also know. I don't really think it gives you any benefit, we've had lovely window tables and tables looking into the kitchen. We never felt that they reserved better seating for Haven guests. Although that could probably vary from ship to ship. And if you have an excellent Concierge, he would make sure you got a great table, but we haven't experienced that for our last several cruises.

As far as other perks, I can't really think of any that aren't listed. Make use of the priority debarkation and enjoy the private suite/haven dining.

    Enjoy!

Thank you, I REALLY appreciate it!

  12. My DH and I debate this all the time. We sail Haven suites on NCL all the time. In looking at the Oceania suites there are large differences in the cabin sizes and amenities offered within the different categories.

We can either sail in a high end suite on NCL or the low end cabin (think small) on Oceania.

For right now, we're staying with NCL, but will probably consider trying out Oceania at some point in the future. Especially with how ridiculous the Haven prices are getting.

Guess we wouldn't know which we prefer until we try both.

What's a DH?? And what's the appropriate high & low you would tip your butler & concierge each, when sailing 14 nights? If I may ask?

Any extra perks which are not listed on the site you could enlighten us on? Does all the crew know (waiters included) know when guests are staying in the Haven?

  13. Hi

Hoping for some advice here. Im cruising next year I am a diamond member my travelling companion is not. Does she get the same diamond privileges as me? I don't want to go to the lounge etc without her.

Also has RCI done away with the cabin upgrade for Diamond member and is there a discount for diamond on drinks packages?

Thanks in advance for any advice

Yes, she can go to the lounge as long as she's with you. Discount on drink packages I am unsure. But there are happy hours between 5:30-8:30 where you get free drinks in the lounge and some bars. In the lounge, she will be served free drinks during HH but not outside the lounge. As far as other perks, she does not have Diamond privilege.

  14. Sailing of the Liberty in December. We booked an interior room.(just 2 of us) We are gold members of RCCL Crown and Anchor. When/how could we ask for a room upgrade? at guest services immedietly after getting on baord? at check in in the terminal? online weeks before? Also how likely is it to get any kind of upgrade? We'd love to have an oceanview or balcony (DREAM). thanks

It depends if the ship is full. If not, they won't mind upgrading you, but a fee will most likely occur. Not full price but something.

  19. i tried an online TA because i wound up getting 20% savings. so for they were great with a price drop i had. and no other issues.

however i notice on the visa requirement email the TA sent out, i have another persons name and booking number on it (which from warnings on this site is kind of like the password to your reservations). the PDF appears to be from the princess as their letterhead was on it. when i did bookings with NCL and royal i never saw other's information on my documents. this document had the TA's name on 1st page and 2nd page was just my name and someone elses name. almost seemed like was an internal TA document perhaps?

i emailed the TA to ask if its normal to divulge other passengers booking numbers and the response was:

This is normal practice from the cruise line. They cannot send a notice out to every individual or we would have thousands of emails.

They combine notices when they can.

Emails are electronic not like they are printing letters. THIS IS DEFINITELY A VIOLATION of confidentiality. I wouldn't use them again. That's a red flag. Cruise lines and TA's NEVER do that! And I have been on 30 cruises! The only reservation # and names you should see, are those in your stateroom.

  20. After we finish one of our "carry on bottles", DH keeps it filled with glasses of a favorite wine funneled in and capped. While I'm doing my thing during the day, he does wine runs. On a two week cruise, having that bottle ready and waiting for whenever is nice. Happy wife...happy life[emoji4]

Who is DH?? Lol, I keep seeing this everywhere.

  21. At what price point would it be beneficial for EVERYONE to buy and be a loss making proposition for the cruise line?

That's like asking, "At what price point would it be beneficial for EVERYONE to buy Suites at sea?" It's NOT for everyone. And if EVERYONE could buy it, it wouldn't be a suite and a loss of profit. Same with the beverage package. They would lose money making the beverage package affordable because buying them wholesale would cost more. At some point, you have to break even or make more in profit than what you are purchasing in wholesale.

You don't market yourself for cheap... then ANYONE & EVERYONE would take advantage.

  22. Apparently this has recently changed and they now charge the 18% gratuity to all US pax. Some Haven pax on the NCL board are not happy...

No... the response was in reference to AFTER the package has been paid for or included as a perk, BEFORE boarding. Gratuities ARE included in the package. When you swipe your seapass, there are no additional charges, for drinks under $15.
