  1. On our last cruise we had the classic package. One day we looked at the listing of "standard" drinks (below classic level), and decided to experiment. We ordered and shared one of everything over a four or five day period. It was so much fun. We only disliked one and found lots of fun ones.

    My favorite; the Golden Cadillac

Made with cream and Galliano, not sure if there was anything else. They were delightful, creamy and served in a martini glass. About 30 days and it could be my first shipboard drink!

  2. I would go for #1 Love Antigua and St Lucia, bonus with Barbados.

Antigua water is heaven, St Lucia beaches amazing!

The Cosol tour recommended by another poster is great. Check reviews. Have done it twice. Second time still good but far too many people. Like a large scale cruise ship excursion (I would estimate 120+ people).

  3. We are interested in visiting the fortress. Few questions for those who have been there:

    1. How much time is recommended?

    2. Is it better to DIY or through a tour company?

    3. If DIY - what is the best way to get to/form there from cruise ship?

We spent a couple hours which was just right. Could do it in less....but we really explored. We did diy. ..found a taxi in the main square just outside the port.

  4. are you offered the option of settling your onboard account via Canadian to avoid paying the credit card exchange fees? Trying to decide whether to cancel our US credit card. Thanks to all.

We have only had the option to pay in USD. It is the reason we still keep a USD credit card (we actually have two now - a visa and a m/c). We are depleting our USD account though and expect by our panama canal cruise it will be gone. We will still keep the USD cards though and just pay the bank exchange rather than cc exchange percentages.

Nice to see another Alberta cruiser posting on cc :)

  5. I was just wondering if someone who has been to St. Kitts could tell me if it's a good idea just to get off the ship and find a taxi? I was thinking to just do an island tour this way. That way we can go where we want on our own time frame. Wasn't sure if taxis just take you from point A to point B or if they would do an island tour for us not prebooked. Do you think it's safe and a good idea?

    Thank you

We did it that way last time we were there. I think it was 50 for both of us. He drove us on a little tour. We went to Brimstone (we paid entry fee) and saw more sights on the way back. Found it to be safe and easy.

IRC we exited the port turned a slight left and walked toward the town square. A block or two.

    Hope that helps.

  6. Drake,

We will be on the same trip as SailingSal. Adventure, arriving on Easter Sunday.

We have a kayak tour (5 adults) from Salt River Marina at 1pm. I have seen the taxi prices and I have seen what you were saying about the public bus.

Would this idea work, do you think? If we catch the bus in Fredriksted mid morning to get us to the tour by 1:00

Then we know we will need a taxi for the way back from the marina, since the tour doesn't end until approx. 3:30 and the ship leaves at 5:30.

But if we can do the bus one way, it would save some $$'s

    TIA

Curious to know who you are kayaking with...

I have a review on TripAdvisor about our experience there.

  7. It seems like you need to go to Megan's once in your life because everyone raves about it. My choice is Sapphire but I am curious about Morningstar. Must look that one up.

  8. Taxis are everywhere in St Thomas. As soon as you leave the ship you make your way through the shops to the taxis. There are signs clearly directing you. Once you get to the lot tell them you are going to Coral World and they will direct.you to the open air taxi headed there. They hold 20 or so people. If you leave early in the morning shortly after arriving you won't wait long at all to leave. At the end of your time there again plenty of taxis waiting to take you back.

Paradise Point is lovely. A short walk from port. Check the price on line. Many people report that the ship price is the same or less. A good way to use on board credit if you have some.

  9. I was under the impression that ship w/c's remain on the ship. I'd imagine they'd get beat up with off ship use.

Is this an island where they have those chairs with the big wheels to navigate in the sand?

Just as an FYI...we rented a wheel chair on the ship for our daughter years ago. We took it everywhere on and off the ship.

Usually it is quite calm there for tendering. Someone a little unsteady could have difficulty tendering if it is rough. That said the staff are very helpful in that process.

Ditto on the tram to the cabanas. And I believe they still have mister fans to keep your mom cool.

  10. Hi,

Is the underwater snorkeling trail in trunk bay better than sapphire beach? Do I see more coral, fish there? Does it worth the extra effort to get there?

How about beach and water color?

    Thanks,

    April

Yes to all of the above. The water is incredible. It is worth the effort. I have been three times.

Sapphire is lovely...Trunk Bay is simply incredible.

  11. OMG..Chef Leon on Below Deck! Beef Cheeks! Beef Cheeks! and again, Beef Cheeks! That was my first thought. So you are saying I should pass on the beef cheeks?

OP,Killsport, thanks for posting the menus. I am about to do my first non-AQ cruises in 7 years. After seeing the Blu menu, I remembered why I changed stateroom category. Blu menus have not changed since I started cruising X in 2009.

Another Below Deck fan?!!! Follow your heart on the beef cheeks. Chef Leon got rave reviews week after week after week. [emoji3]

Interesting about the Blu menus. Too bad they don't mix things up and update more often.

  12. Hello all! Just returned from a very enjoyable cruise on the Silhouette. I took pictures of menus (dinner, drinks, specialty) when I could. You should be able to view them using this link to my google photos album.

    https://goo.gl/photos/kbWoo3hRLaURB3LU6

If you can't see them, let me know and I'll see what security setting I messed up :)

These are camera-phone based, so not beautiful. But they should answer a lot of questions (at least ones that I had), like:

    1. How much does beverage XYZ cost?

    2. What is allowed in each beverage package (nice standard/classic/premium listing)?

    3. What night is a good night to NOT have dinner in the MDR and go to a specialty (for me, Thursday would have been a good night to do that)?

    4. When will he learn to take good pictures (never).

    Enjoy!

Thank you for taking the time to photograph and post these!!

  13. Is the "Top Chef at Sea" a typical Celebrity menu, or was it a special thing for your cruise? I've read some trip reports from cruises where they actually have the Top Chef chefs on board doing demos and stuff.

    Thanks for posting!

We had the Top Chef menu on the Constellation, without the actual top chefs on board.

To be honest, that would be my specialty dining night. I thought the menu was lackluster. I went for the beef cheeks (anyone watch Below Deck??). The beef cheeks were the most awful thing I have EVER had on a cruise. My opinion only, as the table beside us raved over them. I did meet another couple the next day - they share in my review of beef cheeks.

  14. Well this is good to know, but some people have reported that they could only cash out refundable OBC at guest relations on the last day of the cruise. I know there are a few of us that purchased OBC due to celebrity's favourable exchange rate with the CAN/US dollar with the intention of taking some of that money to spend ashore during the cruise. I will attempt this on our upcoming cruise.

November 2015 on Constellation. Guest services would only give refundable credit on the last full day. We tried earlier than that and were told no.

  15. We will go ahead with our booked travel, but do plan to readjust.

We are doing San Francisco and Fort Lauderdale in May, Oregon in August and a cruise out of San Juan in December. We are also booked for a Panama Canal cruise in April 2017. By then I expect we will have used our US bank account savings.

Almost a year ago I pre purchased OBC of $1000 for our November 2015 cruise. Who knew what a good idea that would be. We came home with about 850 of it.

So we will have to adjust our planning after that - or suck it up and pay the premium. Very sad given that we have reached a place where we have paid off our house, kids will be finished post secondary and we have more travel dollars...those dollars just won't stretch as far.
