  1. Hi Thanks for the response.  Criteria is Baltic as that was were we had planned this year, school holidays due to job and out of UK due to any potential issues next year with Covid.  Pop all that into a cruise site and those are the only two available.

  2. Also posting in Carnival forum

Looking at Summer 2021 Balitic cruise from UK and choice is either:

Carnival Legend 12 day out of Dover

P&O Ventura 14 day out of Southampton

Both visit same ports except Legend does Gothenburg but Ventura does Stockholm, all other ports the same just P&O have 2 extra sea days

By the time gratuities are added to Carnival prices the absolute and price per night is more expensive on Carnival but not by much.

Have previously cruised with Princess and v.happy with the experience so looking for thoughts on which experience would be best (food, entertainment etc) between Legend and Ventura and maybe which is closer to Princess.

    Thanks in advance.

  4. Looking at 2021 cruise to Baltic on Legend.  Ship docks in Warnemunde from 6:30am - 11pm giving enough time to get to Berlin and back.  Does anyone know if the ship arranges excursions to Berlin?  Was going to go with Princess this summer now cancelled and they had a train excursion dropping you off in Berlin for 5 hours by yourself which is what I would be looking for from Carnival.   Aware there are third party tours e.g. Alla but given the distances would prefer knowing the ship isn't leaving without me.

  5. Looking at first time on P&O for Baltic in Aug 2021 on Azura.  Just getting price on the P&O website and was surprised for both saver and select fares that 100% payment is required now.  Is this just P&O trying to rake in as much cash as possible to cover the cancellation payments ?  Given all the issues just now and for the forseeable future there's no way I'm paying 100% upfront so seems like a shot in the foot by P&O to me.  They may be ATOL covered but I've no intention of waiting weeks/months for a potential refund.   Princess who I've normally sailed on (also Carnival owned) only require what I think is a more reasonale £50pp for an Aug 2021 sailing with final payment 90 days before sailing.

So my question is, is this normal for P&O for cruises with 1+ year to go and in normal times, closer to sailing, do they do no/low deposits ?

    Thanks

    Question:

    • Would you sail on the Diamond Princess once it has it's cleaning, and returns to service?

Or, will there always be a lingering doubt in your mind, that no matter what Princess says or do with cleaning the Diamond,  it will still be an Covid-19 infested cruise ship?

If someone in your house gets corona virus or in a relatives house would there be a lingering doubt in your mind so you wouldn't go back to the house ?

Any sane person would obviously would say 'No' and the same logic should follow for this ship, any other ship, your place of work, local supermarket, car dealership, sports venue or any of the 1000's of other places where someone will get the virus and people will return to.  Why should the Diamond Princess be any different ?

  7. I noticed from people posting the MDR menus that they have suggested red and white wines, or as the menu says "wine pairings".  These don't seem to have any price on them - anyone know if the $12 limit on the alcohol package covers these ?

  8. Guessing you are on the Sky.

We have a 10:50am flight from Copenhagen to Heathrow after our Baltic cruise (Aug 2nd - 13th).  We've booked the Princess transfer from ship to airport.  Figured we could do it via public transport but some hassle and not very relaxing and local taxis seemed a similar price to cost of the Princess transfer for wife and myself.  When I mentioned the timing of the flight to the Princess person it didn't seem to be an issue.  No idea what time we will need to leave the ship.

Therefore I would say you would have no issue with an 11:30am flight.  Most airlines at Copenhagen allow self checkin of baggage so that reduces time required at the airport quite considerably.

  9. Don't bother with a ships tour.  There is a bus stop right at the port and the local bus will take you there for a tiny fraction of the cost.  You can use credit card to buy a return ticket on the bus.  Its worth the cost just for the ride along the fijord.

  10. As per Kaisatsu above.  Last year we walked from the port up to the Storseterfossen waterfall between points D and E on the map.  A good walk - took about 1.5 hours to get up.  Some great views from the top but make sure to walk down the path that takes you behind the waterfall. On the way back we went past the Fjord center and walked along the boardwalk by the cascading waterfalls which brings you back to the port area.  From the port we used the path marked with the K on the map until it reached path A.

  11. Had the same quandry as we have a 10:50 flight from Copenhagen.  The princess xfer is £30pp or £60 ($46) for the two of us , I couldn't find any taxi service that would beat that.  Also even with the new metro line it'll still mean  dragging luggage onto a shuttle bus to the new metro station then a change to the metro train to the airport.  In the end decided to go with the stress free option of a Princess xfer.  I'm assuming the luggage left outside your room in the evening somehow finds it's way onto the xfer bus ?

Hope you find  a solution that suits you.

  12. Hi - Just before Xmas I booked starboard  cabin E425 on the Sky for a Baltic cruise in August.  At the time it was about £440  ($576) per person cheaper than a normal balcony and also £70 ($92) cheaper than an inside.  Just checked today and can see price has gone up to almost the price of a normal balcony.

The 'obstruction' is the lifeboats.  However they are actually at the level of the bottom of the balcony so looking out you have an unobstructed view it is only looking down you are looking at the lifeboat.

However if you look at the deck plans/photos, the cabins midships have no lifeboats.  They are still considered obstructed because below them are the seating areas for Alfredos on the starboard side and the seafood restaraunt on the port side and the seating areas have a canopy above them, these balconies look down on the canopy.  Many of these midship balconies are larger that standard balconies because midships has a scalloped shape and the balconies are angled and odd shaped - look at the deck plans and you'll see what I mean.  Cabin E425 looks to have a particularly large balcony as a result as do a few others.  Was a no brainer for us to go for the obstructed balcony and of those this particular one due to the size.  However would have had no hesitation in booking any of the obstructed balconies given at the time the price difference to an inside.

Someone recently did a live review from the Sky and included photos on I think cabin E410 which is the equivalent cabin to E425 on the port side.

  13. Get a proper cream tea/afternoon tea from a local tea shop - one that uses traditional cornish clotted cream rather than the whipped cream used by princess for their cream teas.  Not knocking the Princess cream tea - absolutely love it but you can't beat a nice bowl of yellow, crusty clotted cream with your scones and jam. I would think Guernsey will have it's fair share of quaint tea shops.
