  1. Flashfearless, you will love Australia but the six day extension as said you will be lucky to see anything as flight time airport time transfers time!!!!!

I would spend more time in Sydney and Melbourne one day in Melbourne is not long enough.

Sydney your cruise has a overnight great but you will need to add 2 or 3 nights to this.

I have never been to Uluru but your flight time will be 2 to 3 hours.

If you have the time I would go to Uluru.

I would suggest organising your owe itinerary with your travel agent, or book it yourself if you have the time.

You will love the Viking ship and very thing about Viking.

I would all so google time distance between each state with flight time to give you a idea how big Australia is.

we live in Newcastle on the coast which is 2 hours north of Sydney.

Accommodation in Sydney a older hotel but the best views the intercontinental Sydney club floor amazing views.

    cheers Karen

I am also reasonably confident they are listening and will do the right thing.

However, I was somewhat disappointed when I recently read that they were completing a survey in UK to determine opinions on vaccinations. I consider that poor leadership, as real leaders make the correct safety decisions based on safety and not public opinion.

I got a survey from Viking Australian on Thursday! Which I filled out.
    Everyone needs to be vaccinated.

  3. Having to change our Baltic cruise to June 2022 we have the choice to book a DV1 both deck 7 and 8 are available.

I am worried about getting seasick! When we did the Amazon cruise we where on deck 3 and I was fine except one night going back into open seas.

There are two DV1 cabins left at the back of the ship 3096 and 3096.

I am so confused to what to do!!! Help

We stayed in 8001 in July for the Baltic Cruise on Sky.  The "secret door" is wonderful isn't it?  It's as though the top floor of the Explorer's Lounge is part of your living room.  We have 2 cruises coming up and we have booked 8001 for both.

You are right that it is surprisingly stable for a high forward cabin.  I have a tendency towards motion sickness and we were more than a little concerned after booking our first ocean cruise (again, July)  But I never felt even a bit nauseous.  Of course, it could have been the Meclizine.  😊

  5. If a Covid-19 vaccine is developed, I believe the World Health Organisation will make it mandatory for travellers to get the vaccine and provide documentation. My husband and I have postponed our cruise to the Baltic this July (🙁) to next year... Another vaccine to add to the little yellow book!

Interesting .. we have traveled with Finnair twice (very nice actually) but via Singapore codeshare with Qantas.

Sadly you are correct, transit via HK means refused boarding in Bergen.

I'm sure you have explored all of the options and I'm sorry you ended up on the wrong side of the airlines policy.

Please do keep us informed .. and if you do go I'll be amazed if you aren't delighted with the whole experience.

FYI .. we did a mix of included and optional excursions on the Homelands cruise (all good) but used Alla Tours in St Petersburg - Alla was fantastic.

    Regards, Cleo

    Thank you Cleopatra 99

We have booked TJ travel in St Petersburg and we are getting the train from Oslo to Bergen on our own.

Will keep you updated and thank you for your kind words.

    regards, Karen

    G'day Rabbit27.

I'm curious - is the $1,700 an airline fee or the booking company fee (or both?). Which airline ?

Many airlines have cancelled flights to HK so if you were in that category the airline would be responsible to re-book you. I'm not doubting what you say, I'm just surprised the airline has been so inflexible (perhaps start an on-line petition - I'll sign it).

Without wanting to tell you what to do - we did Homelands in 2017 (our first with Viking) and it was fabulous.

So if you have already paid a penalty for changing flights, I assume you may be facing another penalty if you change again ?

Obviously coronavirus is spreading all over the place and obviously you have to be concerned about your health first and foremost, but unless the Govt says 'do not travel' to the areas covered by the Homelands itinerary ... well I would still go.

But that is me and I don't pretend to know your situation.

Whatever you decide and whatever the outcome of the insurance claim, please come back and tell us what transpired.

We are booked on South America itinerary late in late 2020 and hope the situation will be settled well before then.

    Best wishes.

Hi we booked with Finnair business class and the terms where we lost $1200.00 due to our refund and BYO Jet fee was $250 per person. We have to wait 12 weeks for our refund because of the high demand can you believe that ( I hope they don’t go broke)

we tried to reroute but we where not allowed I will never book through a 3rd part again.

Our itinerary was Sydney to Hong Kong

Hong Kong to Helsinki - Helsinki to Oslo.

Our flight was not cancelled through Finnair and you can still book this flight today. So not Finnair fought. Just couldn’t take the risk that Viking policy would not change in letting up board the cruise in Bergen.

Yes cross fingers for your South America cruise.

will keep you updated on our claim.

If we go this July we will book our airfare closer to our departure.

    Best wishes😊

  8. We have to pay our full payment for our cruise Viking Homelands cruise date 11th July 2020.

Our final balance is due 12th March 2020 from Australia!

My travel agent is going to see if we can extend our final payment to closer to our cruise! Can only ask.

We booked this cruise April 2018 and so want to go, we have the money to pay but with the virus thing happening we are happy to go this year on our cruise so do we pay or do we transfer our $1000.00 dep to next year or pay our final balance now?

We had to cancel our flight last week because I booked our air fares in August 2019 and we had a 3 hour transit in Hong Kong, as Viking are not letting passengers on who have been through China etc with the cancellation through BYO jet we lost $1700.00 have just put a claim through not holding our breath can only try.

    not having much luck!

    Onwards and upwards

Whatever2020, you shouldn't bury your offer to answer questions here but rather you should start a new thread in the Viking Oceans forum. Title it something like "Live from 'Caribbean to Amazon'" and include your cruise dates. The Live in the title will indicate that you are currently on board and that you are posting comments and answering questions.

Thank you for your suggestions, silly me put the wrong month for the heading and of course to was to late to edit.

We leave tomorrow so all good.

I’m on the ship now if you have questions. I’ve really enjoyed the cruise and have learned so much from the lecturers and the shore excursions. It’s not a tour for everyone because the infrastructure for the tours isn’t as developed as other countries but the tour operators seem to be trying their best.

    Hi there Whatever2020

    Thank you for your reply.

It’s great you are enjoying the cruise so far! We are very excited as we leave Australia this Saturday.

My only question would be how have the sea conditions been? I no the Amazon river will be fine! Is the aircon cool in the dining areas? And have they left the pool roof open?

    Kind regards Rabbit27

Enjoy the rest of the cruise.

  11. Thank you !!! I have loved reading this blog every day, loved all the wonderful photo

My husband and I haven’t cruise together and have our first Viking cruise booked for December this year and have just booked the Homelands cruise for July 2020, I think I have come cruise mad and have been yet lol and after following this world cruise it will be on our bucket list. Safe travel all.

Socks are a must plus for the Ladies put a scarf or a sarong in your handbag to cover up! You will love India Jim enjoy

  13. Thank you BC Eddie in regards to Brazil we have travelled all over Asia and have lived in 3rd world countries so this will not impact on our visit.

It’s wonderful to hear you are a big fan of Viking and I hope we will be too as we have picked some other cruise with VIcking we would love to do.

We are looking forward to the Caribbean islands and the beautiful ship.

  14. We are sailing on Viking sea this December Caribbean to Amazon ( first time cruisers )

We are looking forward to this holiday I certainly hope this itinerary is not pulled as we had booked and payed for our airfares as we are flying from Australia.

I have read a review from Viking sky from the last trip in February and they loved it they have shared 21 photos and gave it 5 stars.

Yes I have been following all the threads and decided there are over 900 people on each cruises that have sailed already to the Amazon and only a hand full people have been disappointed so that’s why we have decided not to cancel.

So the count down starts for us!

  15. Got to wear the famous stinger suit yesterday on a trip to the Great Barrier Reef. A real pain to put on but even more fun to take off wet. A bit like I imagine peeling your own skin off. A helping hand is most welcome. Anyway we had about a mile walk down the docks past some nice looking restaurants and bars to our large power catamaran. The boat was air conditioned which worked well till the return trip when it seemed to stop cooling. And again it was very hot/humid. It was a long day but still, you have to see the GBR up close at least once. The water is stunningly blue and we docked at a barge like structure permanently moored at the reef. Snorkel gear was provided as was a small glass bottom boat. The guide on the glass bottom boat explained that the corals on the GBR were more "earth toned" than the bright corals in other locations. True, mostly brown, beige, pale yellow or white. Still, its the GBR. A problem, at least for us, was that this tour took 300 of us! The barge facility would have been comfortable at about 100. Just too many people trying to do the same thing at the same time for my liking. Still, got to see the GBR up close. Glad we did it. Would not do it again. Just one opinion. For $299 each it wasn't very "special". Hard to be with 300.

Hi Jim, happy you got too wear a stinger suit it seem it was more like a wetsuit my husband has one for diving and it’s very light weight but even his is hard to peel off when wet lol!

We live in Australia and have been to the GBR it is very expensive for us as well to do a day trip to the reef ! Australia is very expensive to travel that’s why we travel overseas each year.

We are doing our very first cruise with Viking In December the Caribbean and Amazon.

I have loved reading all the threads and blogs!

Enjoy the rest of Australia 🇦🇺
