  1. In which case they can book the regular fare, instead of gambling on the heavily discounted non refundable option and then complaining because it’s non refundable.
  2. If I buy a wine package on the first leg of a B2B and don’t use it all, what happens? Can I carry the remaining bottles over on the second leg? Do I have to collect the remaining bottles on the last night of the first leg and take them back to the cabin as if I was leaving the ship? We’ve never done B2B’s before.
  3. Will they serve French Press coffee at lunch in the Pinnacle Grill, if you ask?
  4. The email is a good idea. Even if you don’t get a response, there’s a chance the information will get passed on to the ship. And if not, the email was free. Enjoy your cruise!
  5. Good morning, all! An interesting collection of days, and thank you Graham @grapau27 for looking up the meanings for us! I enjoy baths, but they use too much time and water so the shower always wins out. Yesterday I drove DS back to Kelowna from the coast. The rain hit hard in the mountains, but at least it was off and on. I must admit that passing those big semis on a mountain highway in heavy rain and poor visibility with a drop on one side and a concrete divider on the other is not my favorite pastime! But now we’re here and cozy. The atmospheric river has hit, but I can stay inside and read and visit and tomorrow is supposed to be nice. @Rowsby I am so sorry for your loss, especially when you’ve already had such a difficult year.Yes, I’m sure they are all together now. @HAL4NOW Thank you for the picture of Haystack Rock. I just love Cannon Beach, but haven’t been there since before Covid. @ottahand7 Good on getting the deer repellent on your flowers on time. Your picture of the deer standing over the Lupinc and glaring at you through the window absolutely cracks me up! Happy Tuesday, everyone, and take care those with storm and flood warnings. At least on a BHB, if the water rises the ship does too and no one even notices.
  6. @Heartgrove Jack, my deepest condolences on the loss of Kelley. Your family is having such a difficult time, and I hope for peace and healing for all of you. May your brothers surgery go well. @smitty34877 Wow, if it isn’t one thing it’s another! Thank goodness you are all safe after the gas leak, but how scary! And with the added difficulty in getting Tana to safety in an emergency too! @ger_77 the angel wings are lovely, and a fitting momento for the parents. Soft, small, and easy to tuck into a keepsake box.
  7. Good morning, all! Hopefully I’m well past my Klutz in the Kitchen days, but I certainly had my moments! The meal and the wine both sound good, and would go well together. @kazu it is so good to see your post, Jacqui! I share your opinion of deer. They look so sweet to those who don’t know, but to those of us with gardens in deer country they are sadistic little vandals some times! Yesterday we went to North Vancouver for our great neice’s final ballet performance. She graduates this year and is going to university in Montreal in the fall. DS came down from Kelowna to see her grand daughter’s final dance, and is staying with us. Today she and I road trip back to Kelowna and I’ll stay for a couple of days. We’re going just as the next atmospheric river arrives, although we should vibe safely there before the worst of it hits. Happy Monday, and all, this rain wouldn’t matter if I was on a BHB!
  8. It’s not surprising that demand is declining. For the last two decades, cruise lines have been building ships less and less like ships and more and more like land based amusement parks. The target market has shifted away from travelers and towards those wanting a stationary vacation. Post Covid ( if we’re even at that stage yet) travelers still want to travel and have come back to the ships. The amusement park vacationers are suddenly aware of the difference between being on land and being at sea are more attracted to resorts they can drive away from any time they choose. That big new megaship market they’ve developed is falling away.
  9. And yes, the coffee she is drinking was grown on the trees (bushes?) seen in the background!
  10. First, I am sorry and appalled at the stress your wife went through with the incompetent testing lab! Secondly, I’ve found that you will not be asked for your ArriveCan app anywhere your passport is scanned with a computer. They are linked, and scanning the passport brings up all the ArriveCan data automatically. If a checkpoint is relying on eyes only document checks, then you get asked to show ArriveCan separately.
  11. DITTO Good morning, all! The roses are blooming, the birds are singing, and the coffee is hot. It’s threatening to rain later, but for now all is good. A good collection of days. The meal is a little too heavy on the bread for me, but I see a thinner crusted version there that might fit the bill! Sorry I missed yesterday, but it spared everyone from me going on and on about Taipei which we’ve been on extended visits to twice. Well, if you insist….😉 Looking out from our balcony in Taipei. The Moon Bridge in Dahu (Big Lake) Park. In real life it is right side up. DH on the Makong Gondola that runs for miles up the mountain from a point near the Taipei Zoo MRT station. From our trips out of town - DD drinking coffee at a cafe on the grounds of a Taiwan coffee plantation. Taroko Gorge, on the road to Hualien. Vistas small and large from our B&B in the mountain tea plantations of Alishan. The little bonsai on our deck echoed the pines far beyond it in the morning mist. Views from the boardwalk running from the house to the tea fields. Happy Wednesday, everyone, and happy planning for your next BHB adventure!
  12. Good morning, all! We don’t have cats, so cheese wins out for attention today. We have the ingredients for today’s meal, and it sounds good. I’ll go heavy on the broccoli and light on the pasta. The wine sounds good, but the drink sounds too sweet. Roseau (pronounced Rosie-oh by the locals) was our first stop on the 2020 World Cruise. We wandered off the ship and took a tour that was waiting with a comfortable 8 person van looking for customers. Our guide, Kirk Jeremy, was a riot and we had a great time. Here’s a few pictures I’ve been able to find. Roseau from the Amsterdam - signs of hurricane damage from a previous year are visible. The Anglican Church, which took a beating and is not yet repaired. The Amsterdam from a viewpoint above town. Same viewpoint. Kirk Jeremy entertaining with souvenir vendors behind him. At the botanical gardens - the bamboo house. This is a large circle of living bamboo forming walls with windows and doors cut in, and closing over high overhead inside forming a large hut. And of course a waterfall, up high where it rains most of the time. Then the water runs down into the valleys and coastal areas so they are well watered although they get much less rain. @ger_77 my thought are with you today at your birth mother’s internment. At least you will meet more of your birth family, and new chapters may come of this otherwise sad day. Happy Saturday, everyone! I’m enjoying my coffee outside in the sun with the roses and the birds. It’s ALMOST as good as being on a BHB! (Emphasis on the ALMOST)
  13. Unless you have a wide variety of climates to consider, packing for two months is no different than packing for two weeks. Bring as little as possible. No one will care if you wear the same shirt once every two weeks, and your cabin won’t look like a storage locker. Closet space on an 80 day cruise is identical to closet space on a 7 day cruise. The closets don’t expand. We’re getting ready for 220 days at sea. Every. Single. Piece. of clothing has to justify its right to luggage space. The struggle is real.😉 Besides, the money you would pay for shipping the extra bags will easily cover your laundry. The laundry by the bag is wonderful. The bag may look small, but it’s amazing how much you can stuff in there! Roll each item tightly and don’t leave any air pockets in the bag. When it’s returned, and you see the piles of folded clothes on the bed you won’t believe you stuffed all that into a bag! We used one bag a week, which is very reasonable.Between the hassle with Customs, the chance they may skip your port, and wasting your few hours in Kona doing laundry, the occasional bag of laundry is worth paying for.
  14. At the first wash, the reds may shift to blue and some of the greens may fade. The rest of the print will stay. After that, it will hold as long as it’s washed in cool water and not hot. The fabric is treated before printing to stabilize the prints and colours, just as cellophane has to be treated before it can be used as film for photography. Otherwise it won’t bond with the print. Normally linen gives me lovely golds and browns, but not greens. With this I tried a copper/iron dip and by sheer accident, left it in the solution long enough to hold greens deep in the fibres. The first wash removes loose colour that is sitting on the surface and hasn’t bonded. Then we will know for sure. It will be a week before that first wash. You know how your mother used to insist grass stains be washed immediately before they stayed? The same is true with Botanical prints, so you let them set before that first wash. This one was printed over a year ago, and washed 2 or 3 times.
  15. Thank you, and I’m thrilled with it! From everything I’d learned, what I did should have ruined the shirt and made a blotched, streaky mess. There are light yellow streaks in places, but they go with the sweep of the leaves give a wind blown effect.
  16. When we came home from the Zuiderdam with Covid, DH was feeling mildly ill and we both tested negative. The next day I felt off too, and we both tested positive. The body seems to react to the virus sooner than the home tests do.
  17. Good morning, all! Somehow it is Dragon Boat Festival, and I have not made Zongzi yet!😱 That will get corrected today! The quote makes a very good point, although I never thought of it that way before. The Zongzi will be tonight’s dinner, although I like the sound of the meal. The drink and the wine are worth exploring. This morning I made coffee and took it outside to enjoy in the garden before, the rain came. After the last two days of heat, the roses are putting on a show. The moment I stepped out the door, the rain came down in torrents, so the roses are being admired through the window instead. Yesterday we went to the travel doctor to start prepping for the World Cruise. After studying our itinerary he gave us typhoid and meningitis vaccines and declared us good to go. Surprisingly, he doesn’t think we need malaria pills this time around. He said he’ll study our itinerary in more depth and let us know if he missed anything. As it is, he doesn’t think we hit any of the malaria hot spots this time! Yesterday I printed a linen shirt that was ‘ruined’ by letting it sit a day after its iron/ copper dip instead of printing immediately. That accident has opened a whole new door. I’ve never had linen take those colours before! Happy Friday, and stay safe. I think staying safe involves boarding a BHB and escaping the rest of the world.🤔
  18. This. HAL no longer refers to the automatic daily tips as ‘gratuities’. They call it ‘crew appreciation’. In current HAL-ese, the word gratuities applies to something else. On our Alaska cruise in May, promotional OBC covered ALL of our crew appreciation, or whatever they’ve decided to call it today.
  19. Good afternoon, all! With working on a ship, Leaving the Office Early would have involved swimming, so it didn’t happen. The meal looks good. I’ve used both Butternut squash steaks and cauliflower steaks as a main when having vegetarian relatives over. The wine sounds good, which made me remember this. It struck me as funny. After a long, old spring June has arrived bringing warm weather with it. The garden is exploding. The roses are blooming and the banana plants are practically growing as I look at them. @dfish I’m glad the surgery is over and went well. May your recovery be quick and uneventful. @Sharon in AZ so sorry your DH isn’t well. I hope he’s feeling better and that you stay clear. At least we got home from our cruise before the stupid virus struck! Happy Thursday, everyone! I wonder if Queen Elizabeth would rather celebrate her Platinum Jubilee aboard a BHB?
  20. @AncientWanderer congratulations, Grandma Maxine!🎉🎉🎉
  21. Thanks, Lenda. I’ve passed the info on. What she does with it is up to her now. I spent half a day helping her choose a cabin. The next day she phoned HAL and switched cabins because she looked at the Accessibility PDF on the HAL site, and saw the exit closest to her cabin was not accessible. Neither she nor her cabin mate use a wheelchair. She thought not accessible meant the exits were ‘blocked off’ and no one could use them. I’m not sure why she wasn’t worried about all the stairwells on the entire ship being ‘blocked off’.🤦🏼‍♀️
  22. Does this mean you have to sit in a corner facing the wall for the entire flight?😉
  23. Thanks, everyone. That’s what I thought, but it’s worth checking. I’ll pass on the news.
  24. It also shows Zuiderdam with the Rolling Stone Rock Lounge and no BB King’s. When we were on her a month ago, BB King’s was the big event. I guess that’s just changed over.
