Glad you enjoyed your cruise.  Was there any discussion about the state of the LCD screens in the AT?  Thanks for the update.

As someone else has said and posted pictures, the port side screen was unaffected and operates as normal. The starboard one has been replaced with a steel frame and has white powder-coated sheet metal riveted to it. It has no LCD panels attached to it. I guess it was being used as a projector screen as shown in some pictures.

  2. Just returned from Barcelona last night. The May 5th sailing was great, ship was very clean and the crew were happy to be back to normal with paying guests. Had a good look around the damage zone. 99.9% of the passengers would never notice a thing unless they were following this thread. The wood deck around the AT pool has been replaced as has the wood decks either side of the AT. Some new sections of handrail, new glass and supports etc. There are a few seats missing in the AT that were likely damaged beyond repair so a row or two of seats were removed on the port side and reinstalled in other areas. As I said, unless you knew there was an incident and knew where to look, you likely would never notice. As far as propulsion, the ship is operating as normal.

It is simply amazing the amount of work these dockyards can complete in such a short time frame. Repairs are sometimes more work than if it was new work. Cadiz is obviously a professional operation. From the looks of things, they have the right tools and equipment to do things properly.

Came across a selfie a crew member took two days ago with Oasis in the background. Looks like they’ve replaced the aqua theater screen that took the brunt of the damage (I circled it in red)

I realize that people still think you need to “exchange “ money but for practical purposes what you are simply doing at an ATM is withdrawing your funds in the local currency and allowing your bank or credit union to process the exchange rate back at home.  Your best rates will always be to use a bank based ATM and to have a card which covers any transaction fees.

Thank you for your response. We have a trip to Rome from the port and my DW arranged with the driver to take us to an ATM to pay them. I think we will just pay cash. Not real cash.....Euros. LOL . 1 euro = a lot of money!!!!

Some shops might take dollars but you will get a rediculously low exchange rate.

I would bring Euro's with you and if you don't intend returning to Europe you can always give the crew any you have left in tips as the ship is based in Europe all summer and the crew will be able to spend them.

That was going to be my next question. I think the crew is paid in US funds and I wondered if, being in Europe, they would rather have Euros as opposed to US dollars for a tip.

In my experience Guest Services does not exchange currency.

During our 2 cruises on 2 different RCCL ships in Europe, there were 2 ATM’s. The one in the casino dispensed USD, the one near Guest Services dispensed Euro’s.

Otherwise, we just used the local ATM’s in town to get Euro’s..

Now, I’ve got a few bucks in various currencies at home. Just enough to get us settled in when we arrive in country. Whether we are visiting Canada, UK, or an EU country.

Thanks for your reply. We don't intend to exchange US money for Euros on the ship. I was hoping that we could get Euros from the ship. I assume the EU vendors might be hesitant to take US money.

Nothing really new in this pics but saw them this morning. From what I can tell most of the crew are exploring Cadiz for the next few days until they (hopefully) have to go back to work at the end of this week. I’m sure there will be more images the closer we get to the 5/5 sailing.

Thank You for posting! I guess we will just assume that all is on schedule and with the exception of the Aqua Theatre pool lifts, everything will work perfectly!

The show requires a great deal of coordination between the divers, swimmers, technicians, etc. When we were on board there seemed to be daily practice sessions. Undoubtedly the entire cast will have to get back in shape and ensure all systems are go for all participants. Hope everything works as planned!

Funny, our travel agent said the exact same thing! We can only hope that those who board the ship and want to see this show, get to do so. Thanks for your response.

  10. I'm so glad we went with the budget insurance carrier "outhouse luck". I said to my wife: "I know their office looks like a hole in the ground, but trust me" and we  ended up saving a fortune over the reputable carriers. I joke now, but I've spent the last two weeks curled up in the fetal position constantly wiping my tears off my laptop screen so I could follow this thread.
