The casino is the only way and they frown on you avoiding the 3% fee to get casino chips by loading up at a slot and then going to the cage to cash out. You can do it once but they will lock your card up after that and you'll have to go to the cage for a "naughty talk" lol but they will unlock it after that.

With millions of dollars in OBC due to C19 cancelations, I would not be surprised that Carnival blocks the casino route.  I also would think that they limit jewelry purchases.  So that limits services, premium restaurants, bar services and retail Shops. Why?  Large profit margins in these areas for Carnival.

I would not get to caught up in the stuff NCL is putting out. They are just trying to force the CDC to make a decision and setting up a lawsuit if they are denied from sailing.

The CDC said it is safe to travel if you are vaccinated so they are pushing the CDC to open cruising just like all other travel and sue if they are denied.

When sailing resumes kids will not be denied, vaccination will not be required.

CDC walked right into it when they stated last week that fully vaccinated people can travel.  DelRio knew that he could use their own words to trap them into starting cruising or sue them with various cruise lines. Then the states with cruise ports could also join the suit.  CDC is so obnoxious it will ignore the request.  That is the problem of bureaucracies once they get power, you will have to fight them to remove their corrupt fingers.

You missed the one they say will be "coming shortly" which are the Agreements for testing and quarantining with land based facilities and port authorities before the test cruising can take place

Your right.  I’m sure there are more major steps I over looked.  This just supports that cruising in July is a low probability.

  4. The odds are very slim for cruising in July.  Here are some of the major steps that need to be completed to sail:

    1.  CDC presents the protocol for the test cruises.  The cruise lines are still waiting and the CDC (not being a friend to cruising) is in no hurry to provide the test requirements.

2, Test requirements are finally released.  The cruise lines will have to review the requirements to design their plan.  What would be involved in the processes is not known at this time because the CDC is not a friend to cruising and is not in a hurry to release them.

    3.  Test cruise period begins.  How long is the cruise and what’s involved before, during or after the cruise will not be understood until the CDC announces the protocol.

    4.  Assuming your favorite cruise line passes the test cruise(s) they will then get be given the green light from the CDC to begin regular operations utilizing the accepted protocol.

    5.  Staffing up the ship and other logistics.  Staffing will probably be one of the more difficult issues that cruise lines will have.  Former employees may already have found suitable employment and will not return. So new employees will have to trained to provide adequate service.

Some cruise lines have stated they will need 60 to 90 days before a ship is ready to sail with passengers.  Maybe it could be shorter, but cruise lines will not want to hire people if they are not completely sure they can sail.

So to answer the OP question will Carnival sail out of Baltimore in July, based what needs to be done from now to his cruise date, I would have to say NO.

One last thing I would like to add:  the CDC is slow walking the protocol and the entire process.  I think it’s time for the Cruiselines to lobby Congress and state they are going to file a lawsuit in Federal court to free themselves of the CDC control. No other business is America is controlled by this department.

  5. This is Carnival setting up the ground rules for the protocols on starting up cruising. Once they announce the new rules to sail, be it May, June or any other month, you will know the rules if you want to cancels because the new protocols are too uncomfortable for you.  This way you can bail on your cruise and know the rules.  Very smart of Carnival to lay down the ground rules before the Protocol Announcement.  That will be coming soon.

  6. Fun Ship Freddy.  Kids loved him. In 2004 we bought the plush toy for our young daughter.  She loved it.

Twelve years later we bought her the funnel hat in theIr $10 store. She wanted it for crazy hat day in high school.  I am shock what the hat goes for on eBay, over $80.

We thought Fun Ship Freddy was a great mascot.

  7. Jax port has been home to numerous Fantasy ships and the Carnival Miracle.  They all are capable of going under the bridge. But that is not the future.  If Jax wants to keep the cruise industry they must move the cruise port to the other side of the bridge.  Then they could have various sizes of cruise ships.  With all that said, the truth is the city and the port authority  does not want to send the money to make that happen.

  8. It should be noted at all hump balconies show a size of 62 sq ft, where as regular balconies are 44 sq ft.

Here is the info for that cabin:

    View: window and extended balcony
    Bathroom: shower, toilet, sink
Features: flat-screen TV, telephone, 110 AC current, USB outlets, individual climate control, hair dryer, safe, non-stocked mini bar unit, 2-closets, desk and ottoman seat, sofa
Balcony Features: 2 patio chairs and table / balcony partition opens to: Information not available at this time

  9. They will call the ship Mardi Gras for a few years so you can buy branded merchandise just with that name.  Then they will announce that the Mardi Gras name has changed to “Carnival Mardi Gras” so you can buy new Relogoed branded merchandise.  Example of good marketing.

And yet, Carnival cruises out of Mobile cannot command a higher cruise fare compared to its compset of Jacksonville and New Orleans. Cruises from Mobile are deeply discounted and it’s likely a ship was only placed there due to an overcapacity in other markets.

Carnival went for years without Mobile. They’ll be fine without it again in the future. The options it can provide are pretty limited also.

Another issue for Mobile is its limited size airport.  In many cases people have to fly into Pensacola Airport or New Orleans.

  11. The fastest way back to cruising will involve COVID Quick Result tests. A test that can have a valid trustworthy result within 30 minutes or less.  All passengers and employees will be tested every time they board the ship.  At embarkation and returning from port testing would occur.  There are numerous companies working on these trustworthy tests including 3M/MIT and Sorrento Pharm (google their work).  Hopefully as these test are developed and commercialized we all can return back to the sea!

So why 2 of the oldest ships in the fleet are on the way to Turkey????????

Fantasy is the oldest, built it in 1990, but the Inspiration was built in 1996.  The ships older than Inspiration are Ecstasy built in 1991, Sensation 1993, Fascination 1994 and the Imagination 1995.

Only three of the eight Fantasy class ship have not been upgrade with balconies (Fantasy, Imagination and Inspiration).

Spirit and a Panorama are in a Manila. There are a few ships going from South Africa going to India (Ecstacy, Fascination ) I think the Valor and a Magic are off coast in England. If the crews have been offloaded to the transfer ships and they just have basic Manning there would only be less than 150-200 onboard so offloaded/supplies would be less often.

The Carnival Breeze is anchored near Dover, England

but if you check one of the many cruise ship trackers/mappers all 8 carnival ships set to sail in August are clustered together off of Miami and South of Freeport.

just to clarify, the Carnival Breeze, which is one of the 8, is now off United Kingdom.  The ship brought European employees back home. I’m sure when it returns it will join the other ships

Not one bit.    Our cruise is on the Breeze in April and this will be our 11th.

Just like any other illness that goes around, I am not going to worry about this.

(knock on wood), I have never gotten sick from a cruise, or airline or any other mass vacation, and I never get sick in my every day encounters.   I am 52, DD is 14 and Mom is 78.   I have to say, we have really strong immune systems (and we aren't germaphobes who use disinfectant sprays or wipes or preventive meds for vitamins either).

So how did your Cruise go?  I guess your cruise was canceled.  We all now know what is keeping Cruise Executives up at night.  I hope you will rebook soon and get your 11th Cruise.
