We had a similar experience with Air Canada a while back.  They have really handled these ongoing crisis' very well with great customer service.  AirTransat........different story.

Another reason to book with the company that got the bail out. They are more likely to be financial stable to not screw over customers.

I just finished the Air Canada check in for our flights tonight and the check in process has the same attestation wording as the form, so I'm guessing we won't need the hard copy form. I'm still taking the completed and signed form, because if anyone wants it I would rather be able to just pull it out instead of trying to fill it out in line!

I got an email from Air Canada about my Sunday flight.

It said that form would be done online but that 'others choose to bring a hard copy."

    Hello

I am sure I have seen this on this forum but I can not seem to find it after 2 hours of scrolling.  For Canadians sailing Carnival what documents or cards did you need for boarding for covid 19 besides your negative test?  I have read the details numerous times and just want to be 100% sure I have correct ones.  Thanks in advance.

I'm cruising on December 26th and have the following:

1 - print out of my 3 vaccine receipts plus the QR code with a list of all 3 of my vaccines (I'm in Ontario).

2 - print out of my negative antigen test

    3 - passport/nexus card

4 - boarding pass, luggage tags on luggage if necessary.

    • Thanks 1
  4. Carnival has never done testing for Canadians on board.

They only do testing for B2B and those that are unvaccinated.

This sounds horrible but that makes a lot of sense because if you aren't testing for Covid, then there is no Covid.

On my roll call someone asked what happens if you test positive after you get off the cruise ship. The answer is nothing.

You don't have to tell the cruise line and they don't have to deal with it.

I think it's amusing as so many Canadians were whining to John Heald about how all the other cruise lines do testing for Canadians..

I booked at Costco and Walmart, which only allow booking for 1 person per time slot…more inconvenient but half the cost of Shoppers. My fault, I was on the late side for booking appointments. We will try going to the first appointment all together and see if they will take all 4 of us. Testing on the 23rd since we fly the 24th. I’m going to have a rapid test tomorrow at my workplace as well to ease my mind, and will test my daughter as well (works in a restaurant and grocery store, and went “clubbing” last week for her 19th bday…she’s our biggest concern for Covid 😬)

Glad you have everything planned out.

We have to test on Christmas Day.. fun fun. Luckily the Shoppers on Merivale Road is open that day.

Agreed, very good points. It would have been better to test here in Canada before the flight, but we fly at 6:45am on the 24th, so very early airport testing would be our only option. If there’s availability, I may look at changing to a later flight. I’m just happy that I was able to secure our antigen test appointments - the 4 of us have 4 different times in different locations around Ottawa 😏 I don’t have a problem with doing the testing, but that part of the planning has been challenging.

    I'm in Ottawa as well.

You weren't able to get appointments at the same place?

Rexall and Shoppers allows you to book up to 6 people at the same time.

If I read your info correctly you need the test on the 23rd right?

On Southwest, it doesn't matter when you stand up and gather near the door - your boarding order is determined by your check-in.  Absolutely no value in joining the fray until they call the group before you.  And, as someone else mentioned, it's less of an issue with Southwest because they let you check bags for free, so the competition for overhead space isn't nearly as fierce.  Southwest really, really upset me a couple times earlier this year - they're in a race for the bottom, as far as I'm concerned - but I'm still all in on their boarding and baggage policies.

I fly Air Canada mostly and sometimes Westjet.

Both airlines charge for luggage and so many people pack everything into the biggest carry on you can imagine and thus rush to be the first in line of their zone to get a spot to put their luggage.

I remember flying home from Alaska and walking past our gate a good hour before boarding was to start and the line up went past the main area. I thought it was boarding for the flight before but after we got food and came back we're like "oh wow no it's our flight"

Yes, your muster station is shown on your boarding pass.  HOWEVER, you won't be able to generate a boarding pass until after online check-in.  That URL mentioned by someone else will only show you your account summary and luggage tags, but not your boarding pass.

    To clarify:

Prior to check in the link posted above will allow you to see your account summary and luggage tags.

It will not have your boarding pass, thus no times or muster station.

After you check in your documents will have your boarding pass, with muster station.

Folks. Talk me off the cliff here. What are the chances of the US introducing border closures again? For us driving to our cruiseports that would be pretty devastating. I know nobody is the oracle here. I figured there would be some whispers out by now if this was something to happen. (We leave on Wednesday the 22nd of Dec)

If you are driving to your cruise port you are in a much better position then if you are flying.

Now if they close the U.S. border then yeah your'e stuck. but we'd all be stuck.

You can drive back no matter what.

You'd have your own car, and packed for the weather.

We departed Quito on December 14th at 2 am, connected through Houston and arrived at Toronto Pearson at 2 pm on the 14th. My DW had the neon green sticker on her passport, I drew the short straw and had the neon red, randomly chosen for the PCR test. Once outside customs and baggage claim, entered the line for the test. A health representative was walking through the line asking if

anyone had already set up their ASMO Swich Health account. As I had I was moved to a second line that had me talking with an agent in less than 1 minute. Test completed with a nurse less than 3 minutes later. Told I had to isolate at home until results were back on the ASMO website. They arrived, negative,  at 8 pm on the 15th. Not really a big deal, especially if you decide you want to travel in these times.

So the important take away is to set up an account with Switch Health beforehand, just in case.

That pretty much summarizes my understanding as well.  Given that they don't REQUIRE any type of testing, it makes one wonder what percentage of US airlines, bus lines and rail lines are transporting around COVID positive passengers who aren't aware of  the fact that they are a health risk. Given the rates in the US, I'm betting there a lot of COVID + passengers out there.

I have posted my car rental plan on another social media  website and someone was very quick to remind me I can fly to Buffalo and then drive across the border.

My response was "well I'd rather not be un ethical.."

But yes it is scary to think you can be on public transportation in the U.S. without needing a covid test.

I would not want to fly within the U.S. for that exact reason.

I agree.  Its like the people who line up at southwest for their flights 20 minutes before any notification . or race to them luggage carousel.  I just stand out of the way haha

    Hehe.

But isn't that because they are not checking baggage to save money and thus need to use up the overhead bin, and under the seat?

  13. In regards to cancelling versus rescheduling:

It seems like Carnival is allowing people to move their cruise.

I'm not sure if they are giving full refunds.

I'm not sure if they are giving FCC for a future cruise booking.

I know of two people on my Dec 26th roll call who have switched their cruise to later next year.

My future cruises are booked with RCCL.  They have a "cruise with confidence" policy.  It is in writing.  Cancel for FCC up to 48 hours before your cruise.  With Covid so unpredictable still, I feel that is my preferred option.

That is a very good point to mention, even though the die hard Carnival fans will get mad.

Other cruise lines have different ways of handling the changing Covid rules in regards to cancelling/rescheduling/refunds/etc.

  15. I thought the mad rush was all the people wanting to get on the ship so they could drink their 15 drinks, be super drunk, and now remember the rest of the day 🙂

Honestly my roll call sounds like a bunch of alcoholics.

Every single one of them boasting about a 10:30am check in wants to get on the ship to drink. Nothing to do with smoking at all.

We'll see how long the no smoking in casino lasts.  I've been on a bunch of cruises and the smoking area of the casinos seem way more crowded than the non-smoking area, though I do understand why non-smokers would rather not be around smokers.

Im from Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Many years ago the entire province went smoke free inside public areas.

Many people said that those businesses that depended on smokers would go out of business.

They said that the casinos, bingo halls, and bars would be empty. No one would go to those places if you werent allowed to smoke.

Well years later we have adjusted. Smokers go outside to smoke. Or dont smoke at all.

I know of at least one casino nearby that has decided they will not go back to allowing smoking inside (they had made that rule to be able to open during Covid).

Its going to last a while because unless the entire casino is empty because of the no smoking rule, they are making money.

I actually had the same thoughts prior to our cruise last month. Fortunately, we tested negative before our flight back to YUL, but I had researched the basics of a FLL to Montreal car trip. Be careful about availability and cost though. A few months ago when I first started researching the one way car rental scenario as a last resort fallback, I could rent at FLL and actually drop off in Montreal, for $US2000 !.  If I rented cars at each intermediate hotel stop on the way, say Charlotte and New York, the costs were much lower, but still around a grand.  When I looked just before our trip in mid-November, prices for rental cars had skyrocketed and availability was massively reduced.  Have you considered coming back by rail?

I looked online and Budget and Avis that are located at the Orlando airport allow cross border rentals.

Enterprice, Thrifty, Dollar, and Hertz do not.

Avis charges $775 for cross border, Budget says it does as well but on the Air Canada website it doesn't say anything.

So yes the cost for a 3 day car rental would be about $1200 CAD.

We haven't thought of rail, however I used to drive down to Florida every March Break with my parent when i was in elementary school, and so my son and i are actually a little excited if that happens.

There was a report on the TV news a few days ago about the Switch kits that you can order from Air Canada if you are an Aeroplan member.  Some folks were not happy using the kits as they did not work for all and causing some stressful moments about what to now do to get the PCR test before entering Canada.

You should always have a back up plan, no matter what.

This pandemic has outlined the number of people who have travelled out of the country in the past (cruise, AI, etc) who never planned for the unexpected.

While you can't fly home on a commercial, public flight, it's my understanding that private flights home, as offered by Celebrity to passengers testing positive during the cruise, including pre-disembarkation testing for those requiring it, are permitted.

You will not be able to board a public flight to come to Canada until:

    • 14 days have passed or
    • you present a medical certificate confirming that your symptoms are not related to COVID-19

When you are able to enter, you will need to follow testing and quarantine requirements to keep Canadians safe, particularly given the new COVID-19 variants in Canada and around the world.

    https://travel.gc.ca/travel-covid/travel-restrictions/answers/citizen-symptoms-air

You need a blog or YouTube chanel. People would pay money for all the detailed important information you give out 🙂

    Yes. Private flights are good.

Although I am not rich and fancy and thus have never booked on Princess or Celebrity that offers flights home on private planes 🙂

For land crossings (we are driving to our sailing in Baltimore) should we test positive are we able to cross back into Canada via a land crossing with a positive test within the 14 day period or are we required to quarantine in the US?

Click on the government website link that I posted in one of my previous posts.

All the correct, up to date information is listed.

And the answer is yes. You can drive back across the border.

I’m assuming you are all referring to “ land crossings”. If your flying and tested positive prior to your flight home, the airline will refuse your boarding pass and therefore, you need to be quarantine in that Country.

Yes. Sorry. I had responded to numerous posts on numerous websites.

Right now if you test positive while coming off a cruise in the Unites States you CAN NOT fly home.

So the solution is to drive across the border and quarantine at home.

If you are a 3 day's drive home from your port, like me (Orlando to Ottawa) that is very doable and is one of my plans depending on what happens when I get off the cruise ship.

Others had said you would be stuck in the United States, which is untrue.

Adding in the conversation about health insurance, if you are feeling well enough to drive home then no need to worry about health insurance.

Oh and my plan involves renting a car since I'm flying to Orlando so no car there.
