OP, it's a nice idea - trying to do something about it other than just complain about it online with the rest of us:p.
BTW, I just took my first RCI cruise last month. Live (and talented) Reggae/Calypso band on the pool deck every day. It was really nice to have that on a cruise again.;):D
I really think I'm going to have to try Royal (SIGH)...Just tired of Carnival's cutbacks

It's on my life to do list. Thanks for sharing!

They reminded me of Culver's, if you've ever tasted a burger from that chain

It amazes me that you just don't get it.... NOTHING was ever "free"... It was included in your fare... Fares are lower or the same as they were 25 years ago yet all the costs have gone up cosiderably. Instead of rasing all the fares, the cruise lines have figured out a way to stay profitable with a low base fare by giving the guests..... CHOICES!! It can't be both ways. You want everything included, be prepared to have the fare go up around 50%. Some people aren't interested and just want the lowest price point for a vacation... Others want to spend more for an upgraded experience. Why should those who aren't interested in those things subsidize it for those who are? What is so hard to understand about that?
Cruise lines are in business to make a profit. This isn't a secret.... If you want everything included in your base fare, there are other upscale lines that do this. Of course, you don't pay $79 a day....
I'm not an economics major by any means but I know Carnival does A-OK! (One just has to look at my bar bill!) - or the price of pictures or excursions. What a markup!

My examples are FTTF and specialty dining restaurants onboard. I even don't understand paying for the specialty shakes and desserts, or cappuccinos in the dining room. I'll just stick to regular coffee thanks, even though I previously enjoyed their (free) cappuccinos. I am not cheap by any means but I am savvy. I refuse to patronize specialty restaurants (the MDR food is wonderful enough, as it should be), and in my opinion first to the fun may only save you a half hour here and there. Are people that impatient? You're on a cruise, it's not like you have to get to work in a hurry! What's next, charging to have your luggage delivered to your stateroom? Where does it end? That's right, why WOULD the nickel and diming by Carnival end if everyone keeps shelling out?
-
wow people actually buy this? Don't mean to be negative here but I'm surprised by the enthusiasm. Because you are impatient you choose to spend more money? Again, this is a question, not a put down.

I just looooved new Orleans. We were wondering if they would still be drinking on Bourbon Street in the morning- thanks for answering that! I also loved your picture of those stupid chickens outside of KFC! Your meet and greet looked so fun. I got a picture with Jaime on my cruise. My whole family I sailed with just loved her. She helped my mom down some steep stairs. She is just a doll!

Cheese plate
I never saw or had a dessert that especially appealed to me. So most nights I went with the cheese plate.
I love Olive Garden's desserts as well! Especially their lemon cream cake. Wish Carnival had desserts as good as the Olive Garden! Their desserts are better than their meals.

Anyone know if Carnival offers anything like this? If not I say they should! I have now recruited 6 people that are avid Carnival cruisers who had NEVER cruised before and probably never would have without my prodding! Just like myself- I never even CONSIDERED cruisng until I met my husband. (thought it was just for boring old folks )

I LOVED Sunshine. I don't understand why everyone complains about buckets catching water and sewer smells- would that really ruin your cruise? Didn't ruin mine! If that's the worse that happeds on a vacation, my gosh you are just too perfect and should never take any vacation! I do sympathize with OP over your toilet malfunctions however
-
Why would a brief sewage smell or bucket catching water ruin your experience? Big deal! I LOVED Sunshine, except for the too often country music and hip hop played. Wish they had more of a variety in music, but everything else was great! The best food I have EVER tasted on a cruise
-
The music by the pool was often country. LOTS of country. I hate country. A better variety would have been more pleasing. Kind of ruined things for me

Carnival's entertainment has always been pretty good. Not the best always, but entertaining. If I want to see a big name I would see them on land. I also boycott the "tariff" restaurants. Food in the main dining is good enough (and excellent!) for me

I'd say extra ziploc bags. When I opened my suitcase after being on the plane I found that some of my liquid items had leaked and one ziploc bag even ripped.
-
No cocktails in the hot tubs...sorry. (although I have seen people sneak them)...Shhhhhhhh:eek:
We were just served cocktails in the Sunshine hot tub! It was nice!
-
You've been extremely helpful Golfadj! Do you work for CC? :)
-
only I wish we could switch ships. For all I've read I'm not thrilled about Sunshine
-
Taking a limo with 6 family members to Midway airport in Chicago tomorrow to New Orleans for 2 nights then sailing on Sunshine! I woke up this morning SOOOOO happy!!:)
-
2 of my biggest reasons for cruising is nonstop drinks and food! So our bill for the 2 of us (hubby drinks as well) is about $1000. We take 1-3 shore excusrions and buy lots of pictures too

Yikes my husband and I just recently got over being sick DAYS before our upcoming cruise this Sunday. We felt so lucky it wasn't DURING our cruise. What a waste. So sorry about your experience!
-
I agree with you OP 100 percent. Had a balcony once and it was for our honeymoon. After that I could never justify the extra cost. I too like to be where the action is and only sleep or shower in my cabin
-
I'm interested in the replies as well. My son has nut, fish, and peanut allergies and I don't know if I would ever cruise with him- too nervewracking!
-
bring a nightlight. The cabins are notoriously dark at night and if you get up to go to the bathroom it really helps
-
very interesting perspectives. I prefer to cruise with less kids as well so I find Jan. and Feb. the best times without as many kids (I have kids, I'm not a kid hater, just prefer not to cruise with so many). Thanks all!

I agree I'd gladly pay extra. I don't want to sail on Walmart of the Seas. If Carnival had this in the past, why not now? If the rates have to rise a bit- so be it! Such is life! Everything goes up! Just stop the cutbacks if you ask me!
