Thank you for your wonderful review! I can't wait to look for "Quick Pitta" for one of our lunches in Athens...and, my daughter wants to do the fish pedicure. It'll be fun to see if she can convince her boyfriend to do it too.
I have a question about the port. You mentioned it was a cluster...what time did you get there and would you recommend going any earlier or later to avoid some of the issues? I'm getting the impression that it's not really a cruise terminal like we're used too and we'll just have to have patience, no matter what time we go. Would you agree?

I'm getting a no on that.
All of the dividers open, but when open, half of them cover the doors leading out from the cabin. They would only open those when cleaning or when rough seas required the cabin doors to be sealed.
2305 7C 185/45 = 230 square feet
Beds: two twin beds (convert to king)
View: window and cove balcony
Bathroom shower-toilet-sink
Features: Interactive LCD TV, telephone, 110 AC current, individual climate control, hair dryer, safe, minibar, 3-closets, desk and ottoman seat, sofa and coffee table
Balcony Features: 2 patio chairs and table / balcony partition opens to: 2301
Thank you for providing this information. I have the next two cabins up from 2301 booked for our Med cruise (2297 & 2293), and based on what you provided, it looks like we'll be able to open the partition between those two cabins. That will be great!

Thank you for taking the time to do this. I'm looking forward to your review. I hope you'll share what your kids thought of the trip. I'm traveling with 3 kids of similar age as yours...my son, my daughter and my daughter's boyfriend (who happens to be my son's best friend). And it's a first time to Europe for all of us.

I booked this cabin for my mom, son ,who is an adult, and myself because it seemed like a good deal. I didn't realize it was geared to families with young children. Would you think this is a non issue for us or should I try to get a cabin in another area?
Definitely a non issue. I have my kids booked in one and they're 23 and 20. They're looking forward to having access to the family lounge.

Thank you for this outstanding photo review! I really appreciate all the hard work that went into it and thank you for the additional links to more of your amazing photos. We're staying at the same hotel in Barcelona and it was wonderful to see all the additional photos you have of the hotel and the area.

Thank you so much for your thoughts on your cabin. I hope the elevator issue gets resolved quickly. Seems like that would be a big complaint for a lot of people.

Were you happy with the location of your cabin? Any noise issues from above? I've got that same cabin and the one next to it for our Med. cruise in September! I LOVE the cove balconies and getting to be so close to the water.

Add me to the list of fans of your photography...your photos are extraordinary. It's always nice to find another Sony geek.
I meant to say...and, your review too! Love your humor!

Thank you so much for such kind words. :)

We choose the Tryp Apolo Hotel through Carnival as well. I plan on reporting back with details and photos in a post cruise photo review. We sail May 14th, 2016. Not sure your sail date but look for my review starting around May 25th.
I'm looking forward to your review! We chose the Tryp Apolo for our September cruise too...but, ours puts us in Barcelona during their annual La Merce festival. It's going to be interesting to see what Barcelona is like with 2 million people descending on it for the festivities.

Worked for me too! Thank you!

Thank you all so much for the help. I'll plan on the Thameslink for the trip in and a private car for the trip out. This is going to be such a fun trip! Thanks again!

My party of 4 will be arriving at Gatwick at 2:00pm on a Friday and need transportation to our hotel near the Tower of London. Would you recommend we take the Gatwick Express to Victoria and then a taxi (or prearranged shuttle) from there to the hotel? Or, do you think the Thameslink would be a better alternative?
I'm traveling with my mother in her late 70's and two teenagers so I'm looking for convenience for my mom after the long flight from Los Angeles. None of us have been to Europe before so I don't know how long getting through customs usually takes and if we'll be in the commute time getting to the hotel. We'll all have one piece of luggage each and a carry-on to maneuver.
And, we won't be returning to Gatwick, we'll fly out of Heathrow to Athens a few days later...if that makes a difference.
Any transportation suggestions would be appreciated.

If you look back I am the one that said there were still 7 months and thousands working. I was trying to calm people down before it got crazy. I talk to John daily and I know his reasons for hating CC and me asking him to give a statement is NOT why. Now next time please mind your own. Thanks
My apologies for not 'minding my own'. I am a long time member of CC and see so much positive sharing and helpful tips and comments about Carnival. I find it disheartening that Carnival's Brand Ambassador doesn't see those positives (as you've now confirmed he hates CC). Which is why it bothered me that this latest negative comment was brought to his attention.
Again, my apologies for stepping in where my opinion wasn't wanted, I just hope that you use your connection to also share the positives of this site. And, if there's anything we can do to help JH see those positives, please share that info. I doubt I'm the only one that would like to see his negative perception of CC change.

Message From JH when asked about Vista being behind
"where would they get this from.........how can anyone outside of Carnival even begin to think that? Sometimes CC really gets on.......never mind. Anyway, she is on schedule, all is well and any such rumors should be completely ignored. Cheers"
No wonder he hates CC. If he gets asked about every baseless rumor mentioned on this site it must take up a huge amount of his time.
Why even bother him with this? As already stated by others there are 7 months still and thousands of people working on it...there's no reason to think it's not on schedule.

Wanted to play around with the Time Lapse app as well as the add-on Tilt Shift program.
Thank you for sharing your experience with this. I've been curious about trying it so I really appreciate that you included your volume of shots, time to process and battery information. Very helpful!

Price Drop today! Think it may have something to do with the Liberty fire?? I'm on the June 21, 2016 sailing in an 8D Balcony. Got a $160 price drop just now. Form online was down so I called Carnival's 800-number and she did it super quick!
It's a mystery on what triggers the price drops. I just checked our sail date, Sept. '16, and our price went up. It was lower yesterday. Congrats on your $160! That's awesome!!

Sharon, check out Zackiedawg and Pierces photo sites (they are on this thread), you can't do what these guys do with a P&S. Most of their shots are what you did with your daughter, taking pictures on things you love.
John
Thank you for this advice, John. I've spent way too much time today admiring Dave and Justin's incredible images...reading Dave's articles and looking through Justin's lens and camera specific images (I now have a very real goal to keep working on developing my skills and maybe get that 10-18mm before my very first trip to Europe, and Mediterranean cruise, next year). I'm sure I'll be lurking around on their sites a lot now. Very inspiring!

When you intentionally or accidentally exceed the limits of the sensor/film to record a scene...claim "Artistic License" and make up a artsy explanation of why you did it!! :)
Love this advice!
Thank you for your kind comments. I really appreciate them.

Thank you so much for all your help, Globaliser. That will make it even easier if we can include the LHR-ATH leg as well.
I also appreciate your comments about how the best deal might not be when dates are first released.
-
Do I understand this correctly? You're thinking of buying a ticket from California to LHR and LGW to BCN, and then BCN to California (by whatever route), but you intend to miss the LGW-BCN flight?
Deliberately missing a flight is often not a good idea. On most airlines, you'll probably find that as soon as you miss the LGW-BCN flight, the BCN-California flights will be cancelled.
Which airline(s) are you looking at?
And what are the origin and destination of your cruise? Is it a Barcelona-Barcelona round-trip?
Never flown internationally so this is all new to me. And we haven't purchased the flight yet, still doing the research. I appreciate the help in figuring this out. If not taking the connection is a problem we definitely won't book this flight...as there are other options. This one just offers the premium economy price at a significant savings over doing a roundtrip to LHR and then open jaw ticket for the ATH-BCN portion.
The flight is British Airways...SFO to BCN roundtrip, with the connection on the way stopping at LHR and departing from Gatwick (5 hour connection). On the return, BCN to SFO, the connection is LHR without the Gatwick leg.
The cruise actually leaves out of Athens, so we plan to stay in London for a few days before and would book a one way from LHR to ATH. Cruise ends in Barcelona.
Thank you for the assistance!
Big Bus or Original Bus HOHO tour?
in British Isles/Western Europe
Posted
I've been going back and forth between these two as well. Original offers a night tour through the summer, if that helps. It's listed in the news section of their website. Departs at 8pm with additional tours departing at 8:30pm on Fridays and Saturdays.
