  1. There is a $5 per folio chat feature that allows messaging between others on the ship who also have the chat feature. It is accessed through the Hub app and the app must remain open to receive messages. The $5 cost is for the length of the cruise and can only be accessed by one device at a time. My understanding of what you need is:

    • Hub app installed on all mobile devices you wish to use
    • Chat feature purchased for $5 (total for length of cruise) for each person who wants to communicate (so your group might need only 1 if the boys are sharing a device and chatting with other kids but not you; 2 if boys share and parents share; 3 if boys have each and parents share (or parents each/boys share); 4 if each passenger has - assuming Mom, Dad, 14 yo, 13 yo)
    • A folio (passenger id) can only be active on one device at a time. If you have both a tablet and a phone, the chat can only be used by one and will disconnect from the other.

I think those in the same cabin are automatically able to chat, but I'm not familiar with how you access other passengers. There should be tech support (likely near guest services) to help with any questions.

    Hope that helps:)

To chat with others you're cruisin with, OR those you've just met, you only need to put their folio number in and it looks them up. Kinda like a ship- directory. Most of the time now it works great. Back when Carnival introduced this for the masses, not so much.

  2. I was interested in this feature also. I did some looking on the boards and seems like I saw a post saying how terrible it was and not even worth the $5. Seems like it was in a post talking about internet speeds.
We've used the Hub in-app chat feature on our last 3 cruises. We REALLY love it when we're cruisin with others OR even when it's just us 2 alone in lieu of the stickie notes thingie. There WAS a problem with messages being not delivered OR very very late. Lol fortunately for us I learned here on CC just how important it is to NOT close the app. Apparently it needs to be opened (just don't exit it, is all) in order for the messaging to go thru. ALSO, refreshing it periodically seems to help. All in all it's a good app. We've got 3 more booked for Sept, Feb, and Aug and will be using it on all 3[emoji3]

sn: It's Soooo much better than those annoying walkie-talkies!

Hahaha we DID use those, years ago...

  3. been answered, unless there is a new problem
I'm not being a jerk here, BUT obviously the OP does not know the answer to the question, thus posting it. Lol I don't come here daily and had not yet heard what the outcome, if any, was. It sounds like you might know, so would/could you please enlighten us with whatever happened?

    It'd be greatly appreciated [emoji3]

  4. I saw this and thought i'd share on this board. This makes a great kiddie pool. And you can just throw it out when the day is done.

What a great idea!!! I just sent the link, and the link of the org post to our daughter for our 18mo grandson! He'll love it AND she will too! Lol maybe her and our sil will now (slightly/somewhat) relax when they come visit with the lil one...

  5. I'm pretty sure carnival has the same menu's for all 5 night cruises so they can order in bulk and save money
Says the one who's ONLY been on CCL once. AND down talks them on multiple threads... I'm pretty sure you're wrong. On the 1st... I'm pretty sure that ALL mass market Cruise Ships/Lines DO buy in bulk though. Lol just One Cruise for One Ship would necessitate that, by sheer volume alone...

  6. my experience is that most of the people in the GS line the night before are because they were called down due to Carnival wanting to know how their account will be settled.
Honestly, I've not ever had first-hand experience/knowledge of the actual WHY'S of GS being much more crowded on last nite & debarkation morning...

Only gone by zucks cruise groups years ago, and what I've been told online... I guess there's a lesson here to not believe so easily of the WWW.

I defer to your account because you've had personal experiences with it...

  7. Maybe I’m daft, but why would you need to keep a room tray for Lido? Don’t they have plenty of trays when you go get your food?

Sent from my iPhone using Forums

    There aren't trays.

    We've wondered why for years.

Lol this old dog learned that tip just 2 cruises ago, last Halloween.

The one a couple below it about putting your procured tray in the closet so room steward does not take it away while cleaning, is gold. Excellent idea!

  8. 1. On embarkation, ignore the signs that say the staterooms are closed. Just push your way in and drop off your bags in the cabin. No one will stop you.

    2. You can use the platinum line at guest services, the don’t check status.

    3. Make sure to bring cute little trinkets for your cabin attendants, they will appreciate the personal touch more than an extra cash tip.

    4. Bring magazines from home that you have already read. These are great for saving chairs around the pool, so you can sleep in.

    5. Just kidding [emoji14]

Wow, thanks Soooo much for those tips! I'll be sure to use them ALL in 68d...

    Lololol

  9. I never mentioned the p word. You always come here before a cruise? Since Apr of this year? Certainly are making a career out of this thread, aren't you?

Fake stories certainly do happen on CC and the Internet in general.

Lol, my bad for believing you to be the typical CC'er. Actually no. I've been around here for about 4 1/2yrs. I had stayed away for a few months because the hatefulness was getting to be a bit much. Even for my semi-sarcastic self... LSS, after a plethora of failed login attempts, neither of us got the password correct apparently, WE consensually agreed to start over. THAT, in and of itself is hilarious, especially here! As MANY of my fellow Carnival Cruisers seem to believe the sun rises and sets upon the loyalty level one is. Alas, we've got a few more days left to get to the Motherload of all. So my opinions don't much matter until I hit that mighty diamond. Although IMO platinum is precisely perfectly pretty for now. Ooopsie I just loyalty snobbed there, didn't I?

Life's too short to get so easily bent...

P.S. A mean snarky comment does not need to exactly have "the p word" in it to be read accurately by the masses.

This USED to be the one board I could go to and NOT see that subject...

It's suddenly (the last year plus) rampantly accosting all, from all sides, for no reason whatsoever.

    Oh well.

Life's Short, Have Fun, Cruise On!

    [emoji924]️ Cruisin Trkrs [emoji597]

  10. You could have said that in the first place. Fake reporting is not limited to Fox.

    Bwahahahaha!

    No silly, it's not.

But but but politics on a cruise board truly stink...

Ahhh there's always a "THAT Guy" on here.

    Don't be THAT Guy/Girl.

Lol I'm amping up for our next cruise in 68d. I always try to come here before leaving actual reality behind, for giggles n stitzs. Kinda gets the mood going...

    [emoji924]️ Cruisin Trkrs [emoji597]

  11. For all you people calling the OP a liar, it really does happen. Just because you have not experienced it, doesn't mean it is a made up story. Have you ever actually seen someone die on a ship? No? Then it must never happen, right?

It was a few years ago but our travel mates, elderly and in a handicapped cabin, were hit up by the room steward for money to send back home. Long story about a death and cruise line not even allowing him to contact family etc, etc, etc. We had the same steward and didn't get the sob story. We both had paid tips and treated the steward exactly the same. The other couple were on their first cruise and may have appeared more sympathetic.

A lot could depend on your demeanor. They learn to read people and are selective.

I am by no means saying it is a rampant problem but accept the fact that it does happen.

    Exactly!

Thanks for being one of the very few voices of reason on this gone haywire thread...

  12. This place is ridiculous.

I've been vague on purpose hence "dining room staff."

You know what? Just forget it...carry on with the pettiness.

Oh they will. Rest assured, ridiculous as it may be, that they'll call into question anything that dares to disagree with their core beliefs. Simply sad, but oh so predictable...

Eh, don't let it bother you.

    We don't.

A whole lotta posturing going on is all.

  13. Shake my head! That's what managers are for, it's up to a them to manage, help and if necessary weed out bad employees. A person on vacation doesn't need to go around getting people fired and having that on her conscious.
Where oh where is the "Like" and/or "Thumbs Up" button?

  14. Well, considering it's Carnival I'll bet the servers ARE desperate. Go near the service desk on the last night or last morning and see how many low-lives and trash aboard are up there to remove the gratuities from their sailing. These servers would be better off on any other line besides Carnival. I'm not a Carnival hater (booked another CCL cruise yesterday) but it's the truth and many of the passengers on Carnival aren't payinging grats no matter what .... That's probably what led to his begging.
I don't agree with the name calling of fellow humans. Alas, too many do it here. I DO agree with the entirety of your post, minus that AND your first four words of course :D ...

You make a good point about the situation... I'll never for the life of me figure out the WHY'S of the last night flock to GS to gyp hardworking people that usually give their all and then some, out of the money that they so deserve...

IF one uses the "justification" of they cannot afford it, well duh! Don't Go On A Cruise Until You CAN Afford It.

I do believe the OP and find it truly pathetic that others are trying to call him/her out as a liar for what is essentially none of their business. Nor were they also there...

Well, considering it's CC (see what I did there? :) it's par for the course. More and more so every day...

  15. I'm a new cruiser so haven't had Guy's burgers, but I've been watching a lot of YouTube videos, reading forums and Facebook groups and the overwhelming majority of people rave about them. Except for this forum, everything I've seen says people love them. This forum is the only place I've seen negative comments.

Welcome to your initiation of CC's regular Carnival bashers. Idk the *why's* of what they do. Lol, maybe they're just lonely. I DO know that on no other CC board do people go and constantly bash the other lines. Hahaha gotta love them, AND the Princess/HAL/ect loyalists that must not be realistic too often, especially since they're bashing the *motherboard* of THEIR own cruise ships of choice....

    Whew, that felt refreshing! :)

P.S. I believe that you will quite enjoy the Guy's burgers. They really are amazingly good. Same with Guy's Pig & Anchor.

There's actually not a single thing about Carnival that we do not like/love even... Except those that constantly complain. Oftentimes about nothing whatsoever...

Anyway, pay the naysayers no heed.

    We don't...

  16. Ok, here's just a sample of non-food things I consider upgrades compared to my first Carnival cruise in 1992.

    Serenity area

    Cloud 9 Spa

    More hot tubs

    More outdoor deck space

    More balcony cabins

    Sports deck activities

    Waterworks

    Your Time Dining

    Internet

    Guest Services kiosks

    Better shopping venues

    Private island port

    More comfortable beds

Personally, I like most of the changes that have been made over the years. I don't need things to stay frozen in time. That would get incredibly boring.

    THIS! We heartily agree w/you.

  17. I have been checking daily to try to book FTTF for my cruise out of Port Canaveral in February 2019. The excursions site used to say “we are still work on excursions for this port”. Now today it says “we currently do not offer excursions from this port”. Any ideas where I might find it?
That's so very strange. Lol I've been going on it multiple times daily for 2mo as our oldest daughter and sil are going also 2/9, and it's been saying what you said first. I've not been on it today so I just went and yes they have strange wording on it now. Never seen THAT before. I'd call Carnival to ask, BUT I never get the same/or correct answer on anything anymore.... Oh well guess we'll both keep trying to get it.

  18. What is a Wall of fun?
We've made a wall in our downstairs den into "Our WOF". No one usually is in there except for us, our kids, grands, & some fun loving friends. So, it's basically covered with silly stuff/photographs that make us chuckle with fond Cruisin remembrances. My Hubs and I always go to character gatherings & breakfasts onboard, whether alone or Cruisin with the kids and/or grands, to get our pics with whichever one(s) it may be. We take advantage of the getting on/off ship photo ops also. At many ports the native(at times) costumes people wear are very interesting and colorful so we add those to our collection. Same with our kids/grands. Although they all seem to prefer the ones of us two oldie-but-goodies playing around.

  19. You point out exactly the point I was making! Stuffy people who think they are better than everyone else. All kinds of people go on every different cruise line. That is some of the problem I have with this board. Fortunately, I have met wonderful people at meet and greets who are members of this board. I have been cruising on Carnival since I was 20 years old. I am not 55+ but I see people of all ages. They are having fun. It gets irritating the things people say about Carnival.

Exactly indeed! I'm sick AND tired of the *Carnival is not as good as anything else, especially not as good as the ship I'M going on* mentality that oftentimes prevails on CC. Lol, hence my disappearing for many months at a time. Although, as a side note, at my advanced age it's led to the forgetting of my login info and having to start anew a few times...

We started as a family on CCL, we stayed into our elder years because we love it! The few forrays into other lines did not seem like a good fit for us. THE most ludicrous statement that got me was the *budget* label. 2 last year. 3 already booked for this year. ALL balconies (because I'm a big baby that has to be able to see the horizon to not get sometimes woozy) as have EVERY single cruisin adventure we've been on.

Whew, I can feel the ole BP rising...

Think I'll go look at our Carnival Cruise Lines Wall of Fun for a bit ;)
